  1. im not a big fan of spinning outfits as is evident if you were to see my rods/reels. i know in some cases theyre better to use but if i can get away with using a baitcaster for the same techniques one would employ with a spinning out fit i will. that bein said, i was just wondering how many of you feel the same.
  2. lol yea, i think crews was their second biggest name on the vicious team. i wonder what made swindle go to sunline other than its some great great stuff.
  3. hmmm tough one, i dont own the sx but have used it and theyre good, can be a bit touchy at times but once theyre dialed in theyre great. i own the orra and its been great, never had an issue. shimano, eh imo theyre a bit over rated but thats just my opinion, everything is personal preference. heard a ton about the pq's bein great and recently had the opportunity to use one and was impressed. enigma, no. im a lew's reels guy but if i had to choose between the reels on the list id go with the pq.
  4. i fish eastman, kaweah, pine flat, ect. i hit mendota and firebaugh for cats and striper oooonncce in awhile, used to only catfish. i also fish the san joaquin river and the kings. just fished the kings today and had almost a 15 pound total
  5. probably dicks only because bps is a lil over 100 miles away and there is no cabelas anywhere around me. other than that im usually at the local tackle shop, valley rod and gun and once in awhile fishermans warehouse. also order stuff online from tw.
  6. always use a mono leader. your bait wont exactly be floating up a foot off the bottom but itll definantly ride up a bit and have a different action of course than say a t-rig. i won a tourney that last 2 hours on a c-rig on rocky points while everyone else was drop shotting. its a great way to get finicky fish and catch a limit. zip, i never thought about runnin a jerk bait on the end of a c rig, ill have to give that a shot.
  7. yea seriously! idc about the giants parade, i just wanna watch the bass pros! lol
  8. yea man its ridiculous. my favorite rods are irods, theyve been amazing for me and the 2 new models comin out are gonna be even better. my favorite reels are lew's, amazing quality reels and when ive mentioned that on a different forum, oh boy those dudes started bashin my gear and it was just ridiculous. ive seen guys use their "wal mart specials" to out fish guys with high dollar gear. idc if one spends 400 bux on a rod and 200 or so on a reel, if that person cant effectively use that equipment to catch fish than it really doesnt matter how much the rod/reel was or what name is on it. i really cant stand that crap. on that same forum i see a bunch of guys whining and crying about the "crappy rookie leagues" and how its their fault that the aba motherload tournys arent 45 boats or whatever and i just think, maybe if most of those dudes werent such douch bags, the turn outs would be better. people need to stop being so judgemental and flat out ignorant because all that does is divide us as a country, people, and as anglers who love bass fishing be it for the fun and love of the sport or competition. i really cant stand people who blame others for their ignorance and lack of respect.
  9. very interesting. i was always under the impression that sunline was top notch consistant stuff, guess i thought wrong. ive used it before and it performed great! no issues at all but with that being said, i dont wanna pay 23+ dollars for a spool of line just to have it be inconsistant and not perform like it should. same goes for seaguar, ive had it break on me when it shouldnt have along with a couple other issues, maybe it was my fault, idk but thats one reason im wanting to check stuff out other than seaguar.
  10. yea, same as you. for some reason white and albino never get a chance, i have some baits that are those colors but they really never get used.
  11. humanity in general, anglers who bash other anglers rods/reels because they dont say "gloomis" or "shimano", theyre the worst that ive encountered, keyboard gangsters, people who think they can fight, gangs, the dumb crap they do, racism, discrimination, bullying, jersey shore, people who dont shut up ever, people who mumble, annnd a lot more but id probably run out of room to type so for now ill leave it at this.
  12. thanks for the suggestions guys. might check out he xps, its extruded by toray n toray is pretty top notch as well. what about sunline?
  13. get it, theyre awesome. very tough, sensitive, and light. you wont regret spendin the money.
