Swimbait Guide In North Ga?
So I've been thinking about a trip up to north ga for some swimbait bass southern trout eaters style and was wondering if any of you guys have any info on a reputable guide who is known for swimbaiting and catching nice bass doing it. I've already got mike bucca and randal Kirkpatrick. on my shortlist but any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Any Georgia Anglers?
Got out today for a little fishing mainly to test ot some of my new swimbaits. Didn't catch any but had a magnum sized spot follow a 8" glide to the boat but didn't commit. and had two hits on a 8" rising son tophook but lost the first fish and didn't connect on the 2nd fish. so ready for the water temps to come up to 50-55 so they'll get a little more active

Swimbait Question
I have a long list of baits i throw but they may not be right for you. Most bigger swimbaits require a heavy rod capable of handling up to 5oz for most smaller 6-7" baits also a 300 sized casting reel to hold enough line to effecively fish the bait. my suggestion for lures would be 6-7" triple trout used for when yould normally fish crankbaits or rattle baits. a glide like the savage gear glide swimmer or river to sea s waver when youd fish a jerkbait or fluke. a mattlures hard gill or g2 shellcracker by blackdog baits when the forage is mainly panfish. ahudd or similar jig hook soft bait when you'd fish a jig or texas rig. be warned though the swimbait world is addicting. also 2 lb fish also will eat these baits from time to time but the smaller bites will decrease some. Its not for everyone. most people see the pics of big fish and want the same results but you dont see the countless fishless hours of chucking those big baits or the frustating followers that dont commit. My advice get a few baits to cover the water column and stick to those for awhile to make sure u like it before you jump head first in and spend a lot of money on something u end up not liking

First Fish Finder
what resovoir are you fishing? If its a smaller lake (less than 35 acres) you may not have shad or other schooling forage. probably mostly minnows and bream are what bass are eating. the minnows tend to form small schools but rarely leave grass or other cover which protects them. bream school but tend to form loose school which will be small arches distributed across your screen. schooling bait like shad or herring will appear as a dark cloud over the bottom.

Any Georgia Anglers?
hey man welcome to the forums. west point, while its pretty big its not overly hard to navigate. we don't have big waves like lanier nor the boat traffic. it does get busy during the warmer months but not too bad. I live on the lake and its really productive for bass from late february to november. its not overly grassy or anything but it does have some vegetation. its got a lot of rock and structure that is prevalent but also has a good shallow bite around docks and blowdowns. last year was the first year we've had full pool into late summer and fall and it fished much better this year than years past. ill send you a pm with more specifics on the lake an my number. maybe we can link up and bust em during pre spawn and spawn this year.

Favorite Types Of Fishing
My biggest rush comes from big baits. Throwin 8" glides or topwaters and seeing big bass come up from underneath it. seeing that big shadow underneath my bait. watching it stalk it then the massive strike. my second favorite is flipping and pitching. drag locked down rippin lips! You really feel the power of those fish. Following that its froggin in the thick stuff

Big Swimbait
the 9" slammer flat out gets bit! 2Lbers to 7lbers hit mine regularly. the hudd 68 weedless is quickly be coming one of my favorite baits. i find myself throwing it when i used to throw a jig. they excell for me in cooler water temps fished SLOW. Although there is a lot of drama arounnd Mike Bucca and his company my 6" bullshads are a very good producer for me. i have yet to get bit on my 9" but i have confidence it will get bit.

Lure Prices Getting Silly
Bottom line is.... you buy what catches you fish. Whether its a 4 dollar rebel crank or 400 dollar handcrafted swimbait. if it catches you fish and you're happy with your catch results, what else really matters? I've been on both sides of this argument. a broke young fisherman who was fishing a 10" power worm until it was shorter than my hook . also I've had the disposable income to drop 500 bucks on custom hand crafted baits. Like speed said earlier, my fanily is fed clothed and happy first before i even consider buying any fishing gear. I've fished with guys who whooped my tail with a zara spook while I'm throwing a 316 wake jr. also I've stunned a guy with a 8" hudd while he threw a foot ball jig. To sum it up ... "Different Strokes For Different Folks"

Minor Details - Tell Your Winning Story
Once last summer came to mind. i was out fishing and the bite was tough. id tried it all swimbaits worms jigs cranks jigs everything. i had been throwing a rapala square bill when i finally got a strike well my front treble broke two prongs and the fish got off. i only had a size smaller treble to replace it with. so i put it on an noticed i tightened the wobble but added more body roll. two casts later i have fish on. the rest of the day i backtracked my spots and caught 13 fish on that crank. I'm positive it was the minor change in action that triggered those fish. Since that day i bought two more and did the hook change to them too. One is always tied to a squarebill rod now.

Hello From Missouri!
Welcome aboard. i know exactly what you mean with the jokes. on my home lake here in ga i get the what do you think you're gonna catch with that big ol thing? Its frustrating some times. i head up to lanier and feel right at home lots of big baiters there. And cabin fever is setting in across the country i think i can only stare at my baits for so long before i go crazy.
