  1. I recently lucked into finding a few Core's on clearance, two of which are 100mg's, and I am thinking about upgrading one of them to a 7:1 using an upgrade kit available from an online retailer. Kit includes all parts needed for upgrade plus Carbontex drag washers for $38. Would you guys do the upgrade to one of the reels or leave them both stock? For those of you who had owned Core100's and sold them, I am curious why you sold them. Just trying something new? Was line capacity an issue? With my budget I am guessing these will be the best reels I will ever own but I still wonder if I should sell and get something else. Haven't had a chance to fish them yet as the season is closed for the year. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Congrats. Great looking fish
  3. Always nice to have you make sense of things around here Hootie!!
  4. Huge congrats on your first largemouth!

A couple #5 fat raps in shallow and deep. A couple Bagley's Fat Cats and a couple that I think were called small fry. Correct me if I am wrong on the later.

Thanks to this thread I was able to remember that I had some older Bagley's and Bomber cranks somewhere. Was able to locate most which included some Bagley Fatcat's, KB-1's and a couple Bomber Larry Nixon signature cranks. Just from late 80's but glad I found them. Thanks guys

A couple Big-O's and a few teeny ones from the late 80's. The smaller ones are weighing in at 1/8oz (0.124 - 0.130 oz) on my digital scale. Seems like the current small ones are listed at 1/4oz. Are they just made a bit heavier now?
  8. Great fish!! I am green with envy!!
  9. The president is a solid choice as the others have said. The Shimano Symetre is worth a look as well. It is currently on sale at cabela's for $69.99.
  10. A bone super spook jr. was my go to lure this summer for smallmouth. Just love those spooks.
  11. 4" for me as well. I tried 5" but the fish seem to prefer the 4.
  12. Going to agree with "hamma" on the Roland Martin Big Bass spinnerbait by Blue Fox. I had a few back in the day and the head design is the same as well as the eye. It looks like it to me. There are a few on that auction site. Take a peek and compare.
  13. I had a hard time deciding in which sunglasses to get. I thought I had settled on the Costa 580G's but after seeing the article on the MLF camera man getting hit by a 1oz tungsten weight shattering his glass lenses, I have reconsidered my options. It was a fluke accident but I don't think I will chance it with glass lenses. It won't allow me to link to another site so just google the story if you haven't seen or read it.
  14. Congrats on the huge fish!!
  15. Great pics!! Thanks tons for sharing them.
  16. They are new. I bought the 3 Cores they had but left the 200's behind. I just can't decide.
  17. Thanks for the info guys. I don't throw deep cranks much at all so trying to decide if I need it. Shop is asking $162 for the TE200 and $94 for the 200B. Prices are Canadian and tax is 15% here. So the TE200 is $186.30 cdn or $142 US and the 200B is $108.56 cdn or $82.75 US.
  18. I came across a Calcutta TE200 at my local tackle shop the other day at what I think is a great price. I walked around trying to think of what I would use it for and couldn't really come up with anything aside from cranks, spinnerbaits and maybe soft plastics. I think it's been too long since I have fished a 5:1 reel and I couldn't make a decision so I left it behind. I'd like to get some input from those who have fished this reel or something similar. What are you guys using it for?
  19. Well fellas...... today was a day that dreams are made of. Received a call yesterday from my tackle shop telling me they are having a sale today that I shouldn't miss. So I head on over not expecting too much. What I found was insane. Just an incredible feeling. Core 50mg7 $105 Core 100mg x2 $105 ($210 total) Loomis GL2 783c $74 Xmas came early.
  20. I mainly fish super spook jr's which have a straight line tie. But I do have a couple full size spooks and the line tie is offset like the one in your picture. Unless both of mine have the same issue as yours I would say it is normal.
  21. I think I have the dreaded "top water claw".
  22. I know several people who have swapped out the trebles on their super spook jr and skitterwalk topwaters for single hooks. I remember seeing a decent thread on a kayak fishing forum talking about this very thing. They were using the Gamakatsu #18411R 2/0 on front and 1/0 on back of super spook jr. with great success. I believe they had the hooks facing away from each other as well...Front hook facing forward and back hook facing back....if that makes sense.
  23. I fish yum dingers as well and they work great for me. I haven't done any comparisons to GYB Senko's so I really don't know how they stack up, nor have I tried the BPS stik-o's so not sure about them. I will stick with dingers especially when you can find them on sale for $2 a bag.
  24. Smallmouth I have only fished in Canada and in Maine. Largemouth I have only ever caught one and that was at a friends pond in Oklahoma. The more I look at the pic, the more I think it might be a spot...lol.
