  1. That was the way I was taught also, and it works very well.
  2. I fish a lot of streams so laydowns, boulders, and current breaks.
  3. This is what I use. It's like $35, comes with a charger, 8 amphours, and lasts me a long long time on a charge. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Rechargeable-Volt-Battery/700551.uts?productVariantId=1205523&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=40-32684739-2&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=00046500&rid=20
  4. Shuttle usually, or we have outfitters that will drive you to the put in and pick you up when you are done. I have put in and paddled up and fished back before though, and paddling up and back is the way to go. You don't want to paddle down and then back up because you might get too tired or it might get too late and you don't want to have to paddle back up in the dark.
  5. I fish an Ocean Kayak Trident 11T and I have a Prowler 11 for my wife. They don't get used nearly enough.

If be scared of ruining my device by getting it wet. The compatible devices typically aren't water friendly. Good concept on paper though although I would think it's hard to hold your device to view the sonar while fishing unless you have some sort of separate mount for it.
  7. Uni-to-uni works well also
  8. If you are talking Hunnewell Lake Conservation Area, I've never fished it but it looks like you have to use their boats (free-first come-first serve) and they don't have Smallies in there. http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=5302 Should be pretty well stocked though since there is a fish hatchery on premise.
  9. Break Out Another Thousand They don't call it a hole in the water that you throw money into for nothing...
  10. There's one episode where he takes them down to the Big-O in Florida and was using big shiners with balloons for floats and was catching some 10+ lbers. Pretty cool episode, to see the look on those little girls faces when he hoists those pigs up was priceless...
  11. When I went fishing with my daughter last summer we caught more fish on her Disney Princess rod than we did on either of the rods my wife and I was using. Found the limits to the Princess rod too as a 4lb cat doesn't mess around with the line that comes on them. About three turns and snap, away it went.
  12. Falcon BuCoo BCC-5-17 $109 great all around rod
  13. Depends on what lure you are using. If it's a reaction bait such as an A-rig or crank bait or spinner bait or topwater lure, straight braid should be fine. Think about it, the a-rig has huge visible wires and bass tear it up so they probably won't notice if it's tied on with braid. If you are finesse fishing such as a jig or shakey head, then probably a more clear line such as flouro should be used.
  14. Looks like they will catch a few fishermen... Doubt the fish will tell the difference.
  15. Missouri does http://mdc.mo.gov/fishing/places-fish/free-fishing-days
  16. Smallies in rivers like current. The ends of pools before riffles where the water starts moving faster, ambush points behind rocks or stumps in current, etc.
  17. I would look at the BPS Ascend FS12T. They are $549 new. That's about as good as you'll get new at that price. Used, you can find some good deals on Craigslist for the ones named above.
  18. I've slipped on slick ricks while wade fishing for trout. First time I dint have a belt on and filled up my waders. That wasn't fun in 50 degree water.
  19. I have the Inno system on my Altima. Everyone says that the Yakima and Thule racks are the best, and their price shows too. The Inno rack was about half the cost of the others and it's worked perfectly for me for the last 3 years. I also have the Inno dual kayak carrier as I have two kayaks and I have a buddy that has one too so being able to haul two on my car was a necessity. I got mine from orsracksdirect.com and they are probably the cheapest I have found for all brands of racks. The Inno rack is a little noisy without the faring, so I did get one of those to go with it and it cut down on the wind noise considerably. The one thing other than price that sold me on the Inno rack was that it came with locks to secure it to the car, where the Thule and Yakima racks locks cost extra.
  20. They are on sale right now during the Spring Classic. $20 off normal price.
  21. My hand made jigs with real flat rubber skirts fall pretty slow.
  22. The Revolution is definitely not the replacement for the Pro Qualifier. It's a bigger reel and weighs about 2oz more than the PQ does and it only comes in two flavors, a 5.3:1 ratio and a 6.3:1 ratio. They finally have specs on their website. They say they are good for A-rigs, big swimbaits, and other situations where high capacity is needed. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Revolution-Low-Profile-Baitcast-Reel/product/1408230711552/
  23. They are all I use for wacky worming and I catch tons with them.
  24. Good luck on getting a 4lb stream smallie. Not many of them out there. Those are the big ones. My biggest so far is a 3lb 18" fish out of a small local river/stream.