  14. its not that i dont like seaguar, ive used it before and liked it but i just wanted to try other stuff. i like to experiment and i wanna try other lines ive never tried. a lot of people love lines other than seaguar so im just curious to try it and find out why
  15. so im not new to fluoro but im lookin to experiment a bit. ive been using vicious pro elite for awhile now and love it, its never given me any problems. my gripe with it though is the diameter of the higher pound test lines such as 20, 25. i know its gonna have some thickness too it but i also know theres other lines out there that have a much smaller diameter but are still in the 20-25lb test range. what would you all suggest i try? im open to everything except seaguar, i know its good stuff but id like to find somethin different. thanks and sorry for the long post.
  16. when i fish the rivers around here im looking for cover first. it can be a twig sticking up out of the water because who knows what else lies underneath. like stated above, cover creates a current brake where fish can basically just chill and wait for somethin to pass by. find rip rap and flip the hell outta it, throw a square bill, spinnerbait, anything of that nature because river fish are always eating and usually will annihalate those baits. the rivers i fish are similar to yours, water drops somewhat deep then gets super shallow, tons of cover, and the current is usually pretty slack in most parts. once again target current breaks because they will be some of the most productive areas. that long wall you were talkin about, hit it hard because i guarantee you theres a few monsters in there and that whole edge is probably slack water just outside the current where theyre sittin and waitin. that would be the first place i fished. my partner and i just fished the river close to home, the deepest water we found was 7 ft, all of our fish came in 1-3' of water, the biggest bein a 6.5 pounder i caught by pitchin a rip rap wall. all the other fish came by square bill or spinnerbait right as it passed the cover(current break). river bass are pretty easy to pattern and find, if it looks good, chances are theres fish and some good ones at that. ive hardly ever caught river bass in open water, so not to sound like a broken record but fish cover, current breaks, ect and you should get on some nice ones. im much better at explaining things face to face or over the phone but i hope this helps.
  17. msolorio replied to matt996's topic in Tournament Talk
grass, rip rap, points, marinas, road beds, channels, off shore structure, pre & post spawn. if i can flip & pitch all day and get a nice sack im happy. won a few tournys doin that when conditions were less than ideal for that type of fishin.
  18. i grew up fishing rivers, i was never able to get out to the lakes until a few years back when i started fishing tournaments so maybe i can help, what exactly are you wantin to know?
  19. kvd is great obviously but im tired of him already. id like to see ike, gman, upshaw, evers, brauer, or martens win but anything could happen and an unknown can pull it off, only time will tell.
  20. yea braid on your heavy frog/jig rod, copoly on the rods your gonna be throwin topwaters on and fluoro on what your gonna be throwin t rigs on. as far as what lb test, 50 braid, 12 copoly, 15 fluoro. dont know if i covered everything but that shud do you just fine.
  21. your very welcome. i love em! its amazing how smooth, durable, and well made they are for 100 bux. theyre seriously smoother and cast better than some of my other reels that cost 80-100 bux more. im on a very tight budget so to get the quality you get with the standard speed spools at 100 bux a pop is great to say the least. some guys kinda talk crap cus i love lews reels and irods but idc cus they work for me. i can do the same thing with my 100 dollar speed spool as others can with their, IMO, over rated 160 dollar curados or revos and 400 dollar loomis rods haha sorry i kinda rambled lol
  22. i have a few of the speed spools and can tell you you wont have to turn the mag breaks all the way up. i like my reels loose as well and usually only have the mag breaks set to about 3.5 or 4 and have no issues.
  23. snell knot is all ill use for flippin n pitchin. never slipped on me or given me any other issues. if the knot is gonna fail, itll fail when you go to tighten it down, if that happens like stated above, add a couple more wraps around the shank. i usually do 6 or 7 wraps and found that to be sufficient enough. the snell is great in the fact that its simple, fast, and positions the hook at a 90 degree angle when setting the hook, therefore most hooksets are in the roof of the mouth.
  24. same here, got tired of spendin 7-8 bux for gy senkos that last maaaayyybe 2 fish. z man zinker z's as well as sk ochos have been just as productive as the originals. plus, i can fish the same zinker z all day without it tearing.
