  1. Punching, with either a Rage Bug or Sweet Beaver. Speed Worm when it’s tough and when it’s not Mike
  2. Excellent video for one of the most unappreciated baits. The tip about not using the rod tip to impart action is a good one that a lot of us old guys use. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the younger guys on here were surprised to hear about it. Another great way to use a Slug-go is as a trailer on a chatterbait. Mike
  3. If you can “quickly, repeatedly and reliability” tie any knot, I don’t see any reason to try something else. Mike
  4. There is no industry standard. Every manufacturer labels their product according to their own standards. Lure rating of each rod is the only guidance you’ll get. Mike
  5. Upsize your hook Mike
  6. Great Job!! Mike
  7. It will be easier to walk If you make one leg shorter than the other. Mike
  8. I HATE mono, won’t touch it, but in my opinion if you have to stretch out a fishing line to make it work, all you’re doing is compromising its properties which I assume is the reason you bought it in the first place. The “mono guys” will be along shortly. Mike
  9. I used the so called “Shaw Grisby” knot” (google it) a few times and like that one also. Easy, fast and it holds. Being a knot that is put through the eye twice, I considered using it in heavy cover. Once my back heals enough to get out I’m gonna give it more play. Mike
  10. Ditto Mike
  11. I don’t use leaders or spinning gear..ever Except for 2 presentations, I use flouro for everything (14# to 20#) and have for years. Use a quality product and a lot of the problems and negative attitudes you’re about to hear will go away. I also use KVD line and lure when filling and a quick spray once in a while and I’m good. Mike
  12. San Diego Jam is the only one I use with flouro. Mike
  13. I’m always checking my line, hooks and knot without fail. I learned the hard way. Mike
  14. Congratulations! All the hard work paid off Mike
  15. Good point! The average fisherman is programmed to look for that likely spot where they think a fish should be and no other thought comes into their head. Point is actually looking for a fish swimming or bedding is secondary. Blind casting and junk fishing seems to always be the norm Mike
  16. Great Job! Mike

The first thing I always do is throw a t rig at the base of the tree a foot or 2 off the bank. Then start on the outside working my way in hitting as many limbs that are exposed as I can. One thing, the shallower the water the longer I’ll stay and really pick it apart. The deeper it is I’ll move on sooner. Mike
  18. The only tools I keep in my bag are... Needle nose pliers Braid cutter Small scissor’s Philips and flat screw drivers Mike
  19. Good idea! But too much paper work for an old guy Over the years I know what I like and what works in my waters and those are the one I stay with. No need to rotate through the dozens of bags of plastics I’ve accumulated just to see if it works also. If I fish in unfamiliar water or take the kids out, I’ll grab a bag or 2 and try them out then. But most I just gave away. Mike
  20. Absolutely get an 8 or high 7 reel. As far as model every manufacturer has one. I can only recommend what I use which is a Curado K. Mike
  21. Enjoy your busy day, clear your mind and keep the faith. Mike
  22. Ditto! Mike
