  1. I use the diamond file on a Leatherman multi tool .
  2. Or action of the bait . I have switched lures that dive the same depth but have a different action and make a huge difference . Most of the time its too much action a , subtler lure might get choked ..
  3. My glasses came with extra magnetic sunglass lens .
  4. Maybe go to a three fish limit .
  5. I look for a good extended point or two . Try to get something going there .Plus go junk fishing around the best cover I can find . Cover and structure are what I seek out on every trip and every body of water .
  6. I like chartreuse , Fire tiger , white most of the time for 15 foot or more . Shallower a lot of shad , perch , crawfish , bluegill and chartreuse .
  7. If I had that kind of money I would consider sponsoring a young angler .
  8. Spinnerbaits seem to have taken less of a role than they once had , I'm using them more than ever .
  9. Scotts is going to be interesting because he is going to be focusing on Bass Open events and trying to reach the Elites . He had a good start with a 5th place finish in the opening event . He was 60th after the first day . You get a look at the life of a Bass Pro . This will not be a cake-walk , theres a lot of outstanding competition fishing the opens . Wouldnt a Youtube channel of a young angler trying to make it be good to watch ?
  10. I've experienced that . Lures made for panfish and the equipment used to cast them are not the best for bass .
  11. We are both in northern Missouri and yes , the small lake I frequent has been choked out with Chara algae .Chara is difficult to fish . Treble hook lures are out of the question except in deep water but with the chara everywhere , there just are not as many bass hanging out deep as there once was. I use spinnerbaits and buzzbaits around the edges . Texas rigs are difficult to fish because the chara has no root system so Texas rigs usually bring a wad of it back . I still use T-rigs in some of the laydowns but more than half the wood is choked out with the stuff . Stanley Ribbets do extremely well in it .The back of all major coves are a chore to reach. I seem to be the only boat who fights the stuff to get back there but it can be worth it . The fishing there can be really good . The lake fishes differently now , not worse just different . This happened to the lake before and the MDC introduced sterile Grass carp . That worked wonderfully. I dont know why they dont go that route again
  12. I avoid using Shad Raps , they cast like a potato chip . They catch fish but I usually go with something more streamlined like the Fat Rap . The Bad Shad suppose to cast well but I dont need another rattling bait at that depth . I wish Berkely would quit loading rattles in hollow plastic baits .
  13. I have caught a total of two bass on a drop shot and they came off a Kalins Western Weenie Worm . ?
  14. Spinnerbait. Bass are aggressive and hungry and spinnerbaits fish through wood cover the best . i'll usually retrieve it just deep enough that the blades are barely visible in the stained to muddy water around here . I almost always use willows . Colorados are not needed , bass will detect willows just fine .
  15. Wires , hooks and line are essential . If they could all be made invisible I would bet every cent I have that they would get more bites .
  16. This is just a single experience , so it doesnt prove anything but .. I was trying to cach a bass under a dock . I was pitching a plastic craw with mono in 12 or 15 lb test , dont remember and the bass just ignored it . I tied the bait on a spinning combo with light line and then the bass bit . What about this . If one could cast and retrieve anchor rope would they get many bites ? What about clothes line , para cord , 200 lb test , 100 lb test , 50 lb , 25 lb , 12 lb , 8 lb..? Where is the cut off when line diameter doesnt matter ?
  17. I dont know how much line I let out . I guess I'll have to go down to the basement pick up a rod and see . I'm back . 10 inches
  18. Theres been a couple of years Buzzbzits caught my biggest bass .
  19. I cant imagine what it would be like to lose a son or daughter . Its not suppose to be that way . I'm so sorry for your loss .
  20. I've been using Zoom Trick Worms more and more since my supply of 6 inch Jelly Worms is dwindling . June bug has been my mainstay since I ran out of Black Grape and Tequilla Sunrise jelly worms .
  21. Tight action crankbaits are best in cold water and wide action are best in warm water . In my experience this is not true .
  22. I've been burned by Clunn a few times and twice he didnt even bother to weigh in fish on the second day .
  23. My picks and the reason A Chris Johnson because he finished second here last year B John Crews finished 5th and did well for me on a river before C Clark Wendlandt is suppose to be an excellent sight fisherman D Shane Lineberger finished 23rd and 13th in the first two events last season, so I'm assuming hes a good shallow water spring angler E Taku Ito finished in the top 10 three out of four times in the Opens last year . Thats all I know about him .
  24. Legal limits were reduced.Bass tourneys could not allow anglers to have more fish in the live-well that were legally allowed . The first year I club fished the state of Missouri had a ten fish limit and that is what we went by . The next year the limit changed to six and so did we . I dont recall any negativity being said . We embraced it . The five fish limit is one under legal limits .If you have six fish in the live-well and one in your hand that is seven fish , one over the legal limit . Five fish keeps them out of legal trouble .
