  1. It might be time to try some night fishing .
  2. For baitcasting I hold the spool on a pencil between my knees . Spinning I lay the spool flat . No matter what , I always get twist with spinning reels . Afterwards I walk all the line out in the lawn then reel it in . The line snaking through the grass removes the twist .
  3. If youre letting it free fall and get a hit , dont forget to engage the reel before setting the hook .?
  4. I,ve been fishing since the 60's and never hooked myself then I've done it each of the last three years . Now I use grippers with treble hook baits .
  5. Most lures are meant to catch fisherman not fish .
  6. Motor Oil Jelly worms .I have no idea what color that is . It changes under water . It gets a lot of bites .
  7. I just spooled the new Lews up with some 12 lb Big Game and mounted it on a 7 foot mh rod . Tied on a 1/4 ounce jig . So as not to backlash on the first cast I went ahead and switched all the centrifugal brakes on , set the magnetic brakes at about 3/4 max and set the spool tension so that the lure fell slowly . . Stepped out of the back door and cast it out of the yard and into a neighbors tree . Thats enough casting for now .LOL
  8. My first baitcaster was a used ambassaduer 5000 mounted on a fiberglass rod . Maxmus rednekess has that reel now , or he may have sold it . That reel brought in plenty of big bass .
  9. I just started a thread about this with the Stanley Ribbet . I'll copy and paste it . This works . I've only been fishing the ribbit for about a month and been experimenting . Heres how to keep it from coming in upside down with an unweighted hook . When putting the hook back inside the frog rig it a little short instead of inserting the hook exactly where it lines up . Just a little bit short will cause a slight bow belly-down and that will cause it to come in correctly . If you rig it a little long it will bow belly up and will come in upside down every time.
  10. You do that with other plastics ?

  12. Same question different time of year . Late Sept early Oct .
  13. Not me . I throw spinnerbaits in spinnerbait conditions , crankbaits in....Soft plastics are a big part of my arsenal but so are other categories .
  14. Why? What is wrong with using a 1/4 ounce weight? Its on the bottom . I have limited exp with a DS so just trying to figure out what works .
  15. 7'0" med and med hvy rods will cover most everything . Thats pretty much all i use . Plus a 6'8" mh wormin rod . The only reason I use 6'8" rod is I like the feel of it but a 7 footer would be just as good or better.
  16. I use to have some green stuff like the CatCrap , they were demoing it at wal-mart .They put some on my glasses then held it over steam , no fogging .It worked . I used it up and havent bothered to buy any since ..
  17. Always on a jig , seldom on a spinnerbait . Buzzbaits I have been removing the skirt and gluing on swim baits .
  18. 15 Ram 4x4 . Its why none of my rods are over 7'0" they wont fit diagonally in the bed .
  19. I learned to worm and jig fish with fiberglass too . I still hold the rod in front of the reel with the line between my index finger and thumb . Its a habit to break thats hard and dont want to break it either.
  20. I've been using a KastKing Assassin for frogs . Its a 60 dollar reel but I got it for 45 . It has worked flawlessly but sounds a little funny . I dont know if the sound is normal for the reel or not but it doesnt impact the performance . Its kind of a hissing sound .
  21. Thanks a lot everyone I greatly appreciated the help .I selected the Lews Tournament MB .Got it for 45 dollars .
  22. I had a rod that was warped and it would not cast accurately . Also some lures are prone to fly off course .When I throw Stanley Ribbits they might go five foot one way then on the next cast the other way .
