  1. Thats only a thousand more than me .
  2. Culprits were real popular in the 80's with the Mart Twain Lake crowd . Numerous tournaments were won with them . I used them some but relied more on lizards and Jelly Worms .
  3. Add some weight and try it .
  4. Yep . I did not like deer hunting . Gave it a try and its just not my thing .
  5. My first time bass fishing from a boat was in a club tournament that I wanted to join . It sounded like fun and I loved fishing . The only thing that got hooked that day was me . I knew this was something I was going to do for as long as I was able . Next tourney I had a baitcasting outfit and some heavy lures because I couldnt cast light ones . LOL
  6. There just seems to be a lot of newer anglers posting lately that seem frustrated by not catching anything and they want to know what they are doing wrong . Thats a difficult question to answer . Like that old Indian on Josie Wells said "Endeavor to persevere" or " Keep on keepin on ".
  7. For all you new anglers who are struggling to catch fish . Just stick with it . If you have the enthusiasm to fish 8 hours trip after trip no matter the outcome you will gain the experience to become more successful . I bet every dedicated veteran bass angler on this site had that kind of stck-with-it-ness. That is all .
  8. Kind of like catching them at the mouth of creeks in the morning and the rear in the afternoon . Did the fish move or did the bite move ? I dont know why it happens , it just happens .
  9. Between thurs and Fri if I'm in a big boat or bank fishing I'd go thurs . If I was in a little aluminum boat and fishing the elec motor only lake I visit often Fri . I dont want to get caught in a thunderstorm and unable to make a hasty retreat .
  10. I dont have summer lures . I have situational lures . Shallow , deep , wood , grass , current ...Crankbaits , buzzbaits , worms usually get a lot of playing time just like they do in the spring and fall .
  11. I havent been throwing it much because of the algae . I wish I could throw it more , its my favorite lure to use .
  12. Hannibal Mo . It borders Central Illinois .
  13. Thats not always the case though , especially post spawn . I caught back to back 6 lbers on the same small stick up . .
  14. The Jimmy Houston school of spinnerbaiting . I do it like that most of the time too but still like to fish them deep at times
  15. I really dont know what you mean by a hole , but I usually fish the area more after I caught a bass .There can be a big bass nearby but probably not in the exact spot . Big bass will most likely be in the prime spot .
  16. I have a bunch of Rocket Shads too . I like them in heavy current like below a dam and deep water . I dont change hooks but do wrap wire around the shafts to keep them from coming off during a fight . That has happened too me two maybe three times while fighting good sized hybrids .
  17. Just a few years ago I was parked on my brothers land and wading the river . I didnt lock my vehicle up , even had the windows rolled down . Thieves got in there and stole a bunch of stuff .They left my work tools though .
  18. With July winding down I'm updating my years catch . With this heat I had to change my fishing . No more day trips for hours out on a lake . I have night fished twice , waded a rivar a couple of times and have been driving gravel roads , stopping at culverts , irrigation ditches and Mississippi river back water .Been catching them pretty good and getting some smallmouths .Beetle spins have been killing it and jig/grub combos too . The updated numbers are 463 bass caught 117 spinnerbait 97 toad 86 worm 66 crankbait 49 Beetlespin 39 grub 9 buzzbait
  19. The next tournament starts Thursday .I'm guessing practice is today and tuesday . For those guys who fished Sunday , they have to be exhausted . I have two contestants on my initial lineup who fished sunday but I dont know about that . How effective can they practice ? I think the guys who didnt fish on the weekend will be fresher and have an advantage .
  20. All depths . I even fish them out on deep points .
  21. I have at least one that slowly sinks . Some rise slowly and some suspend . The 8.5 and 10.5 have all risen but the deeper ones rise only slowly if at all . Were you able to get your bait back ?
  22. The yellow with black stripe .I bought Wal Mart out so had to get some white with the red dot . If the hooks get bent I toss them . They are cheap enough to not take chances with a weakened hook .
  23. What a healthy looking bass .
  24. I have rediscovered Beetle Spins during this heat wave , having caught 49 largemouths and smallmouths so far in the month of July . They are like M&M's to bass . They just cant leave them alone .
