I moved a couple weeks ago and now have the luxury of a 5-6 acre pond right across the street. I've been out twice now and haven't' caught anything to write home about but there are fish and they're healthy so that is very promising. I just have been zipping around a shallow crank to search the place out. So far a lot of dinks under 12". Here is one of the better ones.

The first fish is a pumpkinseed, not a bluegill. Neat looking fish regardless.

upgrade your trebles. I use a Dobyns 705cb glass and very seldom do I lose a fish. it happens from time to time but proper equipment will go a long way. if you don't prefer glass rods then try a moderate action cranking stick of your brand preference.

Depends on the bait. Dressed trebles create drag in the water. So it will change the action on some. Others it wont matter. What are you throwing that youre asking about?

I have a ton of their baits. the Vile Craw is an awesome product as are the Plasmas. I don't fish stick baits really so I haven't tried the exostix even though I have probably 8+ packages.

I use fluoro leaders now almost always for musky. they don't kink, and they allow better action. I really would rather not use any leader but I might as well use my wallet as a lure at that point.

unless you're fishing in large pike waters (upper Canada), most conventional bass rods will be fine for pike fishing. anything in the 7'-8' mh or h will suit fine for pike fishing.
