  1. Other than not liking green reels, no.
  2. Small coffee pot as in one of those little 2 cup Mr. Coffee models? ugghh. Don't have a small grill either. I'll be down to the lake as early as 11am.
  3. The French love to taunt you. Don't fall for it.
  4. Maybe it meant you have to watch it 100 times before you find it funny.
  5. What? No pictures of you in your socks with a boat trying to roll over your butt? ;D
  6. I have never said the SX, STX or Premier were crap. Quite the contrary, both of those reels do lots of things very right and had there been a better braking system on them I probably would've never sold them nor even tried another brand reel.
  7. Everyone gets backlashes from time to time unless you're fishing a dual brake reel like the Pflueger Patriarch As for picking out a backlash? It'll come from experience. I can usually tell when one is beyond the effort or at least not worth it time wise. I would suggest throwing an extra spool of line in your tackle bag for those situations.
  8. Don't feel bad. We got an inch last night. It's all melted now but the wind is pretty fierce and cold right now.
  9. Just a thought, you could attach the wireless Hummingbird transducer to a RC boat and drive the thing around getting depth readings wherever you wanted.
  10. Can he do exorcisms and would he be available on Tuesday morning? At the very least I'd like to put a prayer request in for all the boaters who'll be partnered with Burley next week.
  11. When you were 7 years old I was throwing my first Ambassadeur round reel. I'm pretty certain I've figured out how to throw both in those 35 years. I'm also pretty certain Skeet took the time to personally spend lots of hands on casting time with both types of brakes. Since he's a pro who earns his living fishing and his equipment needs to be not only reliable, user friendly and able to perform with a variety of baits under many conditions with different types of line, I'd say his choice speaks volumes about the two systems. ;DIn the case of the STX, just one that worked worth a d**n would be a welcome addition.
  12. Apples and oranges. The MG 50 is a Magnesium framed reel. Curado = Aluminum. The spool on the MG is also smaller. Any sort of Blingy, lightweight handle will set you back some bucks. At 7.6oz, not sure how much lighter you could make the thing or why for that matter.
  13. If I'm out for big fish, solo is the way to go. I don't want the hassle of keeping a boat in position for 2 anglers plus I can fish a little more creatively if it's just me in the boat. OTOH It is really nice to socialize both to and from the lake and while fishing. Those trips are the ones I take where catching fish is a definite plus but not a necessity for me.
  14. The prospects page is great for getting an idea of fish size and densities on any lake you decide to fish. No point in going to an unknown lake with expectations of catching a 5-6lb + bass if bass of that size are rare in the lake. I will say one thing for you guys on the left side of the state. You've got w-a-y more opportunities and lakes than we do over here.
  15. I have 4 of them I've been using since last season, no grinding that I'm aware of.
  16. On top of Reel mechs great tips I might add. Make sure you know ahead of time what and how the seller is going to ship the rod in before he ships it. I've bought rod lots before and the seller merely stuck all the rods into a tube, capped it and shipped. No packing material was used at all! : The rods showed up with a tip missing and a trigger broken off a rod. Personally, if it's a single rod I'd insist on PVC 2" schedule 40 along with sufficient packing material. Since I started using that on my own shipments I've yet to have a complaint. Cardboard tubes can be iffy.
  17. I don't think the E reels up for sale are anywhere near the number that occurred not long after the D reels were introduced. Lots of guys went out, bought D Curado's and weren't happy with them. Then the mass hysteria to buy up old CU-200 green reels happened. I made a lot of money buying up CU-200's and then reselling them back then. You see the same type of thing with the Revo SX and STX as well. It's a good thing for lovers of those type of reels. You can get a nearly new reel for a lot cheaper than buying new.
  18. Start by pushing all the plastic pins in till they click. Typically, I only turn 2 brakes on. You do that by pushing the pins outward. Make sure you turn them on on opposing sides of the spool. If that setting isn't working for you, turn all the pins back off again and then set it for 3 on. You want to do that with the pins that are turned on in a triangular fashion on the spool. Hope that helps.
  19. I have several Johnny Morris Sig reels. They are identical to the Elite reels except for a couple things. The Elites use duraluminum gears to cut weight and the chin under the line guide mech is slotted on the elite's, also to reduce weight. The JM reels are a larger reel than many. Sorta like comparing a Curado 200D series to say the 100D or even a 200D to a Revo or a Pflueger LP reel. Great casting reels and the dual braking gives you a lot of options and versatility.
  20. Couldn't have said it better myself, LOL!!!!!! Fish seriously? LOL I guess Skeet Reese isn't fishing seriously. He had a choice between the 2 braking systems when he designed his reel for Garcia and chose the centrifugal brakes. This isn't a violin we're playing here, it's a fishing reel and the STX is no Stradivarius. If you set the STX up to compensate for the lack of centrifugal brakes, you wind up turning the spool tension control up higher than you would with other reels. Now the STX has more tension on the spool shaft ends during the entire cast vs the Patriarch. *** for tat.
  21. We got an inch of snow last night. > Yes, I'm ready.
