  1. That's frozen steam. It was cold enough the 48 degree water had tons of steam coming off of it. When it's single digits it doesn't take much to create steam. There was icicles hanging off every bank and overhanging limb from the waves too. It only made it to 25 for a high this day. It can't be nice weather around here if I'm fishing during the winter. The fishing is never good and all the guys with cabin fever come out in droves if it gets above 50 in the winter.
  2. That front already came through here this morning. 52 degrees out still when I got to work at midnight, about 5am it started dropping fast and was in the 20's and sleeting when I left at 8am. It didn't amount to much here, just a pain driving home because it was freezing my wipers up and couldn't see great. Of course everyone was acting like the end was coming.
  3. I've used Seaguar Finesse Fluorocarbon for leader a little and it's worked well. I mainly use copolymer for leader though.
  4. White with silver Colorado blades-clear water and sunny White with gold or white painted Colorado blades-clear and cloudy White with copper and/or chartreuse and orange painted Coloradoa blades-stained to muddy water
  5. Well he did say that "most" were jerkbaits like that, but it was more in reference to how bass can certainly be caught on muskie baits. Not knowing the OP's background or level of knowledge, a lot of original swimbaits that started the big swimbait craze, as you're very well aware of I'm sure, were baits intended for big muskie, stripers, and saltwater fish. While not jerkbaits, individual definitions of what a jerkbait is vary wildly and I could certainly see someone thinking a big muskie glide bait or something like an AC Plug was a jerkbait.
  6. Bullhead make excellent live bait for flathead catfish where it's legal. We've used them up to about 1.5lbs for live bait on limblines. It only takes about a 10lb flathead to eat a bullhead that size.
  7. Yes, but get there early because it fills up fast on the weekend. I've caught 1 largemouth at the outlet the last 3 trips but it was almost 6 pounds.
  8. A musky jitterbug has somewhat of a cult following by big bass hunters. I've caught bass on musky choppers and bucktails. You could fish them or sell them. If you're wanting to target bass, I'd probably sell them and buy bass swimbaits instead of musky baits.
  9. I have 3 Presidents, a President XT, a Supreme, and several Supreme XTs. They're very nice reels that don't get much attention for whatever reason. Pflueger and Okuma are the main baitcasting reels in my lineup other than old Shimanos.
  10. They don't list the Supreme XT on their website, just the President XT and Patriarch. I doubt they carry them if they don't list them on their website.
  11. I use a 6' 10" MH/F Ethos for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. They're on sale at Academy right now.
  12. If I could only have 1 topwater color, it would be bone.
  13. Trade you our QB for your first round pick? Current QB, not next year's. Even settle for a second round.
  14. Not really, because if a lake has red colored craws in it, they will look black at depth too just like a red bait will.
  15. The frogging rod I use is a 7' 3" H/F Ethos Micro from Academy. I've also used it for pitching and it worked pretty well. I got 2 of them for $27 each but they're $80 every day. One of the rods I use for pitching a lot is a 7' 3" H/F Okuma TCS that's also labeled as a frog rod and I have no doubt it would work for it. You can get them around $100 pretty easily if you look a little bit.
  16. It's fun getting to repost this every year the first week or two of January.
  17. You know it's a big one when all you can think is "take the bleeping picture already!"
  18. La Cygne was good again Monday/Tuesday. Had a short trip Monday that only produced 2 fish, but there were 5.92 and 3.88 pounds. Tuesday was a better numbers day, with several in the 3lb range, and one over 5.
  19. I use a 300E Curado and an Okuma Citrix (as well as a 400B Calcutta), for my swimbaits. Both are nice reels for flinging big baits. The Citrix has a higher line capacity and better casting distance, so I use it for bigger baits, with the 300E for the 2-3.5 ounce baits. They both work great.
  20. PP of those two, but KastKing Super Braid reminds me of PP and handles nicer, and it's about half the price of even original PP.
  21. Tatsu is #1 for me. I wish they made the Flipping Fluoro in something lighter than 20lb but I do use it on a couple rods too. Gamma Edge is really nice line and super strong too.
  22. I can't even think of 11 different types of worms? I pretty much stick to straight tail or swimming tail worms and a handful of colors.
