  1. I used this little gem from the man himself last time my wife was obviously in the mood to pick a fight. I figured if I was going to be getting yelled at I might as well make it good. Telling her "It's not that bad", when she's freaking out over something is always a good move too.
  2. I fished Jeffrey a lot growing up. It's fun if you're wanting wipers and whites and dink smallies. You have to check in and they only let so many people on the water, so that kind of sucks. Never fished Nebo in the fall but I'd do it if it were an option. Wolf was a good time last Thursday and you don't have to worry about turnover like Melvern seems to be going through this past weekend.
  3. This for me too, although I still fish early and late even when the water is cold despite knowing it's not the best time to be out.
  4. Walk the banks of popular fishing lakes, north banks in the summer, south in the winter. You'll probably find quite a few lures if you have the eye for it. I find a 3700 box or two full of cranks every year doing that.
  5. That's a heck of a ride and fish! Welcome to the forum. There is no way I couldn't put this on the side of that van if I was you.
  6. Welcome! Always wanted to bowfish for rays, seems like it would be a lot of fun.
  7. This. Everything spawns early in the year and their fry have now had a full growing season to get bigger, so the average size prey item is getting larger every day. Not saying they won't eat small baits, but bigger does seem to be better in the fall, especially for the bigger fish.
  8. My uncle eats them and swears they're better than crappie or walleye. It makes sense since they mostly eat crustaceans and mollusks and not trash. They have a white, flaky fillet just like the popular food fish too.
  9. Had some of the most aggressive smallmouth explosions ever on the 130 Plopper today, video to follow.
  10. Hippie Rat AKA morning dawn.
  11. I don't see many bass anglers following that law. Kind of like how they're supposed to keep any bass they catch in Japan but end up "accidentally" dropping them back in the water.
  12. I've got a couple things for sale that I'd rather unload locally so I don't have to pay shipping. If any of this interest you let me know and I'll get some pictures. 7' M/F St. Croix Premier spinning rod, full handle model with very light use-$75 Abu Garcia Orra 20 with moderate use-$40 7' 3" MH/F St Croix LTB casting rod, older full handle "Carolina Rig" model with moderate use. It has a telescoping handle section that makes the rod store in a much smaller space if needed. It was custom built for me though and has my name on the rod.-$150 Shimano Symetre 1000 FJ-moderate use-$50 Shimano Calcutta 400B-moderate use but quite a few scratches, still works perfectly-$150 Shimano Curado 200E7-moderate use with a little boat rash and few scratches-$100 Also have a bunch of plastics I took out of the boat and some prototype swing jigs that I'd sell if anyone is interested.
  13. Maybe. The ones I catch every spring rip drag on my jerkbait rod and will even straighten trebles if I'm not careful.
  14. Always assumed that was an after dark thing when most bad decisions are made.
  15. Check out Pete Wenner's weekly video report. He's talking a lot about the Whopper Plopper and wart/rock crawler bite as of late. I wouldn't go out there without a Ned rig either. A swinging football head with a Rage craw or Menace is a good bait to cover water and get a good bite too.
  16. They move to deeper waters near where they were last at during the warmer months. Places like channel swing banks, points with deep drops, or bluff walls are good places to start looking. They like vertical structure that allows them to move up and back down quickly. Sides of the lake that receive sunlight later in the day when the sun is at it's strongest will often be better as the water temp will tend to be a degree or two warmer. They do not sleep or bury in the mud but will often sit with their bellies on the bottom and may appear asleep but are really just very inactive due to the cold temps.
  17. Savage Gear makes some great baits that are very affordable, soft and hard versions. I can't wait until their new Shine Glide is readily available, and they have a new soft gill bait that looks killer that's in the works. You can fish a lot of small to mid-sized swimbaits on standard bass reels with 15-20 pound test with a MH or H 7' or longer rod.
  18. Pictures? Boat model? Anything? Triton makes a good boat but I'm fairly certain they made more than one of them in '01
  19. The second one sooo much lately. Kid will eat anything, except what we want him to.
  20. They're $1 more than your target price but the Zman Batwingz outlast all other trailers for me and work great.
  21. Where?? I love fishing real pork but hate forking out the $6 for a jar of 4 baits like I have to a BPS here. Plus the color selection is terrible unless I want black and blue or brown.
  22. You do need to adjust the way you cast when fishing a swimbait with braid. When you reel your bait in, before your next cast, disengage the spool and pull the line off the spool a little at a time until it's all off the spool. Cut the line at the knot and respool with some copoly or flouro, 15-17 would work well with the S-Waver 168. Fishing swimbaits with braid is playing with fire, especially a sinking bait.
