  1. I about bounced a LTB/Tatula SV combo off the front deck while we were running Saturday. I managed to strap all my rods down but that one somehow. Thankfully I noticed it moving a little bit before we hit any big waves. I watched my BIL lose a 50E/Avid at Grand Lake over 100' of water and just keep running, looked at me and shrugged. I lost a pair of 580G Costas the same trip. We won the tournament and still lost money ?
  2. I agree that you just need the right kayak. I jumped in and bought the first one I found a good deal on. The price was excellent ($450 for a normally $1,300 kayak that had only been used a handful of times), but I didn't like fishing out of it. It was a paddle kayak that got shoved around in any wind, wasn't stable enough to stand, and it had a horrible storage configuration that didn't hold much, but managed to consume a lot of space. I sold that kayak when everyone was scrambling to buy them last year for $300 more than I paid and bought my current kayak, an Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL. The difference is night and day. Being able to peddle and fish at the same time was a game changer for me. I can actually stand and fish without any issues. Wind is not a deal breaker anymore. I have storage for a ton of gear, and the seat is comfortable enough for me to fish all day. My boat doesn't move much anymore because I'd rather take my kayak since I fish by myself a majority of the time and I'd sell my johnboat if my boys didn't enjoy taking it out the creeks so much.
  3. I really like them. Price is a little steep but you are getting premium blades with them, so that's a good portion of the cost.
  4. It's a very amatuerish looking paint job. I'd guess it was a blank someone painted. I'd bet you could get something like a Bandit 200 or Strike King model 3 in a perch pattern and find very similar, if not better results.
  5. Rage bug and Menace Havoc Pitboss Big Bite Baits Yomoma RI Sweet Beaver Culprit Incredibug Zman Boar Hogz Strike King Rodent
  6. Havoc Pitboss or Rage Menace rigged vertically are my favorites. The Zman Goat is a new player that is similar to the Menace and has been working well also and more durable.
  7. I can't take them off my Provokes fast enough when I open the box. An EWG hook on a jerkbait is a horrible pairing IMO. They'll hook them when they're really eating them, but not when they're just swatting at the bait.
  8. I fish T-rigged plastics a lot. If I miss a fish, I'll pitch back. Quick tap bites and drops are a pretty sure sign of a bedding fish.
  9. Caught 12 on a Strike King Ocho last week just hooked through the middle with no special bands or keepers. Still have the bait at home ready to catch more fish ? Since I switched to the Eagle Claw Neko hooks I've been using, I go through way fewer sticks on a wacky rig.
  10. My wife likes to go. My mom use to go often and still enjoys going occasionally. My oldest niece almost begs me to take her anytime I'm around. I'd guess the "Hunter/gatherer", gene is a little more ingrained in men so the urge to fish is stronger.
  11. Catfish are predators first. That's why their eyes are positions up and forward on their head. Crawdads are quite predatory as well at times. I use to keep quite a few craws for bait and the biggest issue was keeping them from eating each other. Dropping live worms into the tank reminded me of a scene from Jurassic Park.
  12. Absolutely none. Zebra mussel covered rocks are the biggest bait stealers here.
  13. I own 2 or 3 Pop Max. I doubt I've caught 10 fish total on all of them despite repeated efforts. I've got a Zell pop with more scratches than paint left, best popper I've ever fished. I thought I lost it once and even offered a reward to anyone that found it and returned it to me ?
  14. My best one has been a shrimp imitation intended for inshore saltwater fish. Looks kind of like a Fur Face bonefish shrimp fly. Pretty small but it has a stout hook that's held up to some really nice bass and even a few sturdy channel cats.
  15. Man, I start to lose it if I go 2 weeks.
  16. My PB (10lb 2oz), was caught in Mexico and extremely skinny. Followed my T rigged 8" lizard back to the boat and ate it when I free spooled my reel. Set the hook, she kind of half-heartedly wallowed on the surface and my guide netted her. Whole fight lasted less than 5 seconds. Caught an 8.5 the same trip that I didn't think would ever quit fighting.
  17. I wish they used those instead of poison in our lakes. Completely ruined a couple lakes and the ones that aren't dead have such bad algae blooms that they're almost unfishable during a lot of the year.
  18. I do occasionally for bass, but usually when I'm using natural bait, it's for big uglies.
  19. David Dudley, unfollowed his channel for that ridiculous video. I'll listen to a person's argument on a subject, until they start just making up numbers and pulling them out of the air, then I'm out. I fish that rig so much and it's so rare to gut hook a fish, I couldn't even tell that last time I deep hooked a fish. It isn't just because of my gear or experience either. My wife and oldest son fish the Ned rig almost exclusively when they fish with me and rarely deep hook a fish either. It's such a popular way to fish around here, that if fish were being killed by a Ned rig at the rate he was pulling out of the air, there would be no fish left to catch. The irony of the whole thing, not a rig out there that gut hooks more fish than a wacky rigged stick worm, one of Dudley's favorite rigs to fish.
  20. They're LMB. The tooth patch is not a 100% sure way to ID them either so don't use that as a surefire way to tell what they are either.
  21. I won 2 kayak tournaments so far this year primarily on a Ned rig fishing that way in areas that it would be a goner if I tried to fish it as a bottom contact bait. I had second big bass on it in both too so the whole little this thing I think is like any other lure, fish it where they live and you'll get big ones, but you put it in front of dinks and you'll get them too. Nothing wrong with using ball heads. Ned used the VMC Moon eye jigheads for awhile (asprin heads). I use the mushroom heads because I like the wire keeper and I have a couple of the molds to make my own for about $.10 a jighead.
  22. Got the "W" in my second kayak tournament of the year at Melvern Saturday out of 35 anglers. Been on a solid dink bite from the bank at Gardner. Stop by after work each morning since it's about 1 minute away for 30-45 minutes of spot hopping. Usually get 1-4 a morning, using a Black Dog Baits Shellcracker. All dinks, but still fun. Took the kayak to Olathe after work Tuesday morning. They were chewing a bladed jig really good, but I wanted to fish a big bait so I sacrificed numbers in favor of big bites and caught neither, until I picked up the bladed jig again the last 30 minutes.
  23. Okay, some people like trolling and others don't, cool. LOCKDOWN!!
  24. They had a these for I think 1.47 at BPS last year in their spring sale. I bought about 30 of them. They're a great cold water largemouth bait as well as a good walleye crank.
