  1. The metal hangers have tiny screws that are easy to remove to add split rings or just a replacement hook if you want. Both the Rattling and One Knocker spooks have regular hook hangers on them if you're not against a rattling bait. I've done better with the One Knocker than the original personally.
  2. Welcome!
  3. Same thing I use during the daytime, 6' 9" H/F Hammer Micro/Tatula SV TWS 6.3:1/PLine CXX 15lb.
  4. There's a handful of truly evil people in this world. I've met my share at work that want nothing more than to cause pain to others in any way they can. Being how fishing tends to lead us off the beaten path and trying to avoid crowds, it makes us potential targets for those people. We had a guy that was bank fishing at a remote state lake here a couple years ago that had another guy come up talking fishing with. The guy suddenly attacked him and attempted to drown him, only thing that stopped him was the guy that was fishing found a stick on the bottom and hit the guy with it. I've night fished the same lake by myself more than once. They never have caught the guy that did it either. Saying it never happens makes people feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but then it does happen and it always will. Better to be prepared and it never happen than pretend and hope it won't happen when it does.
  5. Squarebills tend to deflect off cover better and have a short bill typically. So they shine for fishing around shallow cover.
  6. Man, @ww2farmer reminded me of those awful Trokar hooks. Don't know that I've ever seen a more highly touted product that was so terribad as those hooks. They're sharp, for a minute, until they hit something and then they're dull. While they're sharp they're slicing up your baits and cutting big holes in the fish's mouth making it easier for them to toss the bait. Even on sale, not interested.
  7. I had a couple of the older Mettles and they were fine reels for the money (I got them on clearance for around $25). Hasn't been many Academy brand fishing items that I've been disappointed with.
  8. I use the same rod as my regular frogging rod. However I did find while I was in my kayak a couple weeks ago that if you happen to break your frog rod, a M/F Lightning Rod Shock spinning rod with 20lb braid will work in a pinch with the JR.
  9. 1/0 Owner covershot, green pumpkin Zoom shakyhead worm, 1/8oz homemade cylinder dropshot weight.
  10. They stunk it up for me, but just like everyone on this thread it seems can't catch fish on a bladed jig or plopper, 2 of my most productive baits, if you don't have confidence in it then it probably isn't going to work.
  11. Nailed it. If it's thick stuff, the cupped, popping face catches too much stuff, so the regular frog is the better option. If it's sparse, the extra popping action seems to get me more bites and allows the bait to sit in place even more than a regular frog while walking.
  12. I went this morning after work for 2 hours and caught 11 from the bank. 2 on a Toadrunner Jr, 2 on a weightless T rigged General, 1 on a blue homemade bladed jig, the rest on a T-rigged 7" black and blue YUM ribbontail worm. Just junk fishing and taking them where I can get them, especially from the bank.
  13. Only way to figure out is put in the time. The closest reservoir to me, Hillsdale, is pretty much hated my most bass anglers. Just today had a guy asking about fishing it for bass, I was giving some info and someone else chimed in they'd go pretty much anywhere else before they'd go there. I've won several weeknight tournaments there and caught fish close to 6 pounds. It just isn't an easy lake so guys go once and get frustrated and never go back. Of course it can't be their fault they didn't catch anything, must be that the lake sucks.
  14. Those prices listed are mostly the very top or close to the top of the line products too though. I own all those items and didn't spend nearly that much on any of them.
  15. They look good, good enough I bought a few bulk packs before ever fishing them, but all the bombs they sent me were duds. I fish the SK Rodent and Big Bite Baits YoMomma a lot as well as the YUM Bad Momma and Woolly Bully. A jig is my favorite thing to fish so yes I fish them a lot.
  16. Underspins work great in clear water. Had a lot of luck with them at Table Rock. I use the keel weighted hooks more around cover where I need to protect my hook.
  17. I fish the 90 a ton, with straight braid and no swivel. It isn't necessary. Maybe how some like to fish it, but it's just added weight dragging down the nose of a bait that needs to be pointed up.
  18. The current WW isn't that great IMO. The 6th Sense bait isn't very much like a WW style bait either, again IMO. Luck-E-Strike G5 is the best WW imitation bait I've found and offered in some ugly colors just like the old warts. I still have a good selection of old warts in case I ever get back into tournaments, but the Luck-E-Strikes and KO WW blanks get me through pretty well otherwise.
  19. If you're really set on getting 4 of those 5, I'd drop the "I Know It". Monkey butt is second to only bone in productivity for me. Perch is obvious given your location, and you need a dark color so there's Loon. That leaves I know it out of the mix.
  20. Missile D-Bomb and Gene Larew Biffle Bug. I could count on both hands the number of fish I've caught on those baits combined. Got rid of all of them and haven't missed them one bit.
  21. Congrats! Bass are a different species altogether once they hit that 5lb mark it seems.
  22. Underspin or swimbait on a jighead slow rolled is a good substitute without all the resistance.
  23. I cast them at docks, under overhanding trees, rip rap, idk, I hear about them being bad casting all the time but other than an occasional errant cast usually caused by the constant howling winds here, it's not been an issue.
  24. You mean like the power wheels things they actually sit in and drive? We got our boys a UTV type one that was on sale during black Friday for around $200.
  25. Dad set the new record for my boat for walleye Thursday on a jigging spoon in 25' of water. CPR'd
