Why Do You Sort Out For Fishing Tournaments??
thanx for the info!! it was just a question i had... i would like to fish with different people, be it as a boater or non boater... however i live in Mexico and here, it works different. you need to have either a boat, or a friend who invites you... i mean, theres no such thing as a draw, you pay your entry fee and its your responsibility to get in a boat, yours or somebody else who is willing to take you... what im trying to do is invite other people on my boat, even if i dont know them very well, i know i could learn from them... i have a regular fishing partner, my best friend and with whom i co-own the boat... we have a non verbal agreement, i dont know when it started, but it has worked for us... i drive the big engine and decide where to fish, but when we arrive, he goes in the front... it works well for me, as if i want to cast or skip somewhere, i can tell him and he will position the boat for me to do the cast... on the other side, when i driving and he sees a spot he would like to go, he just points it out and we give it a try... however, fishing with the same partner i feel limits my learning curve, as basically i read in here, and then we go out and experiment to see what works or not...

Shakey Head Worms??
thank you!! i will try to do it with one of my current setups, as this is a new technique i want to learn, i dont want to go buying a rod and reel specifically for this... at least, not right now... i have a 6´9" MH Veritas/Revo S spooled with 12# fluoro, which i was previously using only for spinnerbaits, and a 7´ M Falcon Bucco / Quantum Code, which right now has no line but used to have 14# mono as i use that rod for cranks.... i want to keep using it for cranks, so im planning on 14# mono again for this one... which one would be better for tying a 3/8 jig head and trying to "shake" it?? i thought the Veritas on fluoro because of the sensitivity on slack line??

Shakey Head Worms??
hey... what worm would be better for shakey head?? i got 5 and 6" Senkos, Yum Dingers, a bag of Strike King Ochos, Zoom worms, several bags of sticks i cant remember the name, and got me some bags of Big Bite Squirrel Tail worms, which supposedly have a floating tail... im thinking on trying these ones first... but, which others would you try?? im not approaching shakey head as finesse as i dont even own a spinning rod... i got me some 3/8 jig heads, and plan on using a baitcasting MH rod with 12# fluoro...

Considering A Team Tournament League
maybe technically yes, the boater should be responsible for all the maintenance and repairs of his boat... but, i think it would show some gratitude if the non boater helped with some of this things... after all, if it wasnt for the boater, who mos probably did a considerable investment, the nonboater may be a bank fisher.... i know if i was a non boater, i would try to help with this things, be it with money or doing the repairs myself...

Why Do You Sort Out For Fishing Tournaments??
just a question, why do you sort out for fishing, and you get to draw partners?? where i live, tournaments are everybody against everybody, i mean, boater or non-boater doesnt matters, you compete against eachother... however, boatless people need to find themselves a partner with a boat, generally a friend or relative or something... it would seem weird to me having to fish in someone elses boat, or having a stanger in my boat, for an entire fishing day.... i would really like to do it since i think i would learn a lot, but not for a tournament, i much rather prefer fishing with a friend...

Which Line For Spinnerbaits
thats what i have been noting on the answers of this thread... right now i use braid for worms, mono for cranks, and have fluoro on my spinnerbait rod... i was thinking if this was a good line or if i should change it to braid/fluoro leader, since i plan on using that combo also for jigs and as a backup for worms... in the past i used 14# mono with good results, since i fish the spinnerbait mostly as a reaction bait, the fish were hooking themselves without me having to set the hook much...

Which Line For Spinnerbaits
hey. currently im using a Veritas/Revo S combo for spinnerbaits... im using 12# fluoro but sometimes when i get hung up, it breaks... on my worm rod im using 30# braid with a fluoro leader... since im thinking on using the veritas as a backup for plastics or jigs, i was thinking about spooling it with braid, and, for worms use a leader, but for spinnerbaits just remove the leader and tie the braid to the spinnerbait... what do you think?? whats the general consensus regarding line for spinnerbaits?? thank you,

Are You Insured?
thats all i could obtain here in Mexico, i couldnt find a way to insure my boat... however, i added an extension to my truck´s insurance, and, if im towing the boat (or any other trailer) and i have an accident, the boat may be lost, but at least all the damage it causes is covered...

How Often Do You Change Your Lures/jigs While Fishing
last year, on mid Nov, i went on a 3 day fishing trip, and the second day i finally began catching fish on senkos... i caught so many of them that from Nov to March i didnt fish anything else... i still would have 3 other rods on the deck (spinnerbait and 2 crankbaits) but the one that was always on my hands was the senko rod... it kept producing until the end of the season (march 10)... so far this year, all but one fish came out of that rod (i caught one on the rare occassion i grabbed the spinerbait)... season begins June 24, and i already have my senko rod ready to go...

Good Baitcaster For The Price
and so did almost everyone who answered... i think the OP wants to spend $120 in both rod and reel.... i also own the H2O Mettle, for the money it is very good, however, i would take any of my quantums any day, but they are almost twice as much, still in the "budget" category, but almost twice as much than the Mettle...

Jig And Eel???
thank you!! so, besides the "eel" trailer, did the jig had a skirt?? were they normal jigs and they used the eel as trailer?? if so, maybe a half worm would make a good trailer?? i have lots of senkos that break down after a couple of fish, maybe i could use them as trailers for my jigs?? i have never fished a jig before, and i have a lot of confidence on the senkos, thats why i want to try it to improve my chances at catching one with a jig...

Jig And Eel???
hey.... some time ago i got a fishing book, i think its called "101 bass fishing tips", from Rolan Martin, and in several occasions he mentions the "jig and eel"... i assumed this was something like a shakey head, a skirtless jig head with a worm... is that correct?? because in here i have never seen this term being used...

