  1. Most guys on this site send me their extra lures to "hold for later". You're welcome to join this trend with your excess fishing equipment. Oh, almost forgot, the same holds true for their excess stacks of cash, you don't want them lying around getting moldy. No need to thank me, happy to help.
  2. Try this website for AZ fishing info: http://www.azbasszone.com/forums/index.php? A lot of juvenile crap is posted but there is a lot of info on fishing our desert lakes. Roosevelt has been very low for a couple of years but the lower lakes in the chain are in good shape.
  3. Nice organizers. I use a section of foam pipe wrap. The built-in slot is helpful. A piece of pool noodle would work also.
  4. It would be sweet if outboards came with replaceable skegs, maybe bolt-on or keyed. That would make replacement very easy considering how vulnerable the skeg is.
  5. Never broke a rod in my life but last trip out I broke 3 of them. #1 Landed a small bass and when I released him the tip had broken off about 2" down. #2 snagged up and the rod broke trying to release the hook. #3 Set the hook on a Senko strike and snapped off the rod tip about 4" down. I literally ran out of spinning rods and had to use my bait caster for everything. Just ordered a new rod this morning. As bad as that was........I once ran extremely low on cocktail ice. Thought I might have to drink tepid Kamikazes but I made it back ok. Guess someone was looking out for me!
  6. They do make great reels at a great price. I have an Okuma flyrod that I really like but spinning rods may be a different game.
  7. Trying to decide between an Okuma Guide Select or Citrix spinning rod, 6'6" to 7', MH. Anyone have any experience with these rods? I'd like to hear your opinion.
  8. Ribbon tails for me too. I like Zoom U-tails, tequila sunrise or black.
  9. Thanks for the heads-up everyone. Appreciate the ability to tap into everyone else's experiences.
  10. They're just beginning to move up at Roosevelt. I assume they run a little later at your elevation.
  11. Don't feel too bad about it, I still do that while I'm fishing and switching back and forth between Mom/Constant and leave it in the middle. Kinda like "why won't my motor start" when I don't quite have it in neutral.
  12. Quick question for the wacky-rig aficionados; When using nail weights, where do you place the weight? Seems like the middle of the worm would preserve the action better than sticking the weight on one of the ends. But may the off-axis position creates a different kind of action.
  13. I put off a boat purchase until I was 54. Not a lot of incentive when you live in Southern AZ! Finally pulled the trigger and got a Crestliner Canadian 18' w/Yamaha 60. I've towed it to Florida twice and now have it stored about 7 miles from the lake I fish. Very happy with it.
  14. I patched a through-hull hole in the stern of my aluminum boat. It was a fitting for filling the live well that I never use. Here's how I did it. Two large aluminum (1/8") discs, 2 smaller aluminum discs to serve as washers to spread the force evenly, 2 round rubber patches to match the aluminum discs and 1 stainless machine screw with a Nylock nut. I used JB weld to attach the small disc to the larger disc on both pieces. Then 3M 5200 to act as a sealant at the rubber/disc point and again on the rubber/hull point. A few pics to illustrate: pic 1- the pieces before assembly. pic 2 & 3 - views of the assembly dry-fitted. Pics 3 & 4 show the attachment of the aluminum/aluminum and how I aligned the holes in the discs and rubber.
  15. The basic difference is that women like to attend these functions to socialize. Men are more goal-oriented and the acquisition of fishing stuff is just a prelude to the act of fishing. For the most part anyway.
  16. Good article, thanks for the link.
  17. "Didn't get many but the ones we did catch were really small"
  18. I've been using Zoom U-tail worms for a while and recently picked up some Zoom Trick worms. I'd like some input from others who use these worms regarding rigging, retrieving etc. Appreciate any input.
  19. I have one of each, no experience with other reels for comparison though. It's a retro thing with me, price too of course. They'll last forever and pretty easy to disassemble. If they still have the factory grease in them you really need to change it out. It acts more like peanut butter than grease. I don't think the asking price is particularly good, after you factor in shipping you could almost buy new if you find a good sale.
  20. So do you guys tie on a short leader so you don't have to cast the knot through the tip guide? My knots are probably too bulky for that. I need more knot tying practice.
  21. Do, or do not. There is no "try".
  22. Here's mine. The crate holds 12 plano's and the little aluminum rack is really convenient.
  23. Rapala actually recommends this method on some of it's lures. There's a lot of info regarding how to use their lures on their website.
  24. I found this to be true also. They work great for a quick attachment but tend to work their way off.
