Fishing Jigs for smallmouth
It's the profile, not the weight.A bulky profiled jig(like most 1/2 oz.)works fine for me.I have caught smallmouth on 3/4 oz. as well(I was fishing 30 ft. deep).Go with a 3/8 oz. if the river isn't deep and you want a larger profile.Sure, you can also adjust your fall rate and whatnot.I still prefer a tube.

Confusing article.
Just from what I collect from this post, the article has probally been written up,referring to Lake Norman.Could it be written up,referring to a specific species?Maybe spots? On Table Rock, spots and sometimes LM will be mixed in,suspended under pods of bait 30 ft. deep in 120 ft. of water. These fish aren't relating to any structure, unless you consider being close to a main channel bend "structure".They are relating to baitfish.Spots are known "chasers",not ambushers.LM often become chasers as the fall patterns start to cycle.

Favorite search bait
I throw my "confidence baits". jig or t-rig worm To properly "search" it really takes more than one lure. When I pull up on a spot or stretch of bank,I usually have an arsenal of rods with different lures that may be presented at varying speeds and fished in all water columns.Time of year and weather are big factors that will eliminate lure selections.I use the most rods during the fall.I never eliminate the jig.

Using beat up Rattle Traps
Every crankbait has it's own fine characteristics and I don't mean types or brands, all of them.Especially traps. If you shake one, then shake another while putting them to your ear, you'll notice different pitches to the rattles.Lipped cranks and jerkbaits too. What I'm saying is if you got one that is a "fish catching machine"and the paint wears off of it,send it to me,it's no good anymore ! No,really, that lure has something about it the fish really like! It's usually the action. Not the paint.

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Yeah, sorry Muddy. The Birds just can't beat the Phils.Maybe we can get em' tonight.I don't know though, every starter last night with the exception of Molina(which was pulled in the 2nd from flu),was either a call up or a bench player. It looked like a spring training line up.

Using beat up Rattle Traps
The bone colored blank of a Rat-L-Trap can be deadly. I would change the hooks if needed, which they are needed as soon as you take them out of the box.

how would you approach this scenario ?
If you'll find the bait, you'll find the fish.Baitfish should be back up in the creeks and/or bays. This is getting to be the time of year that bass are starting to feed up.Fish may feed in the shallows all day long.Simple observation should help.Or take a shortcut and go to the nearest tackle shop and ask how the fishing has been.

How do YOU deal with EXTREMELY LOW WATER?
Your probally thinkin' "deep".I would be too. They may be suspended on you? Just observe, find the bait, they'll be close.I'm not telling you anything you don't know already. Good Luck! Hope you whack em'! CJ

Bass Tournaments???
Very well put Matt. Lovecrankin',in your case, for your lake you may have a point. Bass tournaments are good for the local economy. Why else would it be the Chamber of Commerce pay orginazations to hold tournaments on their lakes. Don't brand all of us as "Bass Tournament parasites".I will admit there is some guys out there that need to have more respect for other fisherman and the bylaws. Tournament fishermen don't hurt fish populations near as much as recreational fishermen.Think about it.ALL tournament guys release their fish.

Your Jig Trailers
If you want to get a trailer that does something different try Netbait's Paca Chunk. Most jig trailers like chunks do not dispurse any vibration.Pacas do!

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
I may be callin' it wrong. The Cubs are the best team in the National League right now...I thought I would never say that. The west teams just don't got any bats.Sure the Padres have the best starting rotation in baseball but you gotta score some runs. The Phillies bullpen is decent but their overall pitching is not.It is their explosive offense that is winning for them, averaging over 6 runs per game(4th best of all time). To me,pitchers start to fatigue this time of year more than hitters do.It's a factor that can come into play.I haven't followed the Mets much this year.I still think they have the best chemistry out of all the clubs. It's going to be whatever team gets hot at the right time.

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Yup,the Cards are done.I think the Met's are going to hold their ground and make the playoffs and are still my pick to go to the WS.The Cubs are playing good but I don't think they will hold it togather if they make the playoffs. To many hot heads on that team. BTW,the "Deadbirds" showed some heart lastnight and almost made a heck of a comeback.Even though they're out of it,I still love to watch a game like that.Injuries have plagued the Cards more than anything this year.Don't be suprised when they don't make alot of moves this offseason. They may go after a leadoff guy and ship Eckstein. They will probally go after a starter but it won't be an ace. Prediction:Met's and Red Sox in the WS.Watch out for Philly.

Big Varner bass, broken rod, and a snake
Nice pics and great catches,Randall.Looks like that "big momma" escaped a bird in her early days.

which works better in fall, humps or depressions??
I don't know of alot of depressions on Ky.Lake.I do know of humps and some rockpiles that are productive, especially in the Fall.Current is everything. This is a time of year where LM and SM will congregate togather up here(or should I say down here?). I don't rely on my DF to show me the actual bass.My partner is bad about running over submerged structure and looking at his DF.If he doesn't see what he believes to be bass,he moves on.Where I think he misses out is that SM especially may be hugged up tight to the bottom, not even showing up.When the TVA is generating water,in the Fall,SM are usually active and on some sort of current break. One thing that has puzzled me,one depth will not pattern. Here, spinnerbaits in 5 ft. out on the rocky flats will produce on the same day as a deep crankbait on top of a 15 ft. hump.
