Random useless facts
Dogs aren't suppose to be able to bark lying down. Mine just use to growl when I tried to move them.

How many fish lighter lures on a rod rated for heavier due to the cover they are fishing
A couple of years ago I started casting a Zara puppy on the 7'0" mh/f casting rod. There was definitely a learning curve to it.
-
What's the one rod you would buy again without question if you broke it?
St. Croix Premier. I have 2 casting and 1 spinning.

Gear Ratios for Baitcasters
I use 6.3:1 for everything now. I use to use faster reels, but it didn't make much sense to me to buy a faster reel when I'm barely moving the bait across the bottom.

Foraging...
Persimmons. Walnuts too if I can find some the squirrels haven't found first.

Show off your Stuff
It's been a while since I posted the lineup. This year it includes: 3 Daiwa baitcasters 3 President spinning reels 1 Shimano SLX
-
Rooster tails
I tie directly to the bait. I also just retrieve the spinner fast enough to make the blade spin.
-
Used baits
If the bait isn't too beat up I will put it back in the package and use it again. If it is too damaged to use as a bait, it will become a trailer. If there is no hope left for it, then I will toss it in the trash when I get home.

I wish I had a neighbor that kayak bass fished.
None of my neighbors fish.
-
what is the furthest you drive to catch bass. long distance haulers?
I try not to drive more than 1-1/2 hrs one way to a spot. A 2 hr drive one way is the longest I will go by myself. The problem around here is that a 1-1/2 hr drive can turn into a 3 hour drive with an accident on the highway.

Inexpensive baits that work
The Egg by BPS. I was skeptical with this being a house brand, but after the first season I went out and bought some more of them. You'll probably need to replace the hooks before use.
-
What type of line would you recommend for a medium heavy-MF casting rod used for throwing whopper ploppers, spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits with?
With a mh/f rod I use 15# Big Game.
-
How do you decide crankbait vs bladed jig?
If the bass are biting they will let me know real quick what they want.

Bass Fishing in 2040
Hopefully I will be retired by then.

Ultralight bass fishing
For bass fishing I don't like anything lighter than a ml/f rod with 6# line. You never know when a flathead cat will show up.
-
Zoom fluke
Flukes around vegetation, and hard jerkbaits with treble hooks in open water.
-
What are your top early fall/late summer bait choices?
Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, chatterbaits, and swim jigs. Kind of like fishing in the spring.

No, PFD and no kill switch attached.
That guy was lucky.
-
Mono recommendations?
Big Game. Either 10# or 15# depending on the conditions.
-
What do you collect?
I've collected a lot of stuff over the years. When I was younger I collected baseball cards, and Hot Wheels. Now I collect pocket knives.

What’s your top 5 Fall baits
I fish the same baits that I do the rest of the year, but the ranking will change depending on the time of year and conditions. 1. Crankbaits 2. Spinnerbaits 3. Jigs 4. Texas Rigs 5. Topwater Baits
-
When do you move on?
I will make a couple of more casts into the area where I caught the bass just to see if there is a school in there or if the one I caught was by itself.

Anyone else miss the way fishing magazines used to be?
I like the "A Day on the Lake" series in Bassmaster, but that's about it.
