  1. I try and pattern fish as much as possible but like others have already stated, it is more reading conditions and trying to locate fish and then find other areas that are similar. The lakes i fish are usually pretty small <150 acres so finding a pattern can be a lot like junk fishing i guess.
  2. Very nice fish. I am hoping to get out this week myself and catch a few PB if i can make it happen
  3. because the earth is flat....duh
  4. The whole catfish as scavenging bottom feeders is a myth. I have caught catfish on pretty much every bait and even on my fly rod while throwing poppers....they are a lot of fun to catch and you always think you have a big bass on till you feel them shake their head or roll then if you are like me, you are like d**n lol
  5. I go in spurts when fishing for largemouth on the fly rod with my largest going 21" and chunky. I almost exclusively go after smallmouth with the fly rod though. Flatwater fly fishing gets boring to me too quickly unless I am fishing a lilly pad field, nothing better and you can finesse your way through the pads and get some monster blowups. As far as tackle goes i have a sage 9' 7wt XP matched up with some sage reel and I have a Sage Bass II LM paired up with a Lamson Litespeed. Both are awesome rods. As far as flies go I like anything that is big, meaty and made with rabbit, besides your normal poppers, frogs etc... I also love targeting sunnies with my 3wt...total blast and non stop action on many occasions.
  6. i know i'd retire after his school year was over, my kids, kids, kids, kids would all be set up for life, take care of all my family and i'd go on one hell of a road trip while home schooling my son on the way.
  7. what type of trout?
  8. anything else really. topwater, jerk baits, any type of weightless plastic etc...I also fish a lot of areas that have a decent amount of grass and they grab more of that too.
  9. Crankbaits are the one bait i do use them actually, i just remove the split rings or just clip direct to the bait.
  10. I can tie a bait on about as fast as a snap so i never use them plus i feel like they change the action.
  11. it is all about your budget and space management in your kayak. I didn't start out with this many rods but i picked them over the years and it is a nice thing to have. Much easier to grab a different rod than cut and retie because that letdown is begging for a square bill
  12. Auto, i don't see the point of a manual. You rarely use a PFD on purpose so to me it makes no sense. If i was going to buy a manual i would probably just take my traditional one and leave it "accessible" but not wear it so i am meeting the requirements of my state.
  13. i take anywhere from 3-7 depending on the lake and my mood. I am more of a fan of grabbing a new rod with a different bait than tying something else on. My kayak also has plenty of space for them so that isn't an issue. I usually have 2 spinning rods-one weightless plastics and one smaller top waters or finesse baits 5 bait casters-one with a frog, one with a jig, one texas rig of some sort, crank bait that isn't a square bill and one for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits. All are MH except the frog rod which is a H but the others are each different in their characteristics so even though they say MH they all aren't the same. When i take fly rod only trips i usually take three of those
  14. does riding my bike to the local *** lake count? if so i did that with my rod taped to my top tube when i was probably 10-11
  15. Nice pickerel. I got into a few this weekend as well, just not that big but they were hungry and eating...
  16. you'll hear people argue that they have to have them but for me, I just haven't seen the need. Maybe if i fished rivers a lot i would fashion a slick way to fasten the rods down during dicey sections but even then, i still haven't had that issue. Have i lost a few rods, sure but not in a long long time. Once yo use comfortable with your kayak and abilities, losing a rod is pretty rare.
  17. Just paddle and fish and see what you want. I mean when you are out there think, man i would really like to have this here or that would come in handy. My most recent kayak purchase i didn't mount anything until i paddled it probably 10 times and this was probably my 7th boat or so. Id iso recommend the yak attack anchor trolley should you go that route. The pulleys and the lever lock are worth it all by itself. Also if you get a cart, get a good one and don't use scupper carts..... I am also not a fan of tying anything down as it can be a problem in a flipped kayak situation.
  18. It is one of the best ways to be patient on topwater hooksets. Wait til loo feel the fish and not hear or see it...my topwater hookup percentage is higher at night than during the day and i have zero hesitation of throwing treble hooked baits from my kayak any night i am out. I was actually just talking with a buddy of mine about night fishing yesterday and how i am looking forward to doing it even more this year than last.
  19. They usually have decent deals on terminal tackle so I may go in or might just do an online order and save the hassle.
  20. How are people buying baits for cheap and selling them for a profit a scam? Nobody is forcing anyone to sell them the baits. In the used market, it is worth what people are willing to pay. negotiation is also part of the equation. I mean is $50 a lowball offer, sure but i am sure he is thinking it will be denied and a counteroffer of something lower than $100 will be given. What the MSRP is of an item isn't that much of an issue or a concern to me when I am a buyer but that is where many sellers get into trouble.
  21. I use anywhere from a 4wt to the equivalent of a 10wt or so based on the flies and the cover i am fishing. As far as flies go, I use all different types depending on my mood but nothing beats fishing topwater in a lilly pad field.....
  22. Here's a shot from where i was standing at the Super Bowl Parade....
  23. Panoramic shot from the super bowl parade in Philly on this past Thursday.
  24. I am pretty sure @Darren. runs a trolling motor set up off to the side so maybe he can give some pointers.
  25. No luck involved with that win. Pedersen outcoached Belichek and Foles plaid amazingly well. The Eagles came out loose and ready to play and were in no way shape or form intimidated by the Patriots.
