Good job. That is a nice looking bass.

Forgetful things that cost us fish. Duh!
Forgetting to tighten down the drag use to be the big one. Now I tighten down the drag before I leave the house for a trip.

Will High Gas Prices Affect Your Fishing?
Most of the small lakes and ponds I fish are about 15 to 25 miles away so no I'm still going fishing. I will be doing more fishing off of the bank, and to lighten the load, I have taken some of the fishing gear out of the trunk that doesn't get used that much.

How many stretch there soft plastics as far as they can despite the bait monkey keeping you well supplied
My torn up plastics get a new life as jig trailers. Plastic worms I will keep trimming down. Once the hook is more than 1/2 way past the center of the worm I get rid of it.

More than 12 tons of trash removed from Lake Tahoe
Years ago we were fishing a lake with a lot of trees growing along the bank. Back in one corner of a cove there was a dead egret hanging out of a tree tangled up in someone's fishing line. Ever since I saw that I try to pick up some trash each time I go out, and when I run across line I cut it short if I can't reach the main tangle.

swimjig/jig hookup ratio?
I've had better luck with jigs on the bottom than with swim jigs this spring. Around here the bass have been charging at the swim jig and then bumping it. After that they turn around and go back where they came from in the vegetation.

Finally got to use my spinning gear
I went out for about 7 hours Saturday morning, and it was very different than in April. There was no wind early, then a slight breeze developed. I managed 2 bass on top, 1 bass on a jig, and then 7 out of the vegetation with a weightless 6" worm. I've had both of my spinning reels spooled up with line since the end of March, but it has been too windy to use them. None of the bass were over a pound, but at least I got to use the spinning tackle on this trip.

Went for bass, got cats.
I don't get surprised any longer when I catch a cat. I carry a stringer with me so I can take it home.

Palomar Hard as Heck for Me to Tie
I use the palomar knot for soft plastic hooks. Anything with a treble hook gets tied with a uni knot. Also make sure the line is wet when you tighten it down.

Got my biggest bass ever! Can you tell me how much he weights?
That's a nice one.

Life changing decision
I would contact the new HS and flat out ask them why they need an answer so fast. My question to your current school would be if the other JH head coaches are going to be HS asst coaches? If they are and they are refusing you the same opportunity then like you say it could be a case of politics. If that is the case I would go with the new school.

300lb Alligator Gar!
You don't catch something like that every day.

Difference between dragging and slow swimming
Dragging allows you to leave the bait in the strike zone longer.

Which crankbaits to get started with?
Around this time of year a lot of the water I fish begins to fill up with vegetation so I fish mostly shallow running crankbaits that don't dive deeper than 3 or 4 feet. By slowing down the retrieve I keep them about 1 to 1-1/2 feet deep. Just deep enough to run them over the top of the coontail. As far as color goes, most of the time I just use a firetiger, craw, or shad crankbait.

Chatter bait input
I use either a 1/2 white , or 1/2 green pumpkin chatterbait. I'll either be using some kind of craw trailer or a single tail grub. Most of the time it will be white on the end of my line.
