  1. When pitching I use a minimum 1/4 oz weight. usually a 5/16th. Anything less than tha I struggle with. I pitch spinnerbaits and chatterbaits too.
  2. I have always thrown buzzbaits with mono .I felt they have a better than average hookup ratio than other top waters. The hard part is not to set the hook until the fish is felt. I run into toruble setting the hook to early.
  3. I've been contemplating that hat. The sun hat I wear now "Outdoor Research Sombriolet" is a good one until the wind blows the brim up.
  4. I dont know what it is about lakes close to me but they dont have normal grass. They get choked with chara algae and snot grass. A lot of people avoid it. I accept that I'm going to have to clean my baits often but there will be lots of fish in it. There is "always" something to cast at. Cuts, juts, lanes,,. I catch bass all day long in this aggravating stuff. I mostly fish spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, weightless worms, frogs, toads and various top waters. Getting the trolling motor stuck in it is a common setback. I have to oar out a lot.
  5. Depends on what water I'm fishing. A Texas rigged something , always Bladed jig Spinnerbait Buzzbait Crankbait

I went Thursday and caught between thirt to forty on a bladed jig, most of them over 14 inches. I used a Z-Man Goat as a trailer and cut off the flappers on the end of the bait. I was skipping it a lot under trees and did not want those flappers grabbing water as I'm not real good at skipping. Lost my third giant bass of the year. Skipped it under a willow , beautiful skip and she nailed it. Jumped and threw my lure. I'm batting .000 on big bass this year. Thats got to stop.
  7. Maybe it was the cheap line. I used Vicous and it was pretty stiff. I only used it one day then threw it away.

I've been using the Z-Man Evo which cost in between, at ten dollars. Been skipping it a lot. Havent tried a tungsten but I would think the smaller tungsten head would not skip as well. I might be wrong. I use them in wood by horizontally rigging a beaver style bait as a trailer . If retrieved carefully , it will go right over wood. The strikes when it clears the wood are thrilling.
  9. After decades of watching my line go slack when hitting bottom with jig or Texas rig fishing I tried floro. It does not go slack . Didnt like it at all. Now Im expeirmenting with it for other applications. Not sold on it yet. I suspect I'll stick with mono.
  10. In my expierence carp dont affect bass. I actually spooked a carp a couple weeks ago. It took off in a big cloud of mud , huge wake . I cast a bladed jig in the mud cloud and caught a bass. One of the biggest bass I ever caught was under several carp sucking on the surface.

  12. Texas rigged anything. When it comes to thick brush I try to go with a lighter weight than usual and be quick with the hookset. That being said, I still lose my share of bass in them.
  13. Never used the Auger Tail but I have a pack unopened.
  14. I get Old Hickory and other carbon steel knives at second hand stores for almost nothing. They are pretty inexpensive new. I have found other knives too, like a Japanese knife that is my favorite.
  15. I preferred black grape , my fishing pal used blueberry. There was no noticeable difference in production.
  16. I have caught thousands of bass on Jelly Worms. I bought them by packs of 100. Texas rigged them with an Eagle Claw 295JB 2.0 hooks. 5'6" pistol grip rod and 14lb Stren. Abu Garcia4600C . They still catch fish.
  17. I pulled the little jon boat in with a limit of under the slot bass and two little boys wanted to know how to catch some. I gave them some 1/8th oz jig heads and and a couple dozen half dingers and told them exactly where to use them at. I dont know if they caught any or not but they were ready to .

  19. The most important aspect about fishing spinnerbaits and most lures as far as that goes is at 12::55 of this video. Glenn is using a 3/4 oz lure, I prefer a 1/2 oz because it matches my equipment best.
  20. I hope bass fishing doesnt cause cancer . Theres a whole bunch of us stricken with it.
  21. I just put in a 10 hour day. It was cold, windy, the water muddy and I knocked the snot out of them. My back was aching, had to sit down often but my cast were pretty good. Did a lot of skipping which continues to improve. After having to miss almost an entire year, I've picked up where I left off.
  22. Not me, I'm in my prime.
  23. Floating minnow baits like the Bomber Model A, the Model A with a prop and buzzbaits.
  24. Because I become snagged 100 percent of the time , or get a piece of moss, leaf... hanging on , killing the action. I can cast all day at gnarly cover with a minimum of snags maybe zero.
  25. Here it is . Its a Long A Minnow with a tail prop.
