Rage Tail
I had bought some Rage Tail Toads and shad when they first came out but never caught a fish on them. Then I got some on the road trip in the tackle bag along with some feebies that Big-O was giving out and proceeded to wack them all week on the rage Craws. I fished them both T-rigged and with a couple segments pinched off as a trailer on a jig. Great baits, they last a long time on the hook. Trememdous action. I'm anxious to try the 10" anaconda's this summer.

4th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Here's the google earth view of the marina hole! The water was up to the darker grey rocks in the google earth shot. From the gangway to the dock all the way around to the boat ramp was lights out fishing all week. Tuesday evening before the dinner, I went down to the boat to hook up the charger and stood on the gangway and proceeded to make 6 casts and catch 6 fish. The largest, a keeper 15" on the first cast. I have no idea how many fish were taken off that short stretch of rocks during the week but it was a LOT!

Susan Boyle
Quite a few with no professional experience who spent quite a few years caring for an ailing mother who recently died and that walked out of a tiny little Scottish village, onto a stage and sang like that? I can't think of any. So it was the story that impressed you? All that is certainly impressive, but that is just the story. I was not extremely impressed with the actual singing talent. I think people are getting caught up in the great story, not the voice. LOL I think you'd better get your computer fixed. You're obviously having serious audio problems. I'll take the judges word for it over yours, they obviously have a little more experience with this music deal than yourself.

Re: Getting Close
I don't mean to be presumptuous but I would assume the wife would be joining the boys on some of these family type summer fishing/recreational trips? If so, you need to start considering a slightly used boat if $20k is your budget. 20 thousand won't buy much fish and ski new. An 18 foot boat is a minimum for that many in a family and once the kids start getting a little older that 18 foot boat will seem way too small. I'd be looking for something in a fish and ski in a 19 1/2 - 20 foot. Once you get down to the 18 foot range in those types of boats there isn't much room for the fishing part. Both front and rear decks wind up being microscopic with most of the boat devoted to floor space and those swivel captains chairs. There also isn't a whole lot of room in that size F & S for storage either. Buy lightly used and get as big as you can.

Road trip thoughts on KY lake
I decided to start a thread for attendees who wanted to post impressions about the lake. We've had some threads concerning other aspects of the trip so I thought the lake deserved one. All I can say is WoW! This lake is only 230 miles from me and I can't believe I haven't fished it more than once in 30 years. Despite the age of this lake, the amount of diversity of both cover and bottom structure in the lake is amazing. If grass or weeds would be present during warmer months the amount of fishable water gets bigger. The other thing that was incredible was the size of year class of bass in the 12-14" range. I probably caught over 100 bass over the week and I can't say that any had been caught previous. Many other members reported the same thing. Just knowing that the larger fish weren't cooperating like they should this time of year makes one realize this lake has an incredible bass size structure. Oh, and the crappie! I've seen the iced down coolers the resorts bring with them to the boat show here in St Louis in Feb. It's always, yeah, right. Geezo Peezo this lake is like some genetic crappie experiment gone out of control. The peanut I caught, around 2lbs, wouldn't even turn heads. Smallmouth. These were the mystery fish all week. CJ's fish was impressive but it seems the SM were caught more by accident vs. actually fishing for them. I along with others were really looking forward battling with them during the week. I will be back to try again. All in all, this is one incredible fishery. Truely worthy of a road trip and 3 thumbs up.

Fish Attractants. Which ones work?
Here's a shot of JJ of JJ's Magic with a bag of samples he brought for the roadtrip crew. That is some powerful strong fish attractant. I'm designing a similar suit for applying JJ's on the water in the boat.

Shelf life for line
I'm also a Realine user and have a number of spools left. Too bad it's not made anymore. As long as you keep it in a cool, dry place out of the sunlight fishing line should last a long time. I have no idea what time wise that would be but you'll probably run out of the line before it goes bad.

I hope this isn't one of those songs where the guy starts singing about Nehi's, moon pies and John Deere tractors......

I want a Revo
And the braking system is improved to what? I'll say one thing, it looks like the spool can't hold much more than 60 yds of line or so. Just less backlash to pick out.

Best line for over Dock steel dock cables
In other words you're fishing Lake of the Ozarks a lot. I've fished that lake for around 30 years. Those steel cables, especially when they've been under stress for a few years start popping and getting very rough. You'll notice the worst of them have rust setting in. Forget braid, it slices up too easily. Your best bet is a something like a Yozuri Hybrid or Flouro but you still need to check the line often. Those older cables are like razors (try grabbing one with your hand sometime without getting cut) and no line is meant to hold up for long after being drug over them. I use 14lb minimum, 17 is better, 20 even better but you tend to spook fish with it.

All Star Rods
The Big Boy series are bully sticks plain and simple. they are designed with an extra wrapping of graphite and are meant to hoist big fish out of heavy cover.

If you didn't go on the Roadtrip...
You should've seen the one Speedbead caught, er uh, hooked. He started yelling, "It's a Musky, I think it's a Musky!" It turned out to be a pretty good sized pickerel. I guess it was good sized, I've never caught one before so I'm taking his word for it. He got it right to the boat and half out of the water when it came unglued.

Burley's Not-So-Random Photos of the Week - Roadtrip
I still remember the look on your face on the way down, it was obvious that you accepting what was about to happen and the only thing that mattered was beng graceful about it on the way down. ;D America's finest! ;D Thanks Burley!! All America should be proud. He showed how to serve and protect. Not a drop of beer came out of that can.

drop the rod...set the hook- not a good idea?
It got to the point on the KY lake road trip that you could tell when you had ANOTHER smaller fish on. The larger fish generally nailed the bait. The smaller ones would tap, tap, tap. Tired of catching the smaller ones, I tried everything to get them to let go. Pulling the line tight, allowing slack. Nothing worked. Those fish usually would start swimming away with the bait in their mouths.
