Even if the manufacturers do not upgrade or change their baits the pros do. I was told by an old Elite Series guy what Kevin Van Dam does to some of his baits which Kevin does not make public. Was it Skeet or Timmy who let the cat out of the bag on the modification of a lure a few years ago? The pros got angry with him and it was an honest mistake. And some of my bass fishing friends modify their baits, too. What kills me is that the pros will tell us that they used a specific bait to win or do well in a tournament without telling us what modifications they made in the baits. And to share with you one change, get your Chug Bugs out and using a drill and some glue, remove one of the balls inside the bait and seal it up again. Can make all the difference in the world.

Junebug, there are clique's every where. They are in my bass club. They control the tournament schedule. They help each other launch their boats at blastoff and then trailer their boats at the weigh-ins. They talk to each other after tournaments and not to the other guys. They have a "good ole boy" communication system where they spread news among themselves and do not include the other guys. They buy bulk oil together and work on each other's boats and motors. They share information among themselves via cell phone during tournaments. Some of these guys grew up together or have business relationships. Their personal ties are strong. Until you join a club and become a part of the club's clique you just have to deal with it. As long as you know it exists you will not have any problems. Just sit back, smile and learn from them all you can. Good luck finding a club. Grumpy, this is not unusual. There are private ponds and lakes that charge to fish. I just found one, by accident, outside Richmond that charges $30 for a half day in a skiff or $70 for a half day in their bass boat using the trolling motor. Only two people fishing at any one time. Catch and release all bass over 9-inches. The pond holds some very large bass and they have the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries scales and forms just in case you catch a big one. I have fished a private pond and it was great. Went with a client who has a house on the lake. We had a great time. He told me that they have a twenty name waiting list to join the fishing club. Go figure.

So let me get this straight, the chip can open doors, turn computer on and off and purchase snacks in the snack room. Since we can be located by our cell phones, I don't think the management has to track us. What bothers me is that this technology can track people and may not be used in the best ways in the future. Now, if the chip can change red lights to green; open retail establishment doors with a wave of your hand, like Darth Vader, and make Bamasux fumble every time they take a snap in football, then I will have to revisit this situation in the future.

My son and daughter-in-law took their Australian Shepherd out with them and he jumped overboard. So they purchased a special PFD for the dog but had to keep him on the leash as he loved jumping out of the boat, be it going 30 MPH or sitting in the water. True statement. I remember Swegmann's in New Orleans that was the leading discount grocery store in south Louisiana. When the children took over the company they expanded too fast and went under. Same with Martin's grocery stores in Richmond. They bought Ukrops, a great chain, and have just closed their last stores in the greater Richmond geographical area. What bothers me is where is the federal government looking into a monopoly situation with bass boats?

Mass, I cannot recall any good videos on spinning rigs. I do take my reels to a guy in Powhatan, Virginia and watch him take them apart to clean and degrease and then use his special formula grease. Good luck in your search for a video.

I have three in a frame and each one has glass eyes. I thought they were from the 40's,. but thanks to Tom I know they may be from the 30's. One day I will have to look up all of my antique lures. Thanks to all for their posts.

I have caught big bass in very small ponds. The major pond I fish is a seven acre farm pond that is where I have caught my person bests. I have caught big ones in small golf course ponds and in an office complex pond. Of course, caught ones over four ponds in the Historic James River, too. Go figure.

This one is heading out into the Atlantic next week. It could be a busy hurricane season in the Gulf and along our Atlantic coast. In Virginia, when big storms are in the Atlantic off our coast, it messes up the tidal rivers and makes fishing difficult, along with boating if the winds pick up and create white caps. Yes, we get white caps on our rivers when the wind is strong. Hopefully, the storms will stay away from our coast lines.

When every retrieve is a problem due to the leaves catching your baits.

Been way too hot to take the boat out. Caught a three and a half pounder out of the lake by my house. Hope to get out week of August 21st after the storm passes and the waters clean up.

One in the Atlantic that should go along the coast and out to sea. That is if the jet stream bounces down a bit and takes her away from the coast. Still early in the season but heading to the half-way point in September rapidly.

May I suggest you include a special compartment where you can store those baits you plan to throw until you change your mind? In other words, have a specific compartment for your buzzbait, popper, Chatterbait, spinnerbait, crankbaits, frogs, toads, etc. that you are going to throw first. Include room for some of your favorite plastics, too. Then use the rest of the box for storage. Don't forget a place for your needle nose pliers, too.
