  1. I keep a spinnerbait pretty much permanently on a BC rig. Love the way they go through brush without hanging up (too much)!
  2. Try this: http://www.netknots.com/html/san_diego_jam_knot.html
  3. An apple, water and a can of chew.
  4. I've had problems with the Black and Decker, the digital readout went haywire after about two years so I had no feedback. Replaced it with a Schumacker with a dial guage.
  5. A lot of guys on my home lake use a small swimbait as a trailer on their spinnerbaits. I only use a trailer if I want to keep it shallow.
  6. My break point is about 10mph. Over that I'm constantly fighting to keep in position, can't cast accurately and my tobacco spitting gets too wild!

On a similar note, the Plano 360's fit just perfectly in a plastic milk crate. I put a shelf in the middle, stand it on end and voila - storage for 10 Plano's.
  8. Guess I'm the only guy who has problems with this knot. I think I'm getting the line crossed and it's causing a failure. Can't seem to keep the lines parallel when tying.
  9. A swivel is not really necessary with cranks. They rock from side to side but shouldn't really roll. I use a snap alone with most baits for two reasons: Quick-change capabilities and because cranks should typically not be tied with a clinched down knot. Use a Rapala knot or some other knot that leaves a small loop. I use a duo-lock snap which gives the same effect.
  10. My luck to hook a hog on a reel I serviced myself and watch the handle fall off.
  11. Made my first attempt to clean and lube my 2-year old Abu C3. Thanks to the tips I got on this forum it went really smooth, no problems at all and no leftover parts. In fact, it went together without a hitch. I'm amazed at the difference it made in performance. The reel is much quieter, smoother and casting distance has improved noticeably. I can't believe that Abu lets them out of the factory with the lube they have in them. Feels like they used vaseline. I was so inspired that I tried the same trick on my spinning reel (Okuma Inspira). That didn't go so smooth. I took the bail one step further than I should have and had a bear getting it back together. It works ok now but the bail has sure lost its snappiness. So to resolve the issue I picked up a Shimano Symetre on sale for $70, end of model close out. That's a nice reel. Where do they come up with these reel names anyway?
  12. With polarized sunglasses and assuming fairly clear water, just look for little headboards with a half-dozen pillows on it. Hope this helps.
  13. Housing prices have dropped through the floor recently, maybe because of the huge run-up in home costs the last few years. A friend of mine purchased a new 2200 foot home a few months ago for 225,000 - saving 75,000 over the original asking price. Now he can buy his neighbors identical home for 150,000. It gets very hot although the humidity is often in the single digits except during the monsoon season (July- mid Sept). Phoenix is also the kidnapping mecca of the US thanks to the "rich cultural heritage" of some our uninvited "guests". Surprising amount of fishing for a desert city though. But you don't want to do much summer fishing unless it's at night. Here's a website for fishing the area: www.azbasszone.com
  14. Cabela's has them, item # IK-0189049. They run from $20 - $50. 12-volt, 8-amp batteries. Leakproof design and maintenance-free operation. Available in three choices. Battery measures: 4"H x 6"L X 2-1/2"W.
  15. I found one fouled underwater last week after a tournament. A firetiger #07. I'll give it a shot next week. I understand it's a slow retrieve lure so we'll see what happens.
  16. Great idea, thanks for the tip. I'm going to try this.
  17. I cast with my right, reel with my left. Just like a spinning rig. I'm right-handed also.
  18. Or hang them from a few feet of line to make slap-toys for my cat!
  19. I really like the Rapala line but the original floater, while a great lure, is pretty hard to cast. It's a real versatile bait though and very effective. You can split shot them for a little more depth or even use them on a carolina rig.
  20. I don't count things like hooks or plastics but it galls me to lose a crank or spinnerbait. Overall, I've recovered more lures from brush then I've lost. Last week I lost a Rapala Husky Jerk but I recovered someone else's Rapala jointed shad rap and two spinnerbaits with trailers. It's especially good hunting on a Monday following a tournament!
  21. He says 'ATM machine? Is that the machine that makes Automated Teller Machines?'
  22. I have a C3 and C4. I always wanted one (the red one) when I was a kid - way back when. Thought they had a cool classic look. I took a chance a couple days ago and disassembled the C3 for cleaning and lube. The project went well and it really improved the performance of the reel. Still don't have a red one but ........
  23. Helpful video, gonna cross my fingers and give it a try.
