Poppers
Very little pressure is put on it compared to braid on a flipping/jig setup so the dig doesn't happen.

Do bass feed with catfish?
Yes, I catch catfish and bass off the same areas on the same lures all the time.

Shocked by ned rig success?
A Ned rig is not a bottom contact bait in my opinion. It might occasionally touch bottom, but not intentionally. It's constantly moving and not picking up anything from the bottom or hanging up. I learned to fish it from one of Ned's friends that helped develop the Midwest Finesse concept.

New Record In The Gulf
That's a big tuna, but part of that story makes no sense? Catching fish like this in Texas is harder than it looks. Anglers are prevented by federal laws from intentionally catching this type of fish in the Gulf. However, a fisherman can pay for a special permit that allows them to catch a Bluefin tuna larger than 73 inches, provided that was caught unintentionally.

Possible World Record Caught
I'd love to catch a 2+lb sunfish/bluegill. I couldn't imagine catching one like that.

Poppers
That's a risk you take with braid in general though. I've had Ned rig hooks go through my braid, just used the pliers to smash the barb down and it comes right back out. I've fished straight braid with almost all my treble hooked topwater baits for several years now and the tangling is just a nonissue. The pros to it so far outweigh the cons for me, there's zero reason to tie a leader to maybe avoid one or two tangles a trip. Tying a leader is a guaranteed hassle trying to avoid a potential hassle, plus it's adding a weak spot to my connection to the bait via the leader knot and knot on the bait since the leader is surely lighter than the braid. One of those solutions that creates more problems than it fixes.

Opinions on these baits.
It's a Live Target, that's all they sell. They've got a couple good baits, but most catch fisherman and very few fish. I've caught fish with the Prank, but it's better to either fish a popper or a wake bait IMO. I can't get on the Biffle Bug hype train. I had some and they just did not produce for me, and I love creature baits.

First day ever looking for smallmouth . What did i do wrong
Not true at all. If deep fish were oblivious to all that and so much easier to catch, everyone would be a deep water fisherman.

The Widowmakers
I've always called those Lone Ranger stumps that sit just at or worse just below water level in otherwise open water areas widowmakers. Guys might run an area 99 times but that 100th time they line that stump up that they've never seen before because it's lurking just out of sight below the surface.

Post a photo a day!
My wife was planting the garden today and had to move all the boxes she had covering the area to keep the weeds from growing. From the story there was approximately 1,000 skinks under the boxes, give or take a few hundred. My wife is terrified of snakes and anything closely related so she was not at all happy about this finding. I told her they're just happy little bug hunters taking advantage of the bug hunting nirvana she'd provided them. Not convinced by my stories, I gathered my youngest and we set out on a quest to wrangle the beast. We only found 2, but had a 100% catch rate. Finn was heartbroken he couldn't keep them for pets.

Done created a monster
I took my wife and kids catfishing for the first time this past weekend. I had a blast putting them all on fish but I think they might have had more fun than I did fighting the fish. It helped that the boys got to roam around the shore and do boy things and my wife got to kick back in the lounge chair I lugged down the shore for her.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Buy her one of her own. My wife has a St. Croix Avid Pearl/Quantum Energy PT combo I bought her that cost more than a lot of mine. She likes it though and it lets her fish without the constant tangles and issues of a cheaper combo, meaning I spend more time fishing instead of fixing her rod and reel and she doesn't get frustrated and want to go home sooner. It was a worthy investment.

Is a carp a carp?
Could be plain common carp, could be grass carp, or if you have them, buffalo will get up on the surface or in the shallows where they can be seen and also grow very large. Carp are minnows, buffalo are in the sucker family. All can be caught on rod and reel, but how you go after each will be different.

Does BFS makes a finesse spinning setup obsolete?
Even after trying BFS, it just feels so much like a novelty thing whereas spinning gear feels more practical.

Cheap spinning rod for shad raps and inline spinners
If you can find one in that price range, the Falcon Bucoo SR 7' M/M spinning rod is perfect for those baits. I bought one just for shad raps and 1.0 squarebills and couldn't be happier.

Ned rig vs drop shot question
No, it would not be the same thing or really even close in the capacity that Ned is talking about. Fishing a Ned rig like he's talking about, you're covering a ton of water but also methodically picking it apart. A drop shot is more of a target presentation and does not have the action when lifting and moving the sinker along. The drop shot does not have the slow descent that the Ned rig has with the light jighead either. A lot of days, a majority of bites will happen on the initial fall.

Savage Gear Line thru trout
What size, model, and sink rate?

Poppers
I use straight braid with poppers and tie direct. The line getting tangled in the hooks is never an issue. If it's so windy that it's blowing your bait around, a popper isn't a good option anyways imo.

Craw plastic bait only, no jig
Crock-O-Gator ring craw on a 1/8oz slider head is deadly early spring when the small craws are hatching here.
