MLF Stage Four at L O Ozarks
Group A finished up. Now that we're into the work week the lake should be more settled down.

Congratulations on the jig bass!

MLF Stage Four at L O Ozarks
Heavy boat traffic, wind, and the lake level fluctuating for day 1. Sounds about right.

Aches and Pains
Both shoulders have been operated on to repair tears, and the left one currently has a small tear in it that is not worth going in to fix. I cracked my right kneecap falling on riprap when I was a teenager, and they couldn't do anything with it except to let it heal on its own. Starting in the late fall and going through to spring I need to work out at least 2x a week. If I don't, the arthritis makes them hurt like heck.

What's your FAVORITE rod in your arsenal?
I don't show favoritism. All my rods are equal. Except the one with the microguides. That one, I could part with.

Circle of Death
That is scary.

How long to you stick with a lure / technique before switching?
Sometimes I'll fish with the same bait all day, and sometimes I change after 10 minutes. I go with my gut.
-
Wake (or put to sleep) baits
I don't use them a whole lot. I usually cast out a Mann's one minus and bring it back very slowly, so it will stay on the surface.

Craw baits colors
Ultravibe speed craw in black / red flake and green pumpkin in the spring. During the summer watermelon red seems to work best. Sometimes I think it's the size, but other times I think it's about the color.

What is your favorite bait to cover water?
Crankbait, topwater, spinnerbait, lipless, and chatterbait. I have at least one of them with me at all times.

No it ain't!
Last weekend sustained winds between 20 and 25 mph with gusts between 30 and 40 mph. Weekend before that sustained winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts between 20 and 25 mph. During the workweek just a slight breeze. Something is really wrong here.

Cold front moving in
I'd be pitching a t-rig into brush or timber. Start shallow and work your way deeper until you find the bass.

Weirdest Catch
An empty beer can.

Not a bass, but I was bass fishing.
Nice catch! I bet your drag was singing with that one.

Lures you wish worked for you, but don't
So far this year I have done absolutely nothing fishing with jerkbaits. Spinnerbaits, swim jigs, crankbaits, and traps have all produced in the ponds I have been fishing in. I think I will give them a rest for a while and try them again in a couple of weeks after the weather settles down a bit.

What do you do with a rod that just ain’t comfortable
Sell it or trade it.

I have a good feeling about this one
Sometimes I'll use a 6" worm as a trailer when it gets too beat up to stay on the hook. I don't see why a larger worm wouldn't work.
-
jig weed-guards , to fan or not to fan? That is the question .
I bend the guard over to the hook and then trim just before the hook point. After I trim it I fan it out some.

I have never caught a bass using…
I had to think about this one quite a bit. I’m going to go with a deep diving crankbait. When I say deep I mean over 10’ down. I know I have fished with them, but I cannot recall ever catching anything on one.

What was your PB caught on?
Black Jitterbug. One of two bass I caught on the hottest day of the year.
-
Are more ball bearings better?
I worry about the reviews and the quality of the entire reel.

Don't Laugh.....it counts as a fish!
There have been a lot of days when I would have been glad to catch a bass that size .