Question About Worm Fishing
thanx, thats also what i wanted to ask... for worm fishig i only know how to use the texas rig, i have never tried any other presentation... i have never tried jigs either... my goal for this season is to learn at least 2 new techniques, i choose carolina rig and shakey head, but may try drop shot as well... and i also want to begin using jigs... from what i read, these are better deep water presentations, right??

Question About Worm Fishing
thax, ill check that.... i have caught fish in there at any time of day, from dawn to dusk, so sun angle has varied and still i catch fish... and i also think its a hard bottom, im new to this and dont know how to recognize it yet, but it feels hard when i bounce the senko...

Question About Worm Fishing
thats correct, im not fishing visible cover.... on my local lake i have locate several places that almost always produce a couple of fish... however, there is no visible cover, these are rock walls and i just cast parallel to them... i have a general idea of where the fish are, but, they could be anywhere along the wall.... so i try to make a cast as far away as i can, in order to cover more water hopping along the bottom... i have been getting up to 15 fish per outing, which is very good considering my location... but i though if i want to get 20+ i need to change something to raise my chances.... season starts in 2 weeks, so right now im reading as much as i can.. ill be there on the opening day and see what i can do.... temp will be in the mid 90s, how good will it be for worm fishing?? since i caught my first few fish on worms, i can barely pick up anything else...

Question About Worm Fishing
thanx!! thats a lot of good info.... im using braid with the leader because, to me, it seems as the most sensitive setup... i tried all fluoro, and all braid, but i prefer the braid/fluoro i have now, besides, fluoro is not visible, while braid is.... now, im fishing anywhere from 20 to 30 feet deep.... i do the hop and drag methods, but, as said before, i do them after the worm is at the bottom... in other words, when the worm is already in the bottom, i wait a little bit, and then i begin hopping or dragging or whatever, and i dont have a problem detecting strikes or other bottom features this way. when i hop it i let it fall in a semi slack line and i still have good contact with it.... the only problem i have is during the initial fall, where i give it a lot of slack for the worm to fall vertically.... after this initial fall,i have no problems feeling the worm.... i have another rod with all fluoro but i used it for other things, ill try them side by side and see if i prefer it, but so fr i have been very happy with my braid/fluoro combo for worms...

Question About Worm Fishing
hey.... a lot of times i have read in here that most of the fish bite during the initial fall.... this makes me believe i am doing something wrong... the way i fish a T rig, i cast it out, and then, with my left hand i peel line off the reel, while using the rod as a whip to lay the line (braid) on the water.... this way i make sure the worm has enough line to fall down vertically.... once the line stops moving, i know im at the bottom, so i reel in the slack, and lift the worm with the rod to see if someone is there... if not, i will let it back to the bottom for a while and then begin hopping it bac to the boat... only ONCE i have seen the line moving to one side while on the initial fall... the rest of the times, i catch the fish when the worm is falling, but not on the initial fall, i catch them because i raise the worm about a foot, and when its falling, they grab it... i dont understand, or dont know, how can i let the worm fall vertically, but still keeping enough pressure to detect bites... the oly way i have found for the worm to fall vertically is giving it a lot of slack line, but i fear i may be loosing a lot of fish by doing it this way... BTW i use 30# braid with a 5 feet 12# fluoro leader...

Senko Tip -101
really?? original gary yamamoto senko?? i think the max i have ever caught on one worm is 3 fish... with 2 being the norm, and sometimes, 1 will be enough to tear the worm enough i need to replace it or it goes flying in pieces on the next cast....

Mercury Black Max 200 Hp
thank you!! that was a lot of good info i hadnt found.... removing the oil injection system and premixing the oil with the gas shouldnt be a problem, i think i can remove the system myself.. now, i read some of these are fuel injected and some carbd?? or was that a mistake?? do you know at what time they began fuel injection??

T Rig Vs Shakey Head??
thanx!! for T rig i have been using Senkos almost exclusively, even though i have lots of bags of Yum, Ochos, and several others i cant remember, i always tend to pick a Senko in any watermelon color.... for shakey head, my uncle uses the same Yum Ribbontails or similar... i bought some Squirrel tail or something like that, which supposedly float, that i think i may try with those heads and my baitcasting setup and see what happens...

How To Install L.e.d. Navigation Lights In Bass Boat Rub Rail
looks nice.... i did the same thing with blue LEDs to the rear of the boat, i havent done the front yet. i used these: i can find them locally for the equivalent to $1 dollar, they come in 2 or 3 LED series (the LEDs are the yellow squares) and they have several colors.... here are two pics of the white ones installed inside, i put them to light the deck and under the console, and also on each storage compartment... yours look way better though, inserted into the rub rail, for mine i just glued the series just above the rail... they come with 3M tape so its very easy to do, but does not looks as clean...

T Rig Vs Shakey Head??
hey... i began fishing worms last november, and since then, i basically quit using anything else... i had tried using them before but couldnt get one bite... however after reading a lot in here and watching videos, i began getting a better idea of how to use them, and now its almost the only bait i use... i have always tied them Texas rigged, changing the weight depending on the conditions but trying to get as light as possible... some time ago, while talking with my uncle, he told me he uses worms almost exclusively... however, he uses a big jig head, 3/8 or 1/2 oz, with a worm, and baitcasting gear... i read on here thats a shakey head, however i see you normally use lighter spinning gear for it... the way he fishes it is throwing it far away, and hopping it or crawling it back to the boat... so, whats the difference between this, and a T rig?? i know the texas rig has a sliding weight, but i read (have never tried it) that sometimes you can peg it with a thootpick... isnt this the same as using a skirtless jig head with a worm?? i already got me some big jig head to try them next time im out, but i want to know what would be the difference, as i have developed a lot of faith in the t rigged worm, specially 6" senkos... should i fish them the same way??
