  1. It gives casting weight .It is faster to work . Bass hit on the drop and a fast drop is often better than a slow descent . Plus they get fished deep . I use a weight almost 100 per cent of the time .
  2. I troll crankbaits on mostly barren mud flats .I find where the biggest concentrations of fish are on the sonar at and troll that depth . I catch more channel cats than bass .Too me its more of a summer time thing .I quit trolling rip rap because i was constantly hung .
  3. Ive noticed a lot of the lures you use are ones I like too . Some of them are not that popular .
  4. I guess not . I require the blades on my baits to spin when falling.
  5. Illinois dept of Natural resources says Newton is one of the premier bass lakes in the midwest and it has an 18 inch minimum limit . http://www.ifishillinois.org/profiles/display_lake.php?waternum=00225
  6. I usually use them side by side . Like you I can tell more with the 2d because thats what I'm use to . But I compare the two and get more competent with the downscan on each outing . I was marking the heck out of shad and white bass two weeks back .
  7. L bought the lowrance Elite 5 with down scan and GPS . I couldnt be more happy with it . Its less than 200 dollars . II'm totally amazed that a unit this good can be bought at this price .
  8. Newton use to have an 18 inch length limit , does it still ?so I'm speculating that its being managed for big bass .
  9. As I understand it , floro doest snap back after it is stretched like mono .meaning once floro is stretched it is damaged line . Is this so ?
  10. Big Game for the price but clear blue florescent xl is the bees knees .Man, I would like to see Big Game come in blue florescent .
  11. That chartreuse bass pattern is my favorite .
  12. I dont have special fall colors .Sometimes I have to avoid bluegill because I cant see it due to the bright colored leaves in the background .I need something that stands out so I can judge distance .
  13. My two favorite colors are brown jig black trailer or vice versa .
  14. I bounced many Bagleys off of bridge piling and bring back the lip only .
  15. Losing a fish trying to flip it in the boat and losing a big fish because of a bent worm hook hurts too because they could have been prevented . Tough lessons to learn .
  16. I would like t see a shotgun start .
  17. I get a lot of backlashes too some days worse than others . Todays faster reels are great but I have to get use to them and get both the tension knobs and brakes set precisely . I use to fish nothing but Ambassaduer 4600 c's and they were the most backlash proof reels that I have used . I would show off in front of people who say they cant cast them because of backlashes .Setting the tension knob loosely with play in the spool , I would cast a lure as far as I could muster then set the rod and reel on the ground while the lure was still way up in the air , with no backlashes , ever.
  18. If you like the improved cinch , then why not start tying the Trilene knot . They are very similar and the Trilene like the palomar is a 100 per cent knot .
  19. My first club tournament I was confident going in and got skunked . Second tourney I was just as confident and won . So give them hell next time .
  20. Wait . no Beelte spin ? I thought all Bass fishermen cut their teeth on these things .
  21. Here in Northern Missouri White Bass - Striper Drum - White Perch Flathead - Johnny cat Green sunfish - Rock bass Bowfin- Dogfish -Grinnel
  22. I'll remember that tip with the tube bait .
  23. I'll wager that the other side of the pond has good fishing too . Sometimes its just poor timing .
  24. Then try to mimic an injured baitfish . Bass , like a lion on the Serengeti , will take an injured prey over a healthy one . That may be the reason that a pause or rod twitch often triggers a strike .
  25. Sometimes entire coves are "bubbling" with shad and if they are not jumping there are no bass after them . If they are just flicking , they are not under pressure .There might be an occasional bass bust them but I found them hard to catch .You see lots of them jumping excitedly , something is after them and the fishing can get very hot.Sometimes they are not visible then suddenly they are busting surface Many times I'm fishing and see a single baitfish jump . A big bass might not be chasing but is on the prowl and a startled baitfish quite often jumps. I have caught a lot of nice fish by casting at a single tiny minnow that is skedaddling . I have caught many bass , almost always small ones , by fishing pods of shad . I'll spot a pod , cast a plastic worm , grub...past the pod and reel it in slowly under it .
