FL Peacocks
After reading bassboss' last post I started wondering myself, eactly how far north in Florida I can catch peacocks. I am coming to FL on leave in Feb. and the farthest south I will be going will be Palm Bay/Melbourne. I know George Welcome is quite familiar with the area and I'd love for you to chime in if you read this George. There are a couple of neighborhood lakes I fish when I come down that have pretty good populations of tilapia and other such non-native species, and was wondering if it was warm enough to support peacock bass. If so, where are they!? Thanks for you guy/gals' help!

2009 Bass Fishing Goals
1. Teach my 6yr. old daughter how to use plastics, and why to use certain lures in certain situations. (hopefully she'll have the patience...if not there'll always be a can o' worms and a float for back-up) 2. Like many others, gain confidence in jigs.

Where the heck is Bill Dance fishing?????
Couldn't agree more! So what if he fishes private pits. The man is quite accomplished and has a very entertaining show. I've enjoyed watching him since I was a little kid.

2 1/2 weeks (ish)
Well guys...It's almost over. In about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks I will be back on American soil!!! I ain't gonna be on here much 'til I get home because of limited internet access at our current living area, but while I had a chance I wanted to say thanks to all of ya'll! This fine gathering of folks has helped me stay sane in this wasteland. I want to say a special thanks to folks like Rondef, Bassectomy, and The Rooster for the care packages. Thanks alot guys!! For those of you coming to the roadtrip in '09, I'll see you there. I have been looking forward to that since I heard about it. It's gonna be a great homecoming! My lovely wife, my 2 beautiful daughters, my retarded german shepherd, and hundreds of dollars worth of rods, reels, and lures!!!!!! So close yet so far away!! I guess I'll cut this short before I write a book...simply put...THANKS! And I will be talkin to you all again soon! -Joe

Some of my lil' girls outings
The post I made about getting my daughter a new rod n' reel inspired me to put this up. I know she's proud of all her catches but unfortunately she's too young to post, so I'll put some up for her. 3 weeks left and I'll be back home to her! I can't wait for this coming year and the fun she and I will have on the water. Look for lots more pics of the both of us in a couple months!

Help picking new rod/reel for daughter
I think I am gonna go with the ladies' 33 combo. I learned most of my techniques as a kid with my 33 until I started using casting gear at about 11. My projects for this coming year are to 1) 1st and foremost see if I can teach my lil' girl how to use soft plastics, and a couple other lures, and why to use them at certain times. If she gets bored I'll always have a can o' crawlers and some floats with my UL combo she can use to bust on some panfish. 2) better my jig skills

Help picking new rod/reel for daughter
Wrapped around her pinky maybe, but lets not get carried away now! ;D (I do always seem to somehow end up with a pack of bubble gum colored zoom trick worms every time I leave wally world with her though, crazy part is they work!) Thanks for your guys' input! I think I'll do that..get her a cheap(ish) combo and see if she's still enthusiastic all summer. If so she'll get to step up again.

Help picking new rod/reel for daughter
Thanks for that Islandbass! Very informative. I may let her try a couple of my casting reels with the brakes turned up good and high to see how she likes them. I'll be lookin the spinning gear up. Thanks again! You've got a cute kid too man, those pics are great. I can tell you're proud as well by reading your post. I sure can't wait to get home!

Help picking new rod/reel for daughter
I have a 6yr old daughter who I want to introduce to regular spinning tackle. I feel as though she is ready to get away from her lil disney princess combo and try something new when I get home. I was wondering if any of you guys have kids around this age, and if so what has worked well for them. She likes to fish for any kind of panfish and she likes to throw lures for bass like I do cuz she sees me doing it. She has her own lil tacklebox with hooks, floats, and some small rapala floating minnows. I want to get her something that works well but isn't too expensive, seeing as she is 6 and can be kinda rough on her gear. Thanks in advance for your input!

finally ordered the zillion rod
From what I just read about Daiwa jackin' their prices I'm glad she got this for me before the new year!
-
Just a heads up to the Daiwa guys
Glad I got my stuff before the new year then! I have the anniversary edition and have used my brother in law's 7.1 and I love them both. The anniversary casts just a little better, and the retrieve is a little faster and a hair smoother to me, not to mention the paint job is sweet. My favorite reel, hands down!

joining 2 lines?
I do the same thing when I am using braid. Cheap mono backing and about 2 or 3 times what a good casts length would be of power pro, joined with a uni to uni knot.

Favorite jigs
I'm wanting to get better with my jig fishing this coming year, seeing as they are pretty much the only lure I have 0 confidence in. I have 100 bucks of Christmas money for *** and I'm buying some. Any suggestions? I am looking at the evolution jigs (heavy cover and finesse). How about for trailer options as well? Thanks in advance everyone!

finally ordered the zillion rod
My wife actually ordered it for me, for Christmas. TD Zillion 6'9" med. hvy. $179 with a free tackle warehouse t-shirt and "some lures" as my wife said on the phone. She found a coupon code somewhere and called them and apparently they hooked her (ME) up!!! I've got my wife, my 6yr old, and my NEWLY 1 YR OLD lil girl, along with 3 new reels, 1 new rod, and an assortment of baits waiting at home. 1 MONTH TO GO!!!! I can't wait to get outta here!!!!!!!

salt run
If you aren't above bed fishing, you'd probably be able to get some spawners in salt springs run because of the warmer spring water. Do a google search for January reports for salt springs run. There oughtta be some real fat fish caught outta there in January.

I've had it!!
I too go with the "man-roll" method. I have my own roll hidden in my main bathroom and in the kids' bathroom. Since you northerners are gonna be bored pretty soon here I have a simple lil prank for you. Next time you are at a friend's house, take the TP off the roll and reverse the way the paper comes off the roll. For instance, most people have the tag end coming over the top. Take it off and turn it around so the tag end has to be pulled up from the bottom. For some reason this drives people nuts. (you can also fill the roll with marbles or a buncha pennies for extra madness) ;D

Unimaginable class
I read about this in the stars and stripes newspaper over here. What an amazing man to still think of others in the face of such a personal tragedy.

popper towater
In reply to your popper question, assuming your level of experience I would say throw a popper early morning and in the evening when its warm out. In reply to your question as to why your post was moved here, read this: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?virboard=gen_bass;num=1133375680 Welcome to the forum, but try to get it right dude! Snapper G 2.0 could cause problems.

Bait Monkey Attack!
I would never pay that much for a spinnerbait, but that thing IS gorgeous. I am however thinkin bout pickin up a couple of those Damikis when I get home and give all my Christams money to the baitmonkey. Those are about as high as I'll go for a spinnerbait though.
