  1. Great info WRB and this is what I am trying to drill down on, West Wind on West facing points that pattern would have escaped me, green water with bait fish excellent those patterns are what I like to read about and try to key in on..
  2. My heaviest line is 14# which I don't like, its on an old setup that I only use for jig/frog fishing. I learned fishing finesses and at the time it wasn't a technique just they way I learned to catch bass so I prefer light tackle 6-10#.
  3. Most of us know how to take advantage of a pattern. From a biological standpoint when you found the pattern what makes most bass follow suite? I have thought about this question for a long time and what really interests me is why the bass want a certain cadence, or lure. I experience this every time I fish you start out a certain way with a certain lure and you figure out what the fish want, but why do they want it that way, environmental, sure but what dictates that, specifically for a number of fish? Lets take a small pond and its forage. No Shad No Minnows No Crawfish Bluegills,Bass, insects and frogs are the main forage. Bass instinctively know that something they have never seen before is prey. I started with a buzzbait and weeded out the super active fish, about 5-7 Bass Then threw a spinner bait, about 3-4 Bass Threw a Tube, 2 small bass Went with a crank bait and caught a fish almost every cast, 32+ This was in mid November, sadly the last time I really fished. The question is why, I tried the buzzbait slow, medium and fast, same with the spinner bait. The crankabit I started off slow to meduim and that's how they wanted it, but why? I know there are so many factors but from a biological standpoint I think I have an answer to this riddle and this is what I love about Bass fishing or I should say keeps me interested because its so dynamic and changes so rapidly that you need to keep planning and analyzing to catch fish consistently. My Bass brain is telling me it was easy to see, "sexy shad", loads of action, easy meal(little effort loads of calories) and just the right size. So when we find a pattern does anyone else really dig into the why and feel as though you might know what the Bass are thinking? I feel as if you decode a Bass on how they eat, when they eat and what they eat I know the pros can do it.. The Classic and some of the pros I read about mention, certain color, certain lures, certain cadence or you wouldn't get bit, now what would make a group of fish care so much about that during the classic, does anyone have an answer for that?
  4. Personally I like white with a leader, simply because I like to watch the line, I know of guys that fish the susky river which is gin clear and they use a florescent yellow, with leader material of course. For me white is still easy to see and isn't as stand out as a yellow..
  5. The river I fish has the same issues, I lost way to many in the cooler months, in the summer months not a huge deal because I go after them, however I experimented with many jig heads and my local bait shops sells some that are cheap and don't snag all that often. Round heads snag allot for me so I stay away from these, football head jigs didn't fair much better either and the head I found looks more like a bullet with a flat bottom.
  6. A 14.5" bass can eat a 6" Gizzard Shad which is much larger then that lure. I have caught numerous bass on lures as long and or longer then the bass them selves, point is try it and see if it works for you..
  7. Why no pond love? River especially in the summer months, Lakes in the cooler months and ponds when I want to be guaranteed to catch fish.
  8. Drop shot works wonders for bedding fish as its in the strike zone longer. I use lizards and jigs or whatever works lol LakeForkGuy has an awesome youtube video on bedding bass, he makes into a science almost.
  9. Good link but we block social media, so sadly this wont matter much to me until I get home and if you deal with IT like I do the last thing you want to do is be on your Tablet/PC/Smartphone to watch something when you have a big screen right there with surround sound...
  10. This is what I am talking about in the past it didn't much matter to me, but now especially with Major Fishing League and FLW I want the real time event.. Also here at work we block streaming media so the website is fairly useless for real time events and or at least the day of..
  11. So the schedule states ESPN2 but not till the 24th (typo?), do they not have real time on the Air of the Classic? I set my DVRs to record but cant recall the day/time?
  12. Yum dinger is a good substitution, my Son of 3 went fishing with me and I put on a Yum Dinger, I cast it and he reels it in, well he was watching me do something I and I look over and his rod is bent over. He had a spiderman rod/rell combo and it had a heck of a time reeling this fish in but the bass could have been on the line for at least 3 minutes and luckily I was using circle hooks and the fish hooked itself, but the point is the fish didn't let go so they liked what it had. I have used them as well with great success, however I still like the senkos better.
  13. Well I am in my 30s and work in IT so I don't need any help with electronics.. I just hope my lake isn't frozen..
  14. Last night I was fishing in a large pond, using a black buzz bait and hooked into a monster fish, I mean huge, 10+#s and when I brought the fish in it had completely swallowed my buzzbait it was in its stomach. I tried to remove it but couldn't a young child may have been my son comes over and rips the buzzbait out of the fish and I wake up, now tell me that's not an odd dream?? Man I am chopping at the bit to get out on the water and I hope this weekend is it, you know you have the fever when you dream about fishing..
  15. If the jerkbait is on KvD is going to be a tuff one to beat..
  16. Jig = Palomar knot = always
  17. Its wasteful plain and simple how can you be PRO environment and do this, nope I don't like it one bit.
  18. I use buzz baits from late spring to late November, I prefer black but will also use white if the fish want it, my favorite buzzbait is one that has single copper blade and is black and makes lots of bubbles and squeaking noise. The blades has holes in it making more bubbles and can reel it in slower. I cant say the brand because they are 15 years and cant recall. Key items with a buzzbait the ability for it to rise with a few turns and to be burned and or slow rolled, has holes in the blade(s) and it needs to squeak and should be black lol.. Certain bodies of water I fish its the only top water bait I through and it is my one of my favorite topwater baits as well, fish typically don't miss this bait and when they do toss it right back. Works on LMB as well as smallies, it can be very productive if the fish are in the mood, I like to use it first to weed out aggressive fish and from there go down to maybe a pop-r, then something underwater. Give the buzzbait a try its a fish catcher.
  19. While they expect a 100% survival rate I am not a biologist but in my mind that is lots of stress, but to expect 100% hopefully means they know what they are doing which from the article it does sound like they do.
  20. Funny you mention this as my wife and I were in the same boat. We had a Honda and it didn’t meet our family needs, so we went looking for a MiniVan, Honda has one of the better MiniVans, however we went with Toyota and so far we are very pleased, but in many ways this boiled down to what I could fit in and I couldn’t fit in the Honda.. Back to the point, my wife and were very informed and brand only went so far, it boiled down to our needs and we made the right choice.
  21. In today’s age of information Brand loyalty is the best product that you can afford, however if you stick with a brand based on your loyalty, good for you and the company. To me it’s all about informed customers which is what you should be with any purchase, unless money doesn’t matter. In my opinion people need to take emotion out of the equation when you make a purchase and replace this with research and knowledge of said purchase. When it comes to lures, I buy what works and see if I can find it cheaper, rarely do I buy expensive lures I don’t see the value in them. Rods and reels I have experimented here and there and like Shimano and St Croix, but I also like Abu, also tired Lews and a few other brands but I use Shimano and St Croix as my template, my starting point and work out from there. In some respects Brand loyalty would make purchases easier and quicker but that takes the fun out of it for me, I like the hunt for the best purchase I can afford.
  22. Berkley Gulp Hellgramite Terminator Buzzbait Worlds Fair Knot
  23. Before everyone jumps on the what it will do bandwagon, lets see how it performs in the hands of pros first, just the like the A rig that was "supposed" to bring the winners this might hold the same weight.
  24. I thought about this idea when I purchased my first jointed bait, I was just a kid then and life took me another direction so I never put idea to paper.. This school of thought can change many baits we use today, I don't think connectivity will be an issue just take the concept of the latch for a vehicle and apply similar technologies to a bait and it wont break..
