  1. They'll be fine for what you're wanting to use them for. Wouldn't want them for anything you want a high line capacity for, like deep cranking or swimbaits, or a bait you want to fish with a slower retrieve. Other than that, you're good to go.
  2. Agree on this as well. I like to hear the sounds that the angler is hearing, or what they're saying (I know I like to talk out loud, even if I'm by myself sometimes). There's some comedy gold that would be lost off the videos I've got if I put music over them.
  3. We slowed down a bit later in the year. We have a very talented group of fishermen, so we didn't expect to keep that pace up. Averaged 8-12 boats though, so it was a pretty small group which really increases your odds of winning.
  4. Yes, it's referring to a C rig.
  5. Keep the line tight and try to pull back against the fish, not with them. Do everything right, I can guarantee you 100%, you're still going to lose fish.
  6. I have different reel speeds for different baits, but I really prefer the faster speeds if I can get away with them since it's easier for me to speed up than it is to slow down. I have reels down to a 4.9:1 (deep cranking), up to an 8.2:1 on my finesse jig rod and 8.1 on my frog rod. That doesn't mean you can't use slower reels if they work for you. I had an old 3.8:1 Lew's (it was even touted as being high speed on the side of the reel). I caught a lot of fish on a T rig with that reel. I can also remember cranking like a mad man and still having a huge bow in my line when a fish decided to swim straight at me. If it works for you and you're happy with the results, roll with it.
  7. I don't know anything about the ones in Missouri but if you're going to fish the ones in KS (Mined Wildlife Area), you can send me a PM and I might be able to help you a little bit. Also, if you haven't gone to the KDWPT office off 83rd and K7 and got yourself an area map, I'd highly suggest it.
  8. Don't give up hope. I have a lake like that close to me that rarely produces a fish over 15" and annually produces 0 fish over 20" even in the states shocking samples, but they're still in there.
  9. Some people will do anything to try to get their 15 minutes.
  10. Send those guys our way if they want to chase some more invasives. I'm doing what I can, but I'm only one man.
  11. I've had good success with the Diesel MinnowZ on a 1/4oz jighead or on the back of a bladed jig. Last year, I used the same Diesel Minnow on the back of a bladed jig for almost the entire year, caught well over 100 fish on it, before I had to retire it. They have a more subtle action than the Kietechs, but are still a very good bait. The MinnowZ are a good option if you want something a little smaller.
  12. My season last year consisted of our little Thursday night tournaments, which for me the first cycle through went; first, first, second, fourth, first, skipped, first, first, so fairly often
  13. Someone not from the KC area finally took me up on my invitation to come fish, and what a day to do it! Kickerfish1 and his friend joined me for a day chasing smallmouth. We had wind, rain, snow, and sleet, but we caught over 50 fish with several pretty nice ones in the mix. You can see the snow in the last picture of kickerfish1 with his nice smallmouth. Believe it or not, it snowed a lot harder than that for quite awhile.
  14. I don't like the hat or chest mounted camera shots very much. The added noise from every movement, along with the additional movement, bothers me.
  15. Me too, and my kayak bassing skills. Biggest one I've caught out of my yak is maybe 2 pounds. Heck, biggest one this year is only 4 something.
  16. Had a short run to Olathe after my unwanted OT that ran into my weekend a until noon. Water was clearer than I expected and ranged from 53 at the dam to 56 in the pond. Caught fish everywhere in between but never in big numbers. The average size was pretty good though with my largest flirting with touching the 18" mark on a finesse jig. Didn't bother saving much of the video but put together a couple clips for anyone thinking of going out there. I fished Melvern with kickerfish1 and his friend from Omaha Friday. Windy, rain, driving snow, sleet, and the fish just kept on biting. We caught them on most everything as long as we were fishing a white jerkbait. I did catch a couple on a Luck E Strike G5 and the Ned and I believe there was a fish caught on a Keitech as well as a few on a Fluke. All 3 species of bass made the boat with 2 Bass Slams caught. The number of nice spots was the biggest shocker. My biggest was 17" and we had 6 or 7 over 15" and super fat. The marina was good and so was Eisenhower. The further down the lake we went the colder and muddier it got. We had 50 in the marina, 49 at the ramp, 47 down by Turkey with a couple feet of visibility. Worked through a lot of adversity, and those guys stuck it out longer than I thought they would in that junk, and we were rewarded with over 50 fish on the day. Very good chance I'll be back there Friday. That smallmouth jerkbait bite is a drug and I'm addicted. Several big whites and one tank of a sauger off the ramp right before we left too. You can really see how hard it snowed in the picture of kickerfish1 with his smallmouth.
  17. I'm liking mine. I have the Curado 70XG I put on my finesse jig rod and caught several with it so far and it's done very well. Haven't had any issues setting mine but maybe I just tied on the right jig weight for what it's set at already.
  18. It's all black EVA. I really like mine so far. The 2-3 ounce baits are where it really seems to shine. I've thrown a few baits like an A rig, 5" Savage Gear 3D Bluegill, 6" Punker, and 7" Duel and it handled them all very well. I was really starting to think I was about to the big bait season, and then the snow came...

  20. It's a warmouth, Green sunfish are very similar, but tend to have more blue on the gill plates and sides, the fins are typically orange if they have any colors, and of the untold numbers of green sunfish I've caught, I've never seen one with color on it's dorsal while the warmouths I've caught have it quite frequently.
  21. I'd say turn them all in at the end of the week to avoid having to keep track of what 2 days everyone is fishing. It's just for fun and if anyone has a big enough ego they need to fib to win a just for fun tournament, I feel sorry for them.
  22. Yes that will work and that is an awesome topwater rod for poppers and smaller walking baits. I like mine for jerkbaits also.
  23. Caught several of them Friday. They're not my favorite but they can sure save a day when the bass aren't cooperating.
  24. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be modified. If it does it would be a very tiny amount. Pretty sure I have a couple of the keepers that I could check if they fit in my mold.
  25. I don't feel like Gliss would be a good option for casting gear from my experience with it. Or maybe I should say I think you'll negate the benefits of a line like Gliss with casting gear.
