  1. I've been using 20lb Kanzen on a spinning rod to fish grubs and Keitechs for over a year now and have had zero problems.
  2. I have 8 or 9 Ethos rods, you can't beat them for the money.
  3. They don't keep them in MLF, they weigh any bass over 12" regardless if it's a legal fish to keep or not, then it's released on the spot. In stressful situations, people resort to something familiar or comfortable. Almost all of us learned to fish for bass in the shallows, beating the banks. It's easy to say that I would have targeted the deep smallmouth and feel I would have found them and and caught enough quality fish to make the cut, but when that clock is ticking away and I'm not getting bites, I'd be up there looking for those bankrunners with everyone else because at least I would feel like I knew what I was doing.
  4. I think part of the allure of exotic species is the exotic locales. If I could caught a peacock bass in the local lake and piraiba in the Kansas River, it would lose some of it's excitement for me.
  5. What little snow we had melted yesterday when it got up to almost 50 Looks like we might have open water by the end of this week and for sure next week if the forecast holds.
  6. Biggest lake I fish regularly is only 7,000 acres and you can catch fish about anywhere in the lake. Fishing small lakes, combined with the Optimax Pro XS getting pretty good gas mileage and the fact that I just get on plane and cruise about 40 instead of pegging it, I only fill up once ever month or two even with fishing a few times every week during the warmer months.
  7. Most of one side of my garage and part of the back wall are covered with pegboards with extra baits waiting for their turn. Problem is, I sometimes forget what I have and buy more when they go on sale, so I end up with extras for my extras.
  8. A Stradic, Stradic CI4, Supreme XT, or Patriarch Mag would be my picks in that price range. I've owned one newer Abu spinning reel (Orra), and it was awful.
  9. I have an 80lb Maxxum on my boat and fish in heavy discharge current without any issue. I use to have a 70lb Maxxum on my Lowe that was similar in size to your boat and it performed well in the same situation. Only thing I would say, spend the extra money on variable speed. I've had one 5 speed 70lb Maxxum, never again. In the current, 4 was too slow and 5 was too fast.
  10. When I have the chance to go fishing, I go, that's how I address the different moon phases and pressure systems. Only thing I've ever noticed, I hate fishing about 2 days before to two days after the full moon, almost always stinks for me. The only exception to that rule is, I seem to manage to catch a big fish or two if I grind it out. I hate night fishing with a full moon, almost always slow for me.
  11. Not the Bill Lewis but I use to fish a 1oz Super Spot a lot and did well with it. I still fish a 3/4oz RES or XR75 occasionally, but mostly stick to the 1/2 or 5/8oz baits.
  12. Welcome!
  13. I have a spinning setup just for fishing light cranks like the SK 1.0 and #5 shad raps.
  14. Fishing ponds right after ice out, a suspending jerkbait is about the only thing I fish. Most of them will have too much snot moss and leaves on the bottom to fish any bottom contact baits, so it's your only real option a lot of the time. Just fish it as slow as you can stand with very soft twitches. Nothing that lives in the water is moving fast when it's that cold.
  15. We're usually dealing with 1-3 feet at best in NE KS, so it's a bit of an adjustment at first.
  16. Paid under $30 apiece for mine That flash carp is the next SS on the list. Nude black looks great, I just a fish that likes mine ad much as I do.
  17. These are the new smaller size, the Chibitarel, not the Gantarel. Not even availablein the US yet that I'm aware of. I will when it gets here but I had that color in the Gantarel, it's not transparent at all.
  18. Thursday and Friday are both looking good. Since I didn't go last week, there's a chance I might go both days. If anyone is feeling sick, you know where to find me.
  19. I was thinking the heavier gauge would be best otherwise it will be too light to work properly. Sounds like I'm headed the right direction.
  20. I don't have enough snow to do what Glenn was saying, so fish pictures in the snow are the best I can do I think A-Jay already nailed it.
  21. Yes, I should have noticed the dowel and realized what that was for. That's perfect, thank you, I'll be trying this before the trout are stocked here.
  22. I know a few guys with the rain gear suit from Academy that they bought on sale for right around $100 total that have been really happy with them. It even looks like the 100mph/Guidewear suits.
  23. You can always go with a more affordable option. There's some pretty good suits out there now that you don't have to mortgage your home to afford.
