  1. 30 foot deep in stained water might be to deep . I fish stained water all the time and that is deeper than where I catch fish .I catch them at 20 foot a lot .
  2. Choose crankbaits that dive a couple feet deeper than the bottom your fishing . Berkely Dredgers dive to their advertised depth with 12 lb test .
  3. I use the short shanks on lures like the old Rebel Deep Wee R's because they were made with the hook hangers to close together . Otherwise I just use stock hooks and replace them with inexpensive VMC's , or Mustad round bends if they become damaged .
  4. 22 foot Lowe deck boat , flat bottom jon , canoe , kayak and plastic bass boat . Theres not many waters around I cant get a craft in .
  5. I feel and "hear" a lot of hits where the bass reject the bait before I can hook it . Sometimes when in a school I'll get a bunch hits on the same cast . Theres noway of telling if the bass is going to spit it quickly or not . Only thing I can say is I have never hooked a bass after the lure gets blown out unless the fish gets foul hooked .
  6. I'm not following you . I dont think the OP was thinking about sight fishing or top water strikes , good point though , just how fast can a bass can reject a lure .
  7. I leave them alone . I have had no problem with stock hooks on modern crankbaits . Sure ,I could spend a bunch of money and get premiere hooks but I just dont have a problem with the hooks and I fish cranks a lot . Most of the old baits I switch hooks. O-rings the same way. No sense in changing them . I've never had one fail .
  8. If one feels a hit , sets the hook and the bass has done spit it , waiting longer isnt going to help .
  9. The light penetration might not reach 30 foot in water that stained . It will ten foot probably 20 . Yes , they might be deep . Get some fast falling bottom bouncers and try it .
  10. Sometimes a bass will hold it for ten seconds sometimes for a tenth of a second . Either way I'm setting the hook as soon as I detect it .
  11. Dane from hannibal missouri . Can you differentiate bass from other fish on a depth finder ?
  12. I have a pic of one that was a little shy of ten .I have caught a bigger one in an ox bow lake off the Mississippi . This was 38 years ago . Caught on Mississippi river backwater at my favorite beer drinking joint. Cheap De-liar scales had it a nine something .
  13. Its going to have to go in the it never happened category then .
  14. I enjoy every time i catch a dog fish . I will never have Double digit bass but i have a DD Bowfin .
  15. They stocked grass carp in a local lake and the big bass got rarer .The last couple of years they sprayed the grass and the big bass got skinny . I like grass carp a lot better than herbicides .
  16. Search this in Youtube.. " Most Insane Underwater Bass Fishing Footage Ever!! GoPro Footage of Giant Bass Eating Lures!
  17. I have seen those videos too . They opened my eyes . One of my favorite ways to fish is yoyoing lipless cranks in deep water . There are lots of times I feel or even hear the hit and miss the fish . I thought they were just bumping it closed mouth but now I think "after seeing the videos" that they are just faster than me .
  18. Yours has an eyelet at the bottom to add another hook . Have you had any success with it ? I just ordered 2 .
  19. Yep , Im bumpin a 12 year old post . Very seldom do you hear people pitching/flipping plastic worms these days . I do it all the time . Eight inch blue Jelly Worms accounted for most of my underhand fish this year . Who still uses worms as their number 1 pitching bait ?
  20. When I feel a bite I just sweep the rod . No crossing their eyes hook sets . I rarely use a trailer on spinnerbaits . Its a heavy cover lure . I just dont like the idea of the lure snagging up a few more times a day .
  21. The only time I have has been in the middle of the summer .
  22. LOL out of my price range .
  23. This is funny because just today I watched a YouTube video where David Fritz recommends Mono-filament. I guess he changed his mind .
  24. Yeah , it reads Poes .
