  1. Rods: Not really any brand loyalty. Most are between 6'6" and 7'0". The longer rods are for casting moving baits, the shorter rods are for bottom contact. Spinning rods are mostly m/f, casting rods are mostly mh/f, but some have more bend in them. Reels: No brand loyalty here either. Most of my bc reels are low profile, but I still have an Abu Garcia round reel on my punch rig.
  2. Too many variables. What works one day may do nothing the next day.
  3. I just bring some granola bars and water. I eat big when I finish fishing.
  4. I've had better luck using the telescopic retriever. When I use a knocker it usually gets hung up. Plus with a telescopic retiever you can reach up into trees.
  5. Clown has always worked the best for me.
  6. I enjoy everything about fishing. From getting skunked to the bait monkey, it's all good.
  7. There have been quite a few fishing trips when I have been the only person not catching. It's dang frustrating, and when it happens I put the rod down and go take a nap.
  8. 1/2 oz lipless crankbaits, shallow running crankbaits, bladed jigs, spinnerbaits, jigs, and paddletail swim baits.
  9. Thanks Glenn. RIP Oregon Native.
  10. I inherited an Abu Vendetta mh casting rod. The only good thing I can say about it is that I didn't buy it. It's like fishing with a light weight pool stick.
  11. Heaviest I use is a medium. I tried a mh spinning rod before, but I didn't care for it.
  12. I have a 6'6" mh rod that fishes more like a medium.
  13. When I use a heavy rod, I'm thinking punching or reeling in a lot of weight. I have an Abu Garcia 5600 C3 on my heavy rod.
  14. I feel your pain. About 90% of the water I fish sees daily pressure every day except now, in the winter. First thing you need to do is figure out what everyone else is using for bait, and use something different. Second, you'll need to find the bass. Around here the bass are usually in the thickest cover, or down as deep as they can go.
  15. I’ve been in two clubs over the years. The first got too expensive and the second club had too many egos. I have a much better time fishing by myself where and when I want.
  16. I start looking for warm weather in March. We may have a few warm days in January or February but it won’t be enough change anything.
  17. I will try new ways to rig baits, but I don’t run out and buy the latest and greatest bait. I just started using chatterbaits about 6 years ago and I have yet to buy a whopper plopper.
  18. I use snaps on moving baits except spinnerbaits. Everything else gets tied on. About half the time I will need to retie after I get on the water.
  19. I don't fish tournaments. I usually bring a few granola bars, and a two liter bottle of water. I have a big breakfast so this will usually hold me over for about 4 to 5 hours. If I'm fishing longer then I will bring more food and water.
  20. BC for baits heavier than about 5/16 or so. Spinning for light baits, and weightless applications.
  21. I tend to fish the same baits year round. My top producing baits are jigs, t-rigged plastics, crankbaits, and finesse worms on a split shot rig. These are not the only baits I fish, but these four have been some of the top producers over the years.
