  1. I had to think long and hard about this one. Some years back after my shoulder surgery I couldn't wait to get out on the water. I made a list and went over it several times before my first trip. I finally got out on the water and realized that I had brought all of my fishing equipment, but didn't have anything to eat or drink. After fishing for most of the day I was hungry and thirsty. On the way home I stopped at the concession stand a few miles from the boat ramp, and bought a drink and one of those sandwiches out of a vending machine. About 10 miles from home I had to pull over and got sick as a dog. I'm not sure if it was from not eating all day, or eating that vending machine sandwich.
  2. I'd say you had a pretty good week. Congrats!
  3. If it isn't a road bed, creek channel, drop off, slope, flat, or ridge, then it's a ditch.
  4. I don't really think about the first cast too much. It is part of the first trip as a whole, and I've been waiting three months for it.
  5. Man, there are too many good people on this forum to just pick 5 out of the bunch. Fishing with the pros is a little easier. Denny Brauer Bill Dance Roland Martin Guido Hibdon Larry Nixon
  6. Here we go again. Snow and ice on Wednesday and Thursday then a cold front comes in on Friday. Third time this month of putting up with this stuff. I'll be glad when March gets here.
  7. I tried to pull up the tourney on my computer after work and couldn't get it. Then I saw where they cancelled the third period, and pushed the final round out to Friday because of freezing rain. It's good to move the championship round to Friday. If they are having a lot of freezing rain then the ramps will be iced over.
  8. 15 lb Big Game in green. I use it for jigs from 1/8 up to 3/4 oz.
  9. The video made some good points. Wind is also good for keeping the mosquitoes away.
  10. Bass Pro is Springfield, and Paul's Bait and Tackle in south St. Louis. It's been a few years since I have been in Paul's though.
  11. Crank baits, Lipless crankbaits, swim jigs, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits. Plastics on the bottom will work also, but around here it seems like the bass want something moving right after ice out, and during prespawn.
  12. You can break off a bait and tie on another one and keep fishing. If your rod or reel breaks that is pretty much it for the day.
  13. That looks like it hurt. Hope you're doing OK.
  14. A lot of the local water I fish gets some heavy pressure when the weather warms up so there is really no secret spot. There are secret rigs and retrieves, but I keep those to myself.
  15. In the spring and fall I will up size before I will go smaller. There have been a lot of times when a 1/4 or a 3/8 bait will not get bit, but the bass will keep biting a bigger or more fuller bait like a 1/2 or 3/4 ounce.
  16. We used to take a map of the land area surrounding the water where we were fishing. Once you would find structure, take out the map and look around the area to find landmarks and then mark them on the map. It's gotten a lot easier with Google Earth.
  17. I have a h/f rod that I use for punching, and a mh/f that I use for everything else. Most of the time the type of jig I am going to be fishing with will depend on the depth, structure, and cover in the water.
  18. I'll cut off about 1/2 of the front of a Mag II worm and thread it on the hook. Just so the tail starts where the skirt ends.
  19. On the plus side it doesn't sound like you lost or damaged any fishing tackle. There has been a couple of times when I took a tumble on rip rap and ended up turning a one piece rod into a two piece.
  20. Jig and pig, or a jig and craw.
  21. The only hard jerkbait that seems to work consistently for me is a clown colored Rattlin Rogue.
  22. We're supposed to get another round of snow mid week. I guess it's payback for that warm December.
