  1. I remember fishing with glass rods and 13oz round reels for hours on end and now 5oz is too heavy...yikes. The new extremes are a little heavier than some, but it's mostly in the handle so the balance is incredible.
  2. Went to the local reservoir today because I figured the crappie would be moving shallow into the rocks. Only managed a handful, but did catch this tank. A little over 16" long, but as big around as a dinner plate and really thick. Managed a 5lb+ largemouth as well. Lot of fun on my crappie rod. Really odd to see one that size out of this lake too. My stepdad said I should have taken to the marina to see if it's a lake record lol
  3. I've gone several trips without retying and can't remember the last time I lost a fish due to line failure ?‍♂️
  4. Backlash is usually because fluorocarbon is much more dense than mono and braid. That extra weight requires a little extra braking.
  5. Sportsman outfitters had the ALX for $129 a while back, reckon they still have them. Don't know how much the spool costs, but it's a slick little reel.
  6. Current model Legend elite spinning rod, phenix recon2, the 2016 IMX, Legend Xtreme with the nsfw handle... and pretty much anything with a split grip.
  7. Curado DC is a really good reel.
  8. Unless you're looking for a specific action that the Elite offers and NRX doesn't, then it's worth the money for me. The Elite is very sensitive and typically better built (though the 7' MF casting rod I got this week has crooked guides) but the blanks aren't that close, in my experience. The NRX just feels electric.
  9. It's worth it for the NRX in my opinion. I think Loomis are all pretty much overpriced for the performance, but the NRX is something special. And I've bought two Legend Elites this month, so it's not a bias thing. The NRX is just a better rod.
  10. I've bought from plat, digitaka, and hedgehog, during the crisis. Things are a little slower, but not unreasonable. I've only bought one rod a couple years ago and got hit with customs charges, so haven't done it again. Lots of people do with no issues though.
  11. There's an Okuma Helios on sale for $99 (reg. $179) at TW with those stats, that I've been eyeballing. I've never heard a single person mention using one, so I have no clue how well it fishes.
  12. Without knowing enough details, I'm just going to recommend the Deputy, because it seems like it works for almost everything.
  13. Fishing in the lake behind the house and buying way too much fishing gear online.
  14. From what I gathered, it only appeared to happen once. Not regularly.
  15. I'd spend a few bucks more and get the newer Tatula 100. More comfortable frame. They go for $110 regularly on the auction site.
  16. Has nothing to do with knots or line guides. Braid has very high tensile strength, but very little shock resistance due to the lack of stretch. If it came to a dead stop after a backlash on a hard cast, it will snap every time with that much weight. I was fishing a local spillway with a 6oz lead when that happened to me once. I'm pretty sure it's still in orbit.
  17. That means there are zero made in the USA rods.
  18. North Fork Composites makes their blanks start to finish in Washington. Batson Rainshadow blanks are also made in the USA
  19. Curado DC holds about 150 yards of 30lb Sufix 832. It'd take a lot of retying to cast it all off. I haven't found any issues casting as the spool gets lower, but I haven't let it get too far down.
  20. If you're fishing freshwater, there's no real reason to buy a Twinpower over the Stradic.
  21. The only time I've ever encountered issues regarding line visibility is fishing for crappie.
