  1. Any loyalists for this line? It has been out for quite awhile. I remember using it years ago but for the life of me can't remember why i stopped. Other than punching and frogging what would you not recommend this line for? Also, anyone go by the OD instead of the rated test?
  2. Don't know if you settled on a combo yet. I really like Irod Genesis 2 723 Stone Cold Swim/Vibrating Jig rod paired with a Tatula SV 6.3 and 16lb mono
  3. Irod for 95%, but i have a 7H TD Cielo and 610 TDX Drop Shot that will never leave the lineup
  4. Just wondering... Is Big Game's actual 10lb break strength around .31mm? Some argue that Sunline is one of the most trusted because their break strength actually is very near the diameter. They don't underrate lines to claim higher break strength.
  5. I have always doubted that fluorocarbon is really that much better than mono; outside of water absorption and it's effects. I have read the articles and once surface tension is broken, I just don't see how in the course it takes to real a lure back in that line sinking will actually make a difference. Jerkbaits is about the only technique I could see this being worth it or maybe "spybaiting". Both techniques that I don't use hardly ever. Line shy fish and refraction scores are another area I just can't wrap my head around. I have used braid enough and so have many others in clear water and have seen little to no effect. So outside of it being denser thus maybe causing it to be "more sensitive" which may be true but mostly subjective and then you have to throw in what technique, what rod, and my own ability to feel. I just don't know if it really makes that big of a difference. I'm spending a ton of money to buy 200yds or so and was looking to save a little. I was going to do it anyway, I just thought it would be interesting to see what others think and if anyone else has gone this route. Especially after using fluoro for awhile. All that being said, I do have a couple of duplicate combos that I am planning on fishing one with mono and one with fluoro just to see if I can feel the difference. I'm actually hoping since I doubt fluoro that it won't blind me from the real world evidence. I think some folks just drink the Kool-aid so to speak and hope that I haven't been one of them. And in the end if fluoro does seem better then I guess I will just spend the extra money.
  6. I was looking at this. How is the abrasion resistance?
  7. I'm considering eliminating all fluoro and braid from all my setups other than i will be keeping braid on my punching and frogging setups. I'm thinking about using all Sunline monos but would be open to suggestions. SuperNatural for everything other than flipping which would be Defier Armilo. Oh, and crankbaits will be Defier. Anyone done this before? Did you notice any difference? Or were happy you changed?
  8. No, it has more to do with the casting ability of the SV spool you won't feel that with a 1 - 2oz weight. You will be wasting money on technology won't really be able to shine. I'm sure someone has a SV for punching, it's just not for me. The SV is better suited for casting techniques IMO.
  9. Bub's Punch Rod and Fred's Magic Stick from Irod in their Genesis 2 lineup are worth a look. My reel is a Daiwa OG Zillion 7.1. I Iike 80lb for punching. Though 60 or 65lb would work most of the time. Right now I am using Sunline FX2. For hooks I like Trokar Monster Flipping Hooks. I like the Strike King Slither Rig in 1-1/4oz occasionally i will go down to 1oz or 3/4oz depending on the vegetation. I only use black and blue or Green Pumkin for colors. As far as the Tatulas are concerned, i wouldn't get an SV for punching. I would look at the 7.3 or 8.1 in the CT lineup. The Type R is cool looking, but not worth the extra coin. The 100's are bigger. I would look for the Zillion Twing 100 if you like the bigger reel otherwise the Tatula CT's are the way to go. Also don't overlook the Fuego CT. In my opinion its every bit as good as the Tatula and no Twing.
  10. Get the Tat SV. Don't look back
  11. I believe only the prodigy and the hsta had the swept handle. The hst had the fuego/tdz styled straight handle
  12. Great reel. Just heavy. If that doesn't matter then I think $70 is fair as long as there are no internal issues.
  13. Lots of good choices. Look at Irod Crusher series in the 734 model
  14. My opinion is don't slam back as hard as you can. Just a quick solid pull back and up. Look up Bub Tosh videos and his rod by Irod. I also like 3/4 to 1-1/4oz weight and a 3/0 to 7/0 hook depending on the bait tied definitely with a snell knot. I blew up a Megabass Destruction punching because the rod wasn't right for punching. Great rod and there are other brands of rods than Irod, just make sure it is a punch rod or flipping stick with a more moderate bend.
  15. I'm sure the Fitzgerald rods are good, but for the money the G2's are pretty BA sticks. I have quite a few the only ones I don't are the swimbait rods and Alabama rig rods and just a few other random models. No real use for those in Nebraska. There are a few of us on here that fish Irod's and would be more than happy to answer any questions. Also, if you call Irod the guy that you will talk to is Matt Newman the owner. He's one hell of a stick in California.
  16. I don't know if this will help, but a guy in my bass club fishes t-rigs exclusively on St. CROIX mediums because the MH as too "heavy" in his opinion. I asked him why just last year because I thought it was strange. I have only owned a few Croix' s and all were mediums except the Gen 1 Mojo Slop'n'Frog which I hated because of the tip and felt it was too heavy. Haven't fished Croix for 4 years so I have no idea if they have messed with their powers and/or actions. Forgot to add. He's been dominating our club for the better part of 20 years
  17. Any Falcon. Softest rods I have ever fished
  18. I'm not a swimbait/ musky guy, but look at the Irod Genesis 2 rods and give Matt a call. I'm thinking the Jr Swim would work well for what you want.
