I've gotta remember the pause-on-a-slack-line part.
  2. If you latch onto a big bass and pass the rod over to your kid or mom to land it, you're a pretty great fisherman.
  3. Cool! Bite-sized bass.
  4. You ever been in a tourney and ask a local to move off your spot??? Happens everyday, and there is nothing wrong with it. Get off your high horse. Uh-oh. I've got a real problem with this.
  5. Thanks to everyone for the heads-up. I'll check out the provided link and add in all the other tips. I'll be catchin' the basses for sure now!
  6. Could I get a quick lesson on using these? When I retrieve them I just get some kind of random pattern, circles around, spirals etc. Seem to get the same action on a slow twitch, fast twitch, soft twitch - whatever. Just looks like I'm dragging a piece of soft plastic through the water.

I'm just discovering the CD minnows. I really like the Dive-To series but the CD's let you drop your lure to any depth you like. I like the flexibility of these lures.
  8. Lucky man - does she have a sister?
  9. Would a Rapala Count-Down minnow work as a suspending jerkbait?

I don't see any of those in my tackle box - maybe THAT'S the reason I'm not catching my share!
  11. Not trying to offend anyone but here's a question I've never heard regarding Dottie; The type of fishing that was required to catch her seems extreme, even for bass fisherman. You have to line up early to get in before they shut the gates, pay your (I believe) $30 fee, focus on this one fish only and spend how many hours in pursuit of her. I realize this represents the extreme range of fishing behavior but frankly, it kinda takes the fun out of it. Maybe we need to step back a little bit for a fresh perspective on fishing. Isn't it about spending time on the water, enjoying the freedom of fishing, having fun and learning a little something on each trip? Landing that fish was a real accomplishment, one that any angler could take pride in but jeeze louise, are we putting too fine a point on it? OK, I'm done. A handsome facsimile of this rant can be yours by calling........
  12. I initially liked the Normans but found that they would somehow work themselves off the lure, not sure how.
  13. Here's a website for you that covers AZ fishing pretty well: www.azbasszone.com
  14. I'm a lot more comfortable using a net and I think it's better for the fish. I have a standard net but will soon upgrade to a rubber model, much more tangle free.
  15. I'd avoid the old flatfish, if anyone still uses them. Especially the ones with four little trebles.
  16. About 2 feet of #30 braid does it for me.
  17. Perhaps he just burped it up.
  18. Caught two alligators in 2 years. Snagged one on a 1/4 oz ballhead jig, the other took a black senko and made a heckuva run before the line gave up.
  19. Thanks to you all, nice to be in a community as helpful as this one. Looking forward to trying out some new water.
  20. I got a surprise opportunity to fish Caddo Lake in Tx at the end of the month. I'm not familiar with this lake and wondered if anyone on this forum might have experience there? I'll be staying near Uncertain TX.
  21. Got into a panic, thought the 15,000 was how many bass you caught this year. Imagine my relief!
  22. Looks like a serious head-on collision to me. Shouldn't text while swimming.
  23. I believe the rod is a greater factor than the reel. Any reel is in the free-wheeling mode when cast so there's probably not a lot of difference between one reel and another, at least reels in the same price range. If you're getting 25 yards now that seems like enough distance for most any situation. Perhaps you might work on accuracy at this point. I think that would serve you better.
  24. Hmmmm........Maybe a little tuna oil!
