  1. I'm going to fish Pickwick for the first time tomorrow Fired up and hope somethings biting!! I'll report Sunday.
  2. Hey man....congrats on the new family and house.....best wishes to all of you!
  3. Looks like you could hide an extra rib eye under that chin....I'll have keep an eye on you next time your'e in TN for a cook out!!
  4. The BPS in Nashville took it off the shelves temorarily. One of the guys in our fishing club uses it all the time and loves it. A month or so ago he went to buy some more and when he couldn't find it he asked about it.They told him there was a problem with it so they stopped selling it til the issue was cleared up. I don't know what the issue was or is but if you bought yours recently this could be it. My friend did not have any issues with the line he has on hand.
  5. Sunscreen, TP, Towel, Camera (always optomistic for a picture fish)
  6. Came home from my club tournament today and mine was waiting for me (nice surprise after a slow day on Percy Priest Lake).....Thanks Big O and Glenn & Keri BTW all my fish today were caught with Rage Tail products (Rage Craw on a jig and Rage Grub on a swim jig)....Thanks again Big O
  7. I know someone that will take her shopping to Wal Mart at least once during the trip!!!
  8. I got a BPS Carbonlite earlier this year and really like it. It's in the lower end of your price range and it's made in several different lengths and power / actions. I have a 6'6" Med Fast and it has plenty of backbone. It's rated for lures from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.
  9. If it's catching fish leave it as is.
  10. Folks have beeen using lead weights for years and catching fish. That having been said I like the smaller profile of a tungsten weight but I'm not sure it increases my catch rate. I think if I were in your shoes I'd be just fine with lead. You can always upgrade to tungsten later when your budget gets a little bigger.
  11. I came by my good looks naturally....but at my advanced age am working hard to keep them!!
  12. I'm going to buy a new rod and reel that I need like a fish needs new shoes. Came into some unexpected mad money, split it with the wife and we each get to do whatever we want with it. In any event I'm down to the above two reels with a 6.whatever ratio. I like the idea of the Cronarch just from past experience with Shimano and I'm confident it will be a great reel. However, the Tournament Pro seems to have more features and the reviews I've read lead me to wanting to try one of these. I'm sure I'll be pleased with either but would like some input based on the experience of others who have used both.
  13. That is exactly the same combo I have for heavier cover. I'll be using this mostly on Old Hickory and Percy Priest Lakes. Neither of these lakes have much grass....the Corp of Engineers has done a good job of killing it on Old Hickory leaving some sparse shoreline grass and Percy Priest is more of a rocky / stumps / wood type lake.
  14. Pretty much what I was thinking....I won't typically use it in heavy cover. I have plenty of combos that will fit the bill but just came into a little mad money to buy some new gear I need like a hole in the head. Thought it would be good (but not necessary) to have something dedicated to these techniques. Thinking I may try one of the Lew's reels only because I don't have one (I'm a Daiwa, Shimano and a few Revos and a couple Pro Qualifiers guy). I like the 6.4 to 1 ratio, it works well for me. As for the rod I'll do some shopping. I have a Powell 703C and its tip does not feel much different than my 7' Avid MH F. The power and action does vary some between brands but I get the consensus of what everyone is saying. Time to go have some fun at the tackle stores! Christmas in August!!!
  15. Thinking the same type power / action would work well for spinnerbait, swim jig and plastic swim baits (ie..LF Magic Shad, Skinny Dippers etc..). What type rod would you use for these applications? What ratio reel would you use?
  16. Out of curiosity I looked up the definition of "moderator" on Wikipedia....here it is: "a person given special powers to enforce the rules on an internet forum" Clearly it must be those "special powers" that strike fear in the membership!!
  17. Not sure what they are supposed to imitate (maybe a lizard) I've had alot of luck with them on a carolina rig.
  18. I use a St Croix Avid 7' MH F, I usually use 1/2 or 3/4 weights.
  19. Hadn't thought about that, guess I better get a "fishing cup".....wonder if Shimano makes the best cups........
  20. Went fishing this evening on Cheatham Lake (Cumberland River between Old Hickory and Lake Barkley). At the end of the day and on the way back to the ramp was surprised by an Asian Carp trying to jump in the boat. It hit me on the shoulder and bounced back in the lake. Although the incident was pretty funny it's bad news to see one here, guess they are spreading.
  21. Happy Belated B'Day young fella!!!
  22. Without a doubt Daiwa makes the absolute best Cane Poles.....I prefer Berkely polyester twine
  23. All of thats OK......BUT......that misguided Razorback thing you got going on, not so sure!!!
  24. Well, it didn't sound quite right to me but it did stop the bleeding. I kind of thought if Polar Bears could drink it, it would be OK. The poor fish did look thirsty and seemed to enjoy the Coke, I bet he would have enjoyed a bit of rum with it too. On a serious note....the fish weighed in just fine with no bleeding as he went straight to the livewell and my partner used Rejuvinate (it was a Bassmaster Weekend Series and they push Rejuvinate).
  25. While fishing a tounament this weekend my boat partner caught a fish that was bleeding. He pulled out a can of coke and poured some down the fishes mouth. He told me it's an old trick to stop the bleeding, it seemed to work. Anyone heard of this or tried it before?
