Watching professional tournament anglers for the past few years I noticed they make a pitch , hop the lure a time or two , reel in and hit another spot .They get a lot of pitches in in a short amount of time , in high percentage spots. I work the cover way more thoroughly . Bounce that bait through as much as I can and even hop it after it has cleared visible cover . A lot of fish come after the lure has left the cover and I often work it all the way in .Its not unusual to catch a bass on the last hop right at the boat . How bout you guys ?

The first warm snap of three or four days of spring-like weather, crankbaits and jigs are my go to lures in northern Missouri .I really cant tell you the temp. I dont use flat ones , I use a wide wobbling Arbogast Mudbug fished agonizingly slow .Wiggle Warts are popular , I just always used the Mudbug ..

Failure is a big teacher . One of the reasons I prefer to fish by myself is failure doesnt deter me . I keep on plugging away . Fishing for several hours with little to no results then finishing with a flurry is very satisfying .

Yeah , its called a grub . I have texas rigged them and swam them through shallow cover with excellent success especially for river smallies .

When I speak of time on the water I'm talking going fishing and making a day out of it . Fish deep ,shallow , cold , warm... Thats how I learned where bass lurk and what lures will allow me fish to it effectively . Sure I watched all the old TV shows of Virgil Ward , Harold Ensly and others .Read Fishing Facts , In Fisherman , BASSMASTER cover to cover but theres no substitute for putting in the time and effort .Plus I was always an angler. I started as soon as I was able to hold a pole .

They are planning on fishing Monday with a shortened day , 2:00 I believe.

I've caught many smallmouth with a worm threaded on a hook while catfishing in a river . That is smallmouth habitat .

I have caught bass in a pond on cut shad . I imagine most of the time cut bait is used in areas not suitable for bass .

No longer available but the Bomber Prop A is by far my most successful prop bait . When they were discontinued and in the clearance bins I bought a lifetime supply . The largest six fish limit I ever caught was on one . Its a post spawn big fish slayer . Its simply a Long A Minnow with a prop on the tail .

When I'm pitching and want a slower fall I like an 8 inch jelly worm with a 1/8th or 3/16th ounce weight. Gives enough weight to pitch and a slow descent .
