Merry Christmas to All! You know what we may need to do to help our new members? Have a listing of what different abreviations mean. Such as, IMO = In my opinion. IMHO = In my humble opinion. And so forth. Do you guys think there is a need for this? If so, you all, or I, can start this thread. Input?????

Red, Great post. Thanks for sharing. I was always told to leave all the brakes off. Maybe someone who repairs reels or who knows about reel brakes can give us some tips. I have never seen anything in the literature about reel brakes and I know we all would love to know more on setting up our reels. Reel Mechanic, where are you when we need you???????

Fishing with the Fat Ikas is the easy part. Finding them can be a challenge so be ready to order them on-line from some of our forum sponsors. I will be trying them this spring and summer, too. Just too many good reviews by Road Warrior to pass them up.

With the rain, sleet, snow, ice and wind in other places please continue to post your pics. It is very warming to see someone catching bass this time of year. And don't forget to smile once and a while. Merry Christmas.

My dog did the same thing. We believed she was dreaming. It was funny to watch her do this.

Took vacuum cleaner to repair shop as it was not working correctly and the repair man found a lot of fishing line wrapped around the wheel. So now I double check for fishing line, hooks, beads, sinkers, etc. on the floor before I vacuum my home office/fishing room. Lesson learned. It is not your mother's fault. All she does is start the machine and run it across the floor. Glad someone is cleaning your room. If you don't take care of your prized possessions then no one will. And who does your laundry? Arn't you old enough to do laundry and learn to iron your shirts? My wife taught our son to sew, iron, do laundry, wash the dishes, clean his room, clean his bathroom, cook and bake. His wife is still shocked when he replaces buttons on his shirts and irons his clothes. A word to the wise is sufficient!

I don't think Bill Dance could do better. Great catch. For you guys who want to fish during the winter months, take a lesson from Hawg Caller and be patient. Very, very patient. And sooner or later, bam!

The Richmond FishingExpo is on the last weekend of January at the RIR Raceway Complex on Laburnum Avenue. (Richmond International Raceway) This is where the NASCAR Track is located. It was once referred to as the Fairgrounds. There are some excellent speakers this year. Check them out at the web site for Richmond FishingExpo. Green Top has had the Shimano engineers at some of their past sales on the same weekend as the big RIR show and Green Top also has a great sale. Crowds are thick at both events but worth fighting your way through. Be sure to know what you are looking for as it helps you locate things. I am going to recon Green Top the week before the sale so I know where the things I want are located. And the guys at Green Top will let you know what is going on sale, too, in case you are seeking new rods and reels. You may want to visit both sites to plan your travels. Parking at Green Top can be a challenge. Bring that VISA card!!!!

Hey Avid, Good question. I wish I had the answer but I am sure some the scientists on this site and the guys who use mono a lot will reply. As for me, I have seen the mono curl when you do not wet the line properly when tying a palamar knot. Otherwise, I have not personally had any problems with any high temperatures on my lines. What have you experienced?

Yes, Google Earth is a good site to view various bodies of water. I viewed the James River from the Chick up to Watkins Landing and found some creeks I did not know existed. Also found a few ponds that I had no idea were there. And I found my house! Check it out.

Everyone have a great Christmas and don't forget why we celebrate and for whom. I say his name a lot of times in my boat during the year and so far he has let me continue to fish. Great guy, no matter how you slice it.! Be safe - stay warm - and let us all know what you got for Christmas.

John, Get that degree. Get a good career. Save your money. Don't get married. Buy nice bass boat. Put a Lowrance unit with the WASS on it. Catch a lot of fish. Get Married. Buy house; buy furniture; get dog; have a bunch of kids. Put boat in garage. Forget boat but play with sonar and WASS unit from time to time while in driveway. But what ever you do, get that Lowrance unit on your boat, professionally installed. It is super. I love my unit. And the best thing about it is that you cannot get lost. It tracks where you have been and where you launched.

There are a lot of great comedies out there. Mafia the Movie with Lloyd Bridges is excellent. Mel Brooks is a comic genius. Too many to name and I would have to leave any out. But Porkey's is great. The scene when the girl's coach explains to the principal and the two guy coaches about the guy sticking his "you know what" through the hole in the girls shower was a classic. Great writing. I smile when I think of the scene. The guy in the Bird Cage who upstaged Robin Williams was terrific. I think his name is Lane. Of course, he is a polished Broadway actor. But to be able to upstage Robin Williams is something to behold. Dom Delouise in The Best Little House in Texas stole that movie. He was great! Ghost with Whoopie Goldberg had some very funny scenes. Just way too many to mention.

Scales are a good way to estimate the weight. I use them when fishing tournaments so I know which fish to cull and replace with the larger fish. You guys found some good purchases. Go for it! Merry Christmas.

Yes, did it when growing up in south Louisiana. Lots of fun, even when I tried to cast the fly to the other shore at a lagoon and I fell in. My cousin, who was down the shore about 25 yards fell on the ground in hysteric laughter. If I recall, we had all types of flys all over the place. Plus the fact that it was expensive to fly fish. We caught one bass for every 10 bluegills. But you can fly fish for bass and do well. Check out Orvis' web site for gear and pricing.
