  1. yea that halo is some sweet looking flour ..... i will try this halo 15lb on my jig rod .... the guy at sportsmans said he is using it ..... he said it was good stuff .....
  2. i use a longer rod .... i have a 7ft6 st croix premiere flipping stick .... i feel i can move more line on a hook set with the longer stick ..... i like a heavy stick because i use a 1 oz weight ..... the bigger weight will give you a better feel of the bottom .... the heavy stick will get that rig out there .... this is just what works best for me ....imo ;D
  3. hey Dodge i was using 50lb power pro .... then i saw my brother inlaw killing me on the water ..... just for craps and giggles i grabbed some mono ( tryline xl ) .... my catch rate went up the day i switched ,,, now fishing is a war between me and the brother inlaw .... so i should tell you i fish mainly northern wisconsin lakes ,,, CRYSTAL CLEAR .... now i will use braid for flipping in the salad or frogging ,,, maybee deep football head jigging ..... but most other fishing i use a co poly ,,, cranking i use mono RED CAST 10lb ;D
  4. i have a calcutta 51 on my cranking stick .....
  5. i fish the same northern bass ..... id recomened the baby bass ( largee or smally ) ,,,, i use these as my main swimbait and have had great days // these are the matt-lures i rely on ... ohh theres the perch i used last season ////
  6. id say legend ..... i just love them ....

  8. i use a cardiff 301 ,,, holds plenty of line ... my main worry was being able to get 100 yards of 20lb line on .... the cardiff isnt that pricy and will hold up well ,,, the olny other options would be the okumas or the calcuttas ..... ohh abu makes a reel called the record that looks sweet .... i havent used the record tho ,,, just seen it here at a sportsmans ..... just match the reel to the lines you will be useing ,,,, 5-6 inch bait i used the 17-20lb p-line cxx moss green .... 6-and up id use a 25lb cxx .... ;D
  9. the XL_ULTRA shoule be fine they have a hev 7ft6 that would be killer for flipping /// just IMO ;D
  10. ig you want a cuttting edge stick AIRRUS is the way to go ;D
  11. not sure what reels have troube ..... but i have heard this about the kistler mag rods ... ive read more than a few posts ( and a few people that posted are taclke junkies ) ..... i know one guy had the problem ,, he e-mailed kistlers and Treys guys e-mailed him back advising him to try the duck tape ..... Not somthing you wanna hear when you just baught a new rod .... i have not heard this about the helium just the mag ts ..... again im not bashing just passing on what i hear ...
  12. if you want a trout profile swimbait ,,, IMO spend a few extra bucks and get a hud or a mattlure ..... im not 100 but i believe the 6inch mattlure trout is 12 bucks .... i use his baby bass series ,,, perch and baby bass .... but i also have a few 6inch perch that where made from a trout mold ..... these baits catch fish ..... matts an outstanding guy that makes a killer bait ;D
  13. great lookin stick ,,, enjoy and let us know how well it fishes ..... ive been reading about airrus rods for some time now ... im just waiting for that new pulsar rod to be ready ;D
  14. this really depeneds on what you want and need ... i know alotta tourney guys swear by kistlers and all .... but i hear the mags arent that great ,,, the reel seats are different than fugi ..... this may not seem like a big deal,,,, but i hear people are having to duck tape there blanks to get the reels on the rod tight ..... not bashing kistlers rods im sure they make a good product ,,, just wouldent be happy payin the cash for a rod then having to buy duck tape .... now the shimano rod does offer a over the counter exchange for a broken stick ,,,, and now that shimano baught loomis this makes me wonder who is making the shimano crucial rods ( i heard loomis ) ...... but the best advice i could give you would be to look at a arrius rod .... this guy has best rod in show at the i-cast more than a few times .... his rods dont cost that much eighter ,,,, id look at the ultra xl or the new pulsar rods just a few i deals ...... ;D i also just baught a stick from our very own reel mech ,,,, its outstanding ..... he makes the split grips and builds on croix blanks .... i have to tell ya to look at his work it is outstanding ;D
  15. in the past i used a 7ft premiere med fast with little trouble .... but i just baught a extreme 6ft6 med hev fast that has a softer tip than my st croix rods ,,, i feel this stick will be outstanding for spinner baits and lipless cranks .... i use a shimano calcutta 51 .... works great ....
  16. bolth rods you have up would be ok .... i was using the okuma big bait hev to toss the matt lures ,,, then i baught a st croix premiere 7ft6 flipping stick this is the rod i will use this year .... i just thought the okuma big bait was just a little bulky to be tossin a matt lure ..... the premiere works just fime
  17. i fish them in northern wisconsin ,,,, mainly smaller mattlures .... i have had good luck ...
  18. i use a polamar ,,, never had any troubles ..... i do hear the improved clench is the best knot for braid .... altho the polamar hasnt failed me yet ..... so ill stick with that ....
  19. well i know a avid and a stradic would be a great set up ,,,, but for that price i have a st croix legened elite and a stradic ... you can see pics of it over in the fishing flea market section of this fourm
  20. sorry guys i dont like switching hands after every cast ,,, i geuss im lazy ... lol ;D
  21. you can just click the DG rod works ( link) on reel mechs reply ;D
  22. he used a st croix blank and fugi reel seat and line guids
  23. hey Doug that show is called bass pros ,,,, i saw the same one .... as for jerk baits i just started using them last year ( and they arent a strength of mine eighter) ..... KVD makes it look so easy and i see why he catches so many bass with a jerk bait .... i geuss the whole casting or spinning thing would be personal prefrence .... i was thinking of tryin with a spinner this year just to see if i liked it better that way ..... also he was useing 8lb flour on spinning and 12lb flour on casting ..... maybee the smaller dia. of the 8lb gives that bait a better action ..... i dont know now ill have to try it .... yup you talked me into it Doug ,,,,, ;D
  24. thats the plan RedLine ;D.... i did get a chance to stop by the local corry ,,, just to toss a jig and see how she was ..... i wasnt really fishing or expecting to catch any ,,, we just had ice out last week .... the water here is real cold ..... anyway back to the rod ,,, wow she is a keeper .... i loved the feel of the rod .... she handled the jigs nicely ( 3 different jigs and sizes ) .... im more and more impressed with this rod .... ;D
  25. ok guys i just recived my rod by mail ..... i asked David to make me a jig rod ... we talked about a few options ,,, and the rod was in the works .... well today i was just sitting around the house when i hear the door bell ( yea the rod is here ) ..... first i wanna say David out did him self on this rod .... it looks great ,,, it feels great ,,, and i love that split cork .... so i have a few pics .... remember these pics dont do the rod justice .... i just want to let David ( reel mech ) know i am very happy with this rod .... im sure there will be more to come ..... ;D
