Lipless Cranks
Strike King Red Eye Shad has a shimmy to it, but I have better luck fishing with Super Spots.

Smaller lure size in winter?
I know a lot of guys that have caught nice bass while they were crappie fishing, and I know a lot of guys that have caught nice bass fishing with a 3/4 oz. crankbait. I guess it goes back to using what the bass want to bite.

Finesse Jig Fishing Tips...???
I consider anything less that 1/4 to be finesse. There are a bunch of variables that go into where and when I fish this size jig over a larger weight. The big three are wind, depth, and vegetation. Shallow, no wind, and a lot of coontail and I will be fishing with an 1/8 jig.

How far have you gone to retrieve a lure?
I've never gone swimming after a bait, but one time the top half of a two piece rod went out into the lake. The end was just bobbing around out there and not moving toward shore. After about 20 min of try to snag it with a crankbait I kicked off my shoes and swam out to get it.

Jig
90% of the time I use 3/8 oz. The rest of the time I fish with 1/8, 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ounce.

Anybody out there using sluggos?
I have some but it has been a couple of years since I actually fished with them. I fish with flukes more now.

Changing out soft plastics
Some of my plastics are more than 10 years old. As long as they are not brittle, and dried out, I fish them.

Questions regarding technique
I fish a t-rigged plastic the same way I fish a jig. You just have to play around with the retrieve until you hit way the bass want it. Sometimes they want the bait constantly moving across the bottom very slowly, and sometimes the bass want the bait barely moving along at all.

What happened to Mister Twister?
I have given up looking for Mr. Twister products on the shelf. I buy them online now.

Smallmouth vs Spotted bass
I normally only fish for largemouth so whenever I fish water that has these two species it is a treat for me. The spots I have caught have hit like largemouth and then start fighting when the hook is set. I have caught smallies that hit like a train and keep going.

KEEPING/MAINTAINING A LOG
I've recorded my catches since 2002 and kept a detailed spreadsheet since 2005. Thanks to a lot of picture taking I can remember some memorable catches from when I was young, but for most of my trips, all I can remember is the size of the fish and the bait I was using.

Bass Pro Excel mono
I use the 6 pound Excel size for my ML spinning rig. I got the spool for free and decided to give it a try. After using it the past two seasons without incident I am really thinking about buying a heavier size for my other two spinning reels. I've never used Excel on my bc reels though.

Rod / Reel / Line combos
6'6" MH/F baitcaster for Jigs. 6'6" MH/F baitcaster for t-rigged plastic baits with weights over 1/8 ounce. 6'6" MH/M baitcaster for jerkbaits, walking topwater baits, and crankbaits larger than 1/4 ounce 7'0" MH/M baitcaster for spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, heavy topwater baits, lipless cranks, and crankbaits larger than 1/4 ounce. 6'6" M/F spinning for crankbaits smaller than 1/4 ounce, and smaller size topwater baits. 6'6" M/F spinning for t-rigged plastics with less than 1/8 ounce, and weightless plastic worms. 7'0" ML/M spinning for split shot rigs, drop shot, and small swimbaits. I rarely take all of them when I go out on a trip. I always take the rods for jigs and t-rigged plastics, and one or two others depending on where I will be fishing.

Sharpening hooks
I just finished up sharpening the hooks on my jigs, spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, and shallow running crankbaits. For me, it's very relaxing.

Crawfish colors and soft plastics
I use 3 colors for craws. Black w/ red flake, green pumpkin, and some kind of greenish brown. Black w/red flake is for murky water, green pumpkin for fishing around vegetation, and greenish brown for fishing around rip rap or timber. Sometimes I think it's the color, but other times I think that it's about my Ultravibe Speedcraw being about the same size as the real craws in the lake.

BPS Micro Lite Ultra light w/ Micro Pflueger President
I have the size 30 president on a 7' ML 2 piece BPS microlite rod. I use it for small crankbaits, split shot rigs, and weightless 4" worms. I've never had an issue with the weight of the rod or sensitivity. Someday down the road, I might get a higher price rod, but for right now this one is working fine.

Which topwater when and where?
Jitterbugs, spooks, and poppers are my main topwater baits. Jitterbugs at night, and right before daybreak. Spooks, and poppers early morning or right before sunset when there is a lot of shade. All three on overcast, or rainy days. I like to fish them parallel to the bank, around the outside edges of lilypads, and in between weed beds.

Everyone's favorite topic- Lure Retrievers
I use an 18' telescopic retriever. The problems I always have with the plug knocker is either the line isn't long enough or the plug knocker gets hung up along with the bait.

Things are getting really weird
My mom passed away 9 years before my dad did. One day after my dad passed we were cleaning out his house and trying to figure out what could go to auction and what could be thrown out. I'm going through a stack of things and I hear my mom say to my dad that I was throwing out all of her stuff. It sounded like she was standing right next to me. While I was standing there frozen trying to get my head around what I thought I heard, I hear my dad say to my mom so what she didn't need them anymore. He sounded farther away like he was in a different room. I went walking through the house saying hello but didn't find anything, and nothing else happened.
