  1. Going to be a lot of variables and no real way to guess because one fish will be thicker or taller than another. It says it holds 42 12oz cans. I don't know how many fish you're planning on keeping, but I wouldn't want to clean more panfish than I could put in that kind of area. I would think you could fit 2 dozen yellow perch pretty easily in something with those dimensions.
  2. If he floated up after being released, likely didn't survive. Most bass that size don't anyways though.
  3. My 8' swimbait rod rides shotgun in my truck real easy. There's always a couple rods in there.
  4. You had my attention. My oldest asked my how many lures I had while we were fishing the other day. I told him I had no idea, he asked if I had 1,000. I told him we'll just go with that. I honestly have no idea, no desire to know, it would take me a few days just to find all of them that I have squirreled away.
  5. Here in Kansas, we have what they call "walk in fishing ponds". Basically, property owners can rent out their ponds to the state to allow the public to fish them. In exchange, they're paid and the state manages the ponds for them. I went to one I'd tried once before. It wasn't good then, it wasn't good this time either. Last time there were some horses that were pretty snotty acting in the field too. I've been around horses my whole life, not a fan, so I was watching them pretty close the whole time. I'm guessing my focus on the horses somehow let this crazy thing sneak up on me. I don't know what in the world someone has a dang zebra for, in a field, in Kansas, but it was not appreciated by me at all. I've been stared down a time or two by some drunks on the wrong side of a jail cell, never had anyone in stripes stare at me like this guy did. The fact he was between me and the stairs to get over the fence to my truck wasn't comforting either. Just made my way steadily, and carefully until I was sure I could make the fence, then it was a sprint. Stripy boy never flinched, just mean mugged me the whole time. Probably the friendliest animal in the field, had no interest in finding out.
  6. Had a pretty good mixed bag this weekend, including a couple crappie, some trout, a drum, a wiper, and a channel cat. Only took pictures of a couple of them. Channel hammered a jerkbait on the pause in a pond under a willow tree and really had my hopes up for a few seconds. Wiper swallowed a little cleo I was tossing for trout.
  7. The river pond below Tuttle is a good kayak spot too. Lots of catfish there plus some white bass and saugeyes.
  8. Tried to fish Lake Shawnee Thursday, man what a disappointment. The lake had about a foot of visibility and was really cold still. Warmest I saw that wasn't in a foot of water in the back of a cove was 43. South end by the south ramp was barely 40. Struggled to catch about a dozen bass, most of those were on a cleo fishing for trout, a few trout, a drum, and a small wiper. Going to give it a couple weeks before I try it again. The wiper was really the only sort of bright spot. Caught it on a cleo on my ultralight and 4lb test, so it was a fun fight. You can see how nasty, greenish-brown the water was from the algae bloom that was going on.
  9. 6' 10" All-Star spinnerbait rod. It's without a reel right now but probably going to be the new KK Speed Demon if the Corona virus doesn't eat my reel before they ship it. I use 17lb Pline CXX.
  10. I flip braid into wood and catch fish, but I use light weights. Light weights reduce friction so there's less noise and vibration. Still catch plenty of fish and I don't have to switch back and forth between a rod with braid and rod with flouro on lakes with lots of wood and weeds.
  11. I use a St. Croix LTB 6' 10" ML/XF for those baits. It does an excellent job at it too.
  12. I'd rather throw a new trailer away than throw a whole jig away.
  13. The no longer made Xcalibur XRK50 in Tilapia was the best one I'd found. Bass here smoked that sucker. Lots of them on the bay still.
  14. Pegged T-rig, usually a Pit Boss with 4/0 straight shank and a 1/2oz tungsten, 7' 11" Okuma TCS "Matt Daddy", Okuma Cerros 7.3:1, and 50lb Seaguar Flippin braid.
  15. Not going to find a better squarebill for $3 each. I bet they sell out really fast.
  16. Midwest finesse style heads work great. I use the ones I pour in 1/8oz or 3/32oz.
  17. Finally got to change it up a little and do a day of cold water fishing Thursday. Had plans to fish one of the trout lakes, it was an absolute bust. There was a terrible algae bloom and visibility was about foot and the water was surprisingly cold still. I stayed way longer than I should have to catch a dozen small bass, a few trout, a drum, and a wiper. Got back to the lake by my house around noon, I should have stayed by the house. 30 minutes of fishing I had a 15.5lb limit. Texted my wife and she wanted to come out with my youngest son since it was fairly nice out. Finn hasn't gotten the exposure to fishing that Lake had by the time he was 3, so I've got some making up to do. He did good cranking them in despite the howling winds though. He's still not willing to hold them, but I did get him to start touching the fish and he thought that was pretty funny, so it's a start. Ended the day with 4.5 hours on the lake and nearly 19 pounds on a 6th Sense Provoke and War Eagle finesse spinnerbait.
  18. Every time it's happened, I've been at fault. My dad did drag a deep diving crankbait across the top of my head on the back cast. Blew out the top of my hat, ripped 3 streaks through my scalp from the back of my head to the front of my head, but the hooks ripped completely through so other than it burned like my head was on fire and I had a terrible headache, at least I wasn't still hooked.
  19. Doesn't Dodge have a truck with rod storage in the sides of the truck bed?
  20. Welcome!
  21. Fish where they live. Sounds stupid, but your chances go way up fishing where more big fish live.
  22. Don't like them, don't buy them, pretty simple. I'm curious if it will effect their pricing overall.
  23. I saw a guy try to duck and get one in the throat and one in the top of the head, didn't look fun. I sprayed a naked guy once. By the sounds of the screams, especially as it ran south, it was painful. I'd rather be tased again 100 times than sprayed once more, that stuff is terrible.
