  1. i wouldnt say im in the shimano possie ,,, but i do think the new cu would be a better buy ..... i mean you know what you get wnen you buy a cu .... and the new ones are outta this world ,,,., just IMO
  2. well i found that pairing rod and reel isnt that hard ,,,but when done right can make a killer set up... now id say with the 251 to go with a stout 7ft med-hev .... i just think the 251 would match up better on a bigger rod .... id recomened a 7ft med-hev fast avid /// thats just imo ;D
  3. that is the sweetest lookin avid i have ever seen .... nice work man .... i bet if you sent that pic to croix theyd hire you .....
  4. i have used it in the past and really liked it .... but i had some trouble with break offs i also was usein 14lb .... so i asked around and found out they switched the fourilma .... and the new one was said to be not as strong as the old ... since then i switched to xt and really like xt .... but if i need that limp mono ill go red cast every time ,,, to me it is xl but red
  5. well ill say it.... more than likely the most solid reel ever made// i live in WI ... MUSKIE land and i know for a fact the majority of muskie anglers rely on calcuttas for tossin the bigg baits ... the calcutta is a work of art and not to mention almost never on sale ,,,well here anyway .... enjoy ,,, it is a sweet reel .... and you found your self a steal // ;D
  6. GO FOR IT >>> you wont be sorry // avids are sweet sticks /// ;D
  7. bizzle ,, i havent used any of there round reels ... so i cant help ya there ... but i do hear alotta guys in these parts use them , and seem to like them .... now the rods on the other hand are great i have 2 premieres 2 avids and 2 legends ..... LOVE EM ALL ... sure i like my legends more than my premieres but there is that price tag .... and my premieres really dont have any trouble doing there jobs eighter.... all around st croixs are nice sticks .... and i also wanted to mention the avid is a sweet rod,, yes it does have a bump in the cork ... still the rod is one of my favorits croix makes ;D hope this helps ya ...
  8. well heres what you have,,,, the 200/201 cu d will hold 110yds of 14lb test .... this reel is avibale in the 5.0:1 and the 7.0:1 retrives ... and weights 9.8 oz ..... now the 300 d will hold 190yds of 14lb ,,, 120yds of 20lb this reel comes with a 6.2:1 and weights 10.5 oz .... bolth look like good choices ..... ill be buyin that cu 300 .... i need a new swimbait reel and at this time that 300 fits the bill..... also if your tossin spooks you may want to go to braid .... it is a good top water line .... this way you could save your self the bucks ... just a thought
  9. hey tip if your tossin a spook you may want to get a bigger reel .... i like the chronarch reels but there is a new cu in the 200,201 size that may be a better way to get the line cap you need
  10. yea that avid is one sweet rod .... and imo they dont get much better .... i have 2 avids and 2 legends and a few premieres .... love them all // but imo,, warrenty and price the avid is a killer rod .... ;D
  11. tipp your not from wisconsin are you???? im from green bay ;D
  12. i like croix first but if i couldent find the rod i needed in croix ....id get a loomis or a shimano crucial
  13. yea i like a beefy co poly when tossin jigs .... i really like p-line cxx moss green in 15-20lb .... and if im fishin the heavy stuff will use a power-pro 50lb ... i noticed when jig fishing you really have to send that hook home ... and any lighter lines may have a little too much stretch ...
  14. yea i do some froggin,, and its a blast... the olny advice i can give you on a reel .... is get the fastest reel you can find there are a few options quantam burner, the new cu in the 7;0 and i believe abu has a new revo in the burner speeds .... this last season i used my chronarch 101 and it did the trick but i did loose a few fish .... i just think that burner reel will help you keep control of the the bass .... also the 2 biggest bass i caught last season came on my frog rod ;D
  15. laggy leaders are cool .... they allow you to fish a braid in any situation .... one time i wanted to toss a crank but i olny had a rod with braid ,,,i prefer a mono line due to the stretch .... i tied up a mono leader no problem .... also theres a flour leader if you are fishin crystal clear waters ..... there are 100s of reasons why you may want a leader or need one ,,, this is just another way to tweek yor tackle ;D
  16. POWER PRO ,,, thats my braid
  17. st croix are killer rods and if you dare to try one you will be supprised ;D
  18. laggy .. just think of it this way most monos have stretch and are fairly easy to cast due to lack of memory .... most flours are stiff and seem to have more memory ,, but there is a but ... most flours are almost invisiable underwater also have very little stretch ....most flours will sink rather fast making flour a great line for any deep water fishing presentations .... the flour lines have also been said to be great in clear water ... and have almost no stretch but a little /// now there is a draw back with flour .... theres that little shock factor when setting the hook ... if the line is put under too much shock when setting the hook it can snap ... so now we can look at co-poly a hybreed of mono and flour ... or a mono coated with flour ( p-line cxx) i prefer co-poly over all ... now that doesnt mean any one else should ,,, its a personal thing /// if i fish cranks i like mono or on my spinning gear i like mono but most other things i like co-poly .. and i do use flour when swimbaiting .... flour has its time to shine just like mono ,co-poly , and braid .... bottum line start buyin lines and playin with them ... its the olny way you can have a true under standing of what you need from your lines heres some hints for mono i like ,,,, tryline xl smooth,, xt and cajun RED CAST ... for co polys i like p-line cxx and cx moss green ... and for flours i like tripple fish ,,saugers (now i olny use flours at a 20lb rating plus) ohh braid theres olny one power pro. hope this helps and this is olny my opion ;D ohh i forgot monos will float as well as braids ( well the ones i use )...
  19. all i was sayin ,,,, i have no trouble with p-line cxx .... and i dont make it work it just works .... ok now i agree you can use any line you want , and maybee some wouldent use p-line .... but i just want to say p-line cxx works fine for top waters .... i have tryed useing flour and will say flour dosent work fine .... i under stand p line has a flour coating but it doesnt make my line sink ... ;D
  20. ive been using p-line cxx 15lb for my spooks .... no trouble in fact i really like the p-line cxx.... but i should also say i want to give power pro a shot also ... braids float nice
  21. another croix man here ... i really like my st croix med hev 7ft fast avid ... for a reel i use a chronarch 101 i really like the reel also ... i mainly use p-line cxx moss green 15lb .... i havent had any trouble with the p-line ,,, also i should say i havent had a break off yet eigther ... so this is the set-up i use and really prefer to use when fishing jigs .... so for you id suggest a med-hev 6ft6 0r 7ft fast premiere and a cardiff 200 you could get this set up for darn close to 200.00 bucks maybee under ... this set up would suit ya fine for jigs .... just my opinion .... ;D
  22. yup i have a few croix and plan to get a few more...love em ....
  23. man .. i like power pro ... id say you had knot failer .... now i use a polamar knot ... and i make sure i yank that knot down .... you have to set that knot ... before i trim the tag end... i always take my plyers and give that tag a hard yank or two just to set that polamar knot evenly .... also make sure the line is wet before tieing any braids ... and where you yanked the tag ,,be sure to clip that off .. dont get discuraged just tweek your knot and knot tieing .... ;D
  24. i joke hes one of the best metal gutarist to ever live and helped make on of the greatist metal bands ever ;D but if you listen to country you wouldnt know that
  25. olny a little gutarist for a little band named PANTERA ;D
