  1. Have you looked into the Garmin Virb or Virb Elite? It's a really nice little camera with lots of accessories. I have a Virb Elite and really like how easy it is to use and the quality of video it takes.
  2. I've seen them strutting and heard them gobbling everywhere. It's always an exciting part of spring time fishing and I appreciate them for getting other guys off the water to chase them around . The place I deer hunt is loaded with turkey, but I have next to no interest in chasing them. I do buy a turkey tag for the fall season that overlaps with archery deer season just in case one gets dumb and walks by my stand.
  3. I think it is, way nicer than anything I've ever owned before. It's a 2012 Stratos 189VLO
  4. Every time I drive across the Kansas or Missouri river I get the urge to sit on a wingdam or sandbar waiting for a big blue to come by. Only bad thing about my new boat, less than 0% chance it will ever be on either of those rivers.
  5. For long distance casting in open water, it's terrific. I use it for several open water presentations with a fluoro leader and it's been great. It has very limited applications, but the things it does well it excels at.
  6. Green pumpkin and black are the only 2 lizard colors I carry.
  7. Why exactly do you think your hookset was an issue? About the only time I feel like the hooset was a problem is if I get caught in a bad position to set the hook or something happens during the hookset like I lose my grip on the reel. You don't have to try to stretch the fish out with you hookset for it to be effective.
  8. Pretty much everything you need to know about jig fishing right here. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12403-jig-fishing-questions/ If you don't find the answer ask it there so we can keep jig related questions together

  10. Welcome!
  11. You get 1 set of eyes in your lifetime, good glasses are absolutely worth it to me.
  12. If I need a cheap pair I get the $5 Berkley's from Wal Mart. They work pretty well and when they break, you lose them, or they get scratched up, you just buy a new pair.
  13. I got 6 one knockers tonight for regular price, still probably 3 dozen in the store in a few different colors. I bought 3 each of Toledo Gold and Chrome Foxy Shad. They're still out there in some stores, just have to look for them. I have enough to get me through until they're reintroduced though.
  14. I've hunted since I was old enough to walk. I remember hunting pheasant with my dad in our front pasture when I wasn't even tall enough to see over the prairie grass in some places. I carried a BB gun until my dad decided I was old enough for a shotgun, then I got a used Winchester Model 100 20 gauge. Shot a lot of quail, pheasant, rabbits, squirrels, and a couple ducks with that gun. I don't have pictures of my guns, don't own a bunch though. Remington 870 Express Magnum, Remington Model 710 30.06, Glock 19, Glock 17, and Glock 42.
  15. I couldn't ever see a white rod at night, not well enough to tell if a little fish was tapping my bait anyways. Part of the reason I like baitfeeders, plus when a big blue screams off with my bait I get to keep my rod Team Catfish makes glow tape (I'm sure you can get it other places as well). I put some on the end of my custom built flathead rod and it works pretty well. My eyes mess with me so much in the dark though I constantly think my rod tip is bouncing.
  16. Nice blues. I caught my first catfish of the year during a Thursday night tournament last week on one of my bladed jigs. A 5 pound channel sure gets your hopes up for a second when you're in a bass tournament. My partner this past week caught a channel on a lipless bait while another guy caught one on one of my bladed jigs. I caught my second one of the year Monday on a Ned Rig, they're waking up for sure.
  17. I would change them out.
  18. The one I currently have is pretty close to your description. - new or used but favor used due to bang for buck if I can find what I want 2012 with very low hours - material: I am favoring aluminum, don't know why other than I guess it costs less and there are a lot of used aluminums to choose from Look closely, aluminum isn't as cheap as it used to be. I paid less for my glass boat than the aluminums I was looking at would cost. - length: 17-18 is plenty long 18' 9" - motor: 50-115 hp, and I suppose 4-strokes are favored these days? 150 Pro XS - shape: probably semi-v instead of flat bottom jon boat Standard bass boat hull shape - large aerated live well check - covered rod storage that will accept up to 7.5' to 8' rods my 7' 10" swimbait rod fits no problem - adequately powered troll motor (24 volt better?) 80lb 24V - two fish finders (I don't know enough about them to choose yet but am intrigued with at least one higher end one) 2 Garmin 93SV's plus a small Hummingbird in the console. - vinyl / carpet -- I don't know enough about this either but I wonder if vinyl is better. Although, a friend said it can get hot in summer on feet. Carpeted decks with a vinyl cockpit that includes snap out carpet for easy cleaning. - trailer -- Must be easy to unload and load by myself! check - spare tire check - back up camera or dang good mirrors. I can back up real well but I must be able to see! My Tundra's mirrors work just fine - lots of storage everywhere, including under the middle seats (wasted space if they don't use it!) There is no middle seat, it's a day box instead. The step up to the front deck has storage, the cooler is bigger than the livewell in my old boat, the rod locker has 20 something rods and room for more, all my tackle minus my swimbait box are locked in the storage areas, enough storage I have one box just for my nonboaters gear. - decks -- front and back decks check - console steering. Stick steering is nice because you have it right there, but I need a deck. check - LED lights. I have seen some decked out with LED lights and I suppose that is cool for night fishing. I have LEDs in my storage, livewells, and under the console. I night fish quite a bit but don't really see a big enough advantage to the LEDs on the deck to justify them. - color: I don't care that much but do not want camoflauge. If it looks nice, that's a bonus.\ I really like the color of mine, orange/black/silver - easy to clean Has to be as much as I fish
  19. Some lines you can get away with 10 but I'd tend to agree that it's pushing it on your typical bass sized reel. If it handles anything like the old Iron Silk anything over 6lb is going to be a nightmare.
  20. Love his show. You can tell he truly enjoys the sport and the pursuit of the fish, while respecting the fish itself.
  21. There is no 100% effective way without killing the fish and cutting it open.
  22. What part of the lake are you fishing? We normally stick to around the dam and do pretty well. If you haven't tried a Keitech Swing Impact on a 1/4oz jighead or a Ned rig, I'd be trying both of those.
