though i don't use braid,I hear ya. one of the few st. croixs i can't give up for dobyns is their moderate action rods for cranking. love the way they react.

he probably didn't even realize he was snagged. that happens a lot with carp. they won't fight until they realize it. i've had some nearly spooled encounters fishing for walleye and a carp nabs my jig in 34 degree water. epic battles.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything but I didn't say they were going to explode, meltdown, etc. the reels clearly didn't live up to the "hype" like its successors. they aren't bad reels and i didnt say they are. while others do like them and that's great, it's a fact they were a let down vs prior offerings.

I just received my reel yesterday. I can't fish with it due to the water being iced over here and sub 20 degree temps but I have tried 2 different lines on it and casted it in my yard which is very large. The reel is incredibly smooth out of the box. I've never used the dawia magforce 3 break system before but I already really enjoy it. In a nut shell, this reel can cast and it can cast things a good distance. It's very easy to adjust. the reel sits very low on the rod and is about the size of a 200 shimano. The only complaint I have about the reel is how low it sits. I'm very accustomed to 50 size shimano reels so i naturally palm the reel and have my middle finger over the top of the reel. You can't really do that as your finger will get the nut that attaches to the level wind. not a huge deal and i'll take that con over it's many pros so far. As far as the line digging into the lip under the t wing, the line doesn't make any contact with that part of the reel at all when it's on the rod and the line is going through the guides. I put tape there just to find out. It does make contact with it though when you are spooling line from the floor up to the reel if you don't hold the line out. that's where i'm assuming the grooving issue comes from. the reel though is incredibly comfortable to palm and does fit perfectly in my hands when chucking and winding baits. almost forgot...the handle could use an extra bearing in each knob. it still feels smooth as is but you will know what i mean when you get it. I don't like this reel for pitching. It can pitch a bait like a dream and the t wing makes pitching incredibly easy and effortless but I just prefer the feel of the 50 size shimanos for that. others love this reel for it but i just personally don't. I will be using this reel for swim jigs/spinnerbaits. All in all i'm very happy thus far with just toying with it and i already ordered another one after I came inside yesterday . Not sure what I'll use it for yet but the reels way too good at this price not to find something to use it for.

the reel is extremely easy to service and for 70$ that is one heck of a deal for that reel. even if there are a few parts that need replacing it's pretty inexpensive. just make sure the spool isn't cracked and the worm gear is in good shape. if you don't like it i will gladly buy it.

i don't have any experience with that particular model but i did just purchase this : http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=1726658&type=product&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104793480%3Bcat104777280 almost 50% off and the bag is incredible. i'm not a fan of the wide tackle bags. this one is only a few inches on each side wider than a 3700 plano box and it fits 7 3700 full size boxes straight up and down and is incredibly easy to carry due to it being taller than wider.

What do you feel the reel excels at? pitching or casting /w constant retrieve? the reason i ask is because of the brake switch located directly below where I palm a reel. how does the reel cast light baits vs a 50 size shimano? light as in a 1/4oz swim jig /w trailer not shad rap/trick worm light. I've also read this reel is very comfortable to palm. what is the size in comparison to a 50 size reel or a 200?

Anybody have any experience with this reel? how does it compare to reels in the 200$ range? how does this reel compare to a lexa? i ask because they are currently in the same price range.

brand new under 125 would have to be curado 51e when they were discontinued and being sold at TW for 99$. such a steal.

The two I try to always have with me are the bottom hopper and subwoofer. they really hit the nail on the head /w that subwoofer

It's their new fluorocarbon that is "meant" for spinning reels. I don't think it goes above 12# but I haven't looked in a while. I'm sure if it's meant for spinning reels it would handle great on a casting reel /w no issues.

I've heard they are a very underrated reel. I assume you saw they are on sale at Cablea's for 109? I was there yesterday afternoon digging through the reels until i remembered they don't come in lefty .
