  1. I use a 6'8" MXF rod as well. Works like a charm for both hard and soft jerkbaits. The rod serves as a great popper or smaller spook rod for me too.
  2. I palm the reel but my pinky and ring finger rest on the black above the reel and I have my pointer holding the line. If it's a slow pick up and you feel the line tightening, set the hook. Or if it's an aggressive hit you'll feel it in the rod with your fingers, set the hook. If it gets yanked out of your hands, well you know it's a biggun!
  3. Awesome! Why can't I walk into anything like that?

    Way to go! Congrats!
  5. I use san diego jam knot with fluoro and usually have a minimal tag end. I don't think there are any knots that have no tag end.
  6. 1 setup is fine. I do the same thing. Punch season is done up by me but jigs are good year round.
  7. Thanks Dwight. Hope to have a bit more action next time around.
  8. Nice. Seen a couple on fleabay. Hope it produces a pig for you.
  9. X2 you'll love them. Mustad flipping hook is a good choice.
  10. Very cool. Could that perch be any more textbook perfect?! Great fish all around.
  11. Lol that's awesome. Swaver is a nice little bait huh? I got to try mine last weekend and it has great action for a small 6" bait. Got one in bluegill color. I only managed a small pike, no bass or massive carp. I plan on getting a couple more.
  12. 24" 7lbs. Caught in September of 2007
  13. Finally got around to slicing up what video I had of last weekend even worthy of posting. The air temp was 65-75 all weekend, with water temps in the mid 60's. The weeds in my lake had recessed dramatically since I was up last. Water was gin clear so conditions were really tough. I tried everything and only managed a few fish most of which were dinks. I got to try out the Spittin Wa frog which I commented on a thread in the tackle forum. It's a nice frog and great in the open water or sparse vegetation. I don't like it in thick veg as it flipped too much or got hung up under pads, it's not nearly as good as a Koppers or alike. The pike in the low res clip came off the Spittin Wa. The bass came off the Koppers. The last smaller pike I got was on a Siebert Outdoors swimjig in bluegill color with a hard candy Rage Craw trailer. The rest of the dinks I caught on the weekend were on various other lures. Saturday morning last weekend was opening season for duck hunting . There were 3 sets of hunters out on the portion of the lake I fish more than 75% of the time so I didn't get to hit those areas really hard. I probably would have had more fish had I been able to fish there. There were quite a bit of shots being fired mostly in the morning. Weather was really windy for the most part and a storm rolled in Saturday from 4pm to the early morning. Sundays conditions were calm bright bluebird skies. Every where on the lake I could see pretty much straight to the bottom. It was very tough overall but still better than a day in the office. Normally wouldn't bother posting results like this but I wanted to try out the new GoPro software. Here's a clip and a few pics. ***I accidentally dumped the high res file on the bigger pike shown. I'm an idiot. *** 3# 9oz My piece of heaven. (outside of duck season..lol)
  14. Are you closing the bail by hand and it's still binding up on the initial turn?
  15. Why exactly would you want a monstrous reel on for bass fishing lures that range in the 1/8th to 1oz range? Other than chucking big profile swimbaits? But a John mentioned, there are different sizes of low profile reels out there already.
  16. lol we shall see brother. I gotta find more time to get out and fish first. Last weekend I threw some big swimbaits but no interests other than Pike and little ones at that. Duck season opener cramped my style a bit.
  17. I had my motorcycle fix in my early 20's. I had a few close calls and that was the end. I know a handful of guys my age now dead because they were either reckless riders or were unfortunate to reckless drivers. It is much too dangerous for my liking around our parts for motorcycle riding now. Slonezp, that's a brutal thing to have witnessed. The light at Iriving/Barrington road early this spring I saw some guy on a harley who collided with a car. He was laying on the pavement lifeless, no ambulances yet but a good crowd standing around. Not the same incident by chance is it?
  18. Solid chunks man. Nice work.
  19. x2 on this. He nailed it.
  20. I didn't catch it or affiliated with the person. Just sharing but thanks for the congrats! Unless that was intended for Mr. Hottle up there showing off again.
  21. Another beauty Dwight. Would love to hook into some small jaws with you some day. You can definitely catch em.
  22. This is circulating a bit, but didn't see it here so thought I'd share it. Someone is eating reallllllllllllllllllll good.
  23. Looking for Slow Sink in male or female.
