Helix 5 Si Initial Review
I picked one up for my kayak not too long ago and have had it out a few times and i am amazed at what i can "see" I am still messing with the settings but it is really cool to see everything i have paddled over for the past few years and had no idea existed.

New Kayak Search
I had a commander and it is a great boat but if you are doing any type of technical river, it isn't great as it is not self draining. I actually just sold mine for that reason as i wanted a self draining boat.

New Kayak Search
you are going to have a tough time finding a boat that is both maneuverable for rivers and paddles long distances well as usually those boats have different hull characteristics. The coosa is an outstanding river boat but for reservoirs or longer distances it is not a great boat as it likes to get pushed around by wind and is not that fast. When i had mine i picked up another boat for flatwater fishing. I have not paddled a ride 115 but it has gotten great reviews for both a river boat and a lake boat. I have paddled a cuda 12 quite a bit and it is also a good all around boat for rivers and lakes. Also on rivers if your boat is spinning around that could be because of a lot of different reasons and not just the boat as much of kayak fishing in rivers is about boat control. I prefer a more maneuverable boat in rivers as it allows me to make quick corrections and get into position more easily. Best advice would be to try and demo some boats that are in your list and see what you think. Also take into consideration that a higher seat position eliminates some of the need for standing. I can stand in my boat but i am usually just sitting in the raised seat as that does the job in most cases.

Just Starting To Fish Via Kayak, Have Some General Questions
I do both but it really depends on your kayak and technique. My past three kayaks have had a raised seat position so standing isn't as big of a deal but there are certain times where standing gives you a better presentation. When I am fly fishing i stand pretty much all the time but boat control becomes more of an issue as it doesn't take much wind to move a kayak around so i prefer to do that while anchored or at least wedged into some vegetation or other natural boat holding location. As far as rod length goes, it is personal preference. Most of my convo tonal rods are in the 7' range. I just don't like them much shorter but I know others who do. For my fly rods, they are all 8' and up. Generally speaking, kayak fishing doesn't require any different gear than any other type of watercraft.

Can I Use Silicone To Mount My Transducer In My Kayak?
yeah sure it would work. pretty much anything that can fasten it to the hull will work but i think you would have a tough time getting silicone to not have any air bubbles.

No More Car Topping My Canoe

After Buying A Side Scan.. Do You Catch More Fish?
So far so good. I am obviously still trying to figure out what all i am looking at and making sure that my paddle stroke is as smooth as possible because any movement in the kayak impacts the picture. I plan on using it heavily this next week as i am heading to the OBX and doing some inshore fishing and it should help there for me to locate schools of baitfish, reds etc...

How Should I Mount My Ff On My Kayak?
just found a relatively flat spot on the bottom and made a little pancake of plumber's putty and then squished the transducer into it and then covered it up and gave it one more little press to make sure there were no air bubbles. i know a lot of people use duct seal too but they were out when i bought my stuff.

Led Lighting For Night Fishing From The Kayak
looks good. and an 18ah battery is pretty big. i just bought a 8ah for my new fish finder and i was surprised at how big that one was. I am really thinking of doing some lights on my kayak for night fishing but until i get a trailer i don't want to add more weight or hassle to the launching and loading/unloading process.

Is It Unusual To Catch A Lot Of Sm Bass?
on the smaller creeks/rivers around here i usually stop counting after 50 or so but they are generally smaller. On the larger rivers it is pretty common to have 50 fish days as well once you figure out where they are holding.

Ff Worth It For Shallow Water Lakes?
I fish a lot of lakes that are shallow and i had a basic fish finder, a piranhamax from a a few years ago and it helped locate some things i would have never found otherwise. I did just upgrade to a SI unit and after one use all i can say is that I wish i got it sooner. I am still a big time newbie on how it all works but so far I have already found some things that would have taken me a lot of paddling to find with my other fish finder.

How Should I Mount My Ff On My Kayak?
Before i got my kayak with an electronics pod I tried the arm and i hated it. It always seemed to move and i had to take it in and out and it would get hung up on grass and other stuff, not to mention the extra drag it created. I then went with the thru hull method and kicked myself for not doing it sooner. Sure i lost a little of the temperature readings but once i was on the water it was pretty close to a handheld thermometer i got to check the accuracy. I looked at a cellblock but it seems pretty pricey for what you get and it also adds a lot of weight to one side of the kayak. If it was me i would go thru hull with a ram mount for the fish finder itself in a place you can access but it isn;t in the way. I had mine on my right side on a track so it was out of the way but easily moved when needed.

Cardinals Caught Cheating?
except baseball has no cap...but for football or basketball that would be huge.

Cardinals Caught Cheating?
losign draft picks would hurt them because they always build through the draft. from what i have heard on sports radio it seems that it was a disgruntled former employee or something. Guess we will see what happens...i am not a fan of the cardinals but i don't hate them like I do the Mets or Nationals or Braves...I do despise cheating though and feel that all the teams who do it, in any sport, should be dealt with harshly.

Help Identifying. In A Noobie
they are one of my favorite fish to catch but unfortunately they are not something i can target as they are not super numerous in the areas i fish. They do put up a crazy fight and they are tough to get a solid hooks in because they are pretty much all bone in their mouth. I had one on today, nailed a chatterbait, but he got off at the kayak. Here is a bad picture of the last one i caught...

Lebron=Lechoke
This is quite a comical thread... The only team that a star took to the finals with less talent is Iverson taking the sixers to the finals in 2001. I also find it funny how people compare him to MJ, Kobe etc.. and act like they never had a bad game or quarter or lost a game. The facts are Lebron has as many game winners in the playoffs as MJ and more than Kobe (who is notoriously bad hitting the big shot). He absolutely carried a team that had no business of being in the finals to the finals. If either Kyrie or Love were available, the Cavs win that series. http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2015/6/17/8795727/lebron-james-stats-nba-finals-cavaliers-warriors-michael-jordan

I am hoping it helps me find them a little quicker and then catching them will be up to me. I just mounted a Helix 5 SI unit on my kayak and plan on it's maiden voyage tomorrow....

Transporting A Kayak?
For about $100 more, i would look for after market racks like yakima or thule. Much better quality in my opinion.
