  1. I have finally spooled on some braid. I was wondering what knot to use for a TX rigged worm? I was thinking double palomar. I will be fishing it in grass. Thanks in advance!!
  2. The 310X is the lightest reel and I have one of these on my ultra light.... they are also on sale at Bass Pro.
  3. Bass Pro has Mitchell 308X on sale for $18.88. I have used this reel since 2001 and it will pull anything in that you are going to catch in a lake. I use mine for off shore and bass. It has all metal constuction where the Avcocet has graphite, although it does have more bearings. With the instant auto reverse the 308 has served me well. My son has an Avocet that has been a good reel too.
  4. I am very glad to see Walmart out of the fishing business. They never put much into it as afr as I have noticed. I used to travel all over the country and their fishing sections often didn't match the local area. Our local Walmart is horrible since becoming a supercenter. The small one in Belton, TX (the un-supercenter) had twice the inventory of fishing gear that the new one does and we are between two good lakes (less than 10 miles from Wallyworld). We used to have several tackle shops in our twn which have vanished. Shoot..... I am in Texas and our Wamart got rid of their guns??!!! I may try to fill a gap here! FLECHERO- lets do it! Belton needs us! GO BIG RED
  5. It was 75 today here. Worked in the yard then went fishing. Sweated while I fished. I'm sorry............ didn't catch anything though.
  6. HEY..... THAT IS MY WIFE!!!!
  7. Thanks for the input!! MARTY: Yeah, I am tying an improved clinch knot to the snap. I do not experience this problem with anything else I throw. I thought maybe it was something inherent with these baits. I had it happen on Strike Kings pure poison and the original chatterbait. I will try a palomar knot next time out and see if that helps. I was working them around hydrilla both times.
  8. I have been using chatterbaits with great success this year. But I seem to lose alot while casting or setting the hook. I am using 17# test line but have lost 4 in the past two trips. Any advice?
  9. I did very well with a chatterbait last weekend in 61 degree water in a power palnt lake in TX. I fished it with a fast retrieve and it worked when nothing else did. I used a crawdad color Strike King Pure Poison.
  10. I have caught tons of bass with pincers sticking out of their gullet. I have never seen a tail sticking out.
  11. When I was a young kid of about 12, we were fishing with live bait in an artificial only lake, the conservation officer pulled in his car, got out, picked up all of our equipment and without saying a word drove away. I learned my lesson. I haven't been checked for a license or anything in 20 years. I have fished in about 20 states as well.
  12. I know that Cabelas has a lot of Rapals that I use that they have exclusively these days. Ours in Buda, TX is awesome. I have not been to the BPS in San Antonio yet. Just last week, I returned an ambassaduer reel to Cabelas. I thought it was the one that I purchased in August but it turned out I returned one that I had for about 5 years (the model changed last year). I literally took it off of my rod in the parking lot, walked in, got a brand new replacement, and 10 minutes later I was heading to the lake no questions asked. they even put new line on it! That says something right there.
  13. Retired Army.... now running a virtual reality convoy simulator for soldiers. HOOAH!
  14. U haul will give you a good hitch for 129.00 installed here(in central TX). It is a class III receiver hitch. I bet they are the same price nation-wide. Just make sure the drop matches your trailer height. I pull with an F150 and my drop is 2 3/4 inch.
  15. 2006 Has been an awesome year for me. I finally bought an awesome boat in December 2005 after my retirement from the Army. My 14 y/o son and I have fished every weekend this year since March. We have caught hundreds of fish LM, SM, and whites and hybrids this year. I had the unique opurtunity of taking soldiers from Australia and England fishing as well. The stars lined up and we caught fish on each of those outing. We also started to fish a new lake (Stillhouse Hollow, as opposd to our home lake, Belton) nearby that has been producing both numbers and size. The good thing is that here in TX we will fish year round. I grew up on Long Island and loved to fish but hated the winter months. My goal for next year is to fish at least 1 time per week for the whole year. I am planning some trips in the coming year to Amistad, Fork (if the water ever comes up), and Fayette, as well as some coastal trip for reds. I am very excited about 2007. I feel some PB's coming!!!! I want a 10#'r this year!! I also started frequenting this website and have picked up some great tips.
  16. Bass XL..... look in the careers sections of state fish and wildlife departments and they will give you a good idea of what is required for each position. Matt fly... funny you should mention the TX PWD website. My son enquired to our local biologist for this region for a school project but never heard back from him. He also wanted to do his Eagle Scout project by planting native aquatic plants in Belton Lake. Our lake has no vegatation and he asked the question of why there wasn't any. Guess it was a hard question!!
  17. I can't re,member why I chose this one???
  18. My view is this: I work all week, my time is valuable. I will not wait for anyone, period. I spent 21 years in the army and nearly all of my friends are military. Theya can make it for work they can make it to fish! We always had a saying in the army "if you are 10 minutes early, you are late" Now, Flechero, you are my hero. I ahve wanted to do that so many times!!! I am sure I will tomorrow morning!! I usually fish with my 14 Y/O son, I have to wake him up like 300 times in the morning to go out on a Saturday, he eventually does, but it is hard.
  19. That picture of the ramp wouldn't happen to be Rough River in KY would it?
  20. Brian, Be careful and Godspeed. 5's and 25's. Shoot straight and shoot often~! Holler when you get back. I should still be running the VCCT.
  21. I have never fished for freshwater in Florida. I have fished in TX, MI, KY, WI, MS, NY CT, GA, KS, CA, TN, MI, OH, and LA. Maybe some more, can't remeber. I recently retired from the Army and chose to live in TX because of the fishing. With that said, my list for best fishing destinations is: Texas Minnesota (Mississippi River around Brainerd) Kentucky I lived in CA for a while and fished Castaic. Entirely different stlye for quality fish. I am sure that this would ahve been better if I really figured it out. That said I did live in LA so I'll take smaller fish not to live there agiain LOL.
  22. Man, I am glad that I don't have the big bass mind set. Sounds like a great way to miss a lot of good fishing to me.
  23. I read this article this week as well. Very good insight. I still got up at 5:30 this morning and went fishing. My question is this.... how many of you have a weather station at home and use it? I have been thinking of getting one. i am lucky, right now I get up and look out my bed room window at the lake and my neighbors flag pole. This gives me alot of info, but I don't always catch the fish!
  24. Match the hatch!!!! No wait call me and I will come help!!!!
