  1. As the worst frog fiherman in the world , I dont know where my rod is on the hookset, I just try to time it and sweep hard. Frogging is the only time I use braid . When I stick a fish , it stays stuck. I miss a lot though.
  2. I've been using some 10 inch Riverside ribbontail worms that are around 30 years old. Its my new favorite worm but when they are gone , they are gone. The worm bodies are not round , they are triangular. I use a small 3.0 hook and run it through the edge , not the middle. Hook up ratio has been phenomenal.
  3. A lot of people fishing the smaller lakes are fairly new to bass fishing and they have not yet learned the value of good underhand casting. They lob cast at everything and get hung in trees quite often. I was like that at first but I didnt leave lures hanging in trees unless it was way up there.
  4. Twice this past Monday , I saw line hanging from trees. I followed the line through the branches and got a perfectly good jig with trailer and frog in new condition. I dont understand why people dont retrieve their snagged lures either.
  5. Back to normal. It took almost a week to pass that thing.
  6. I dont even bother with crankbaits shore fishing a river.
  7. When the water looks like chocolate milk I fish shallow and close to cover. My top lure is a black spinnerbaiy with copper blades. Dont know why copper , it just works for me. A Strike king Midnight Special would be a solid choice with the added benefit of a rattle.
  8. I've been using 17lb test floro and lots of brakes. I'm at the intermediate stage of skipping. Lots of really good skips and lots of really bad ones.
  9. Texas wormin and jiggin its all I use.
  10. I melt the lead and reuse the hook.
  11. I'm actually new to a smart phone. Been using a flip up phone all this time . All I want is an app that will audibly warn me of an approaching storm. I'm out on the lake , I dont want to be taken by surprise , again.
  12. I choose cranks based on depth , cover...and past expierence. If one or two do not work I will do something else.
  13. I kept my frog hooks from worn out frogs thinking someday I'll find a use for them . I just dont see myself throwing an urchin soon.
  14. I ruptured mine bowling several years ago. I didnt want the popeye arm so opted for surgery. They reattached it with a titanium pin. Mine went well. Had to miss a few months fishing.
  15. Good idea.
  16. Dont just cast a lure out randomly and reel it in. Cast at everything and anything. If your fishing from a pond shore there is nothing to cast at then let the lure sink to the bottom . Explore the bottom .
  17. Saw it on a Youtube video. Thats ths the only way I fish them now. If the bait has flappers , I snip them off.
  18. Its two months away. Babys going to need new shoes.
  19. Champlain picks Walters Johnston Ito Kung Parks
  20. Back when pork frogs were plentiful and living rubber was the thing ,I usually fished a brown frog on a black jig or vice versa. Now with plastics and multi colored silcone skirts I usually go with a dark trailer and not worry about matching the jig.
  21. I must have passed it and had a good fishing trip Monday and a Cardioversion Tuesday.
  22. I contemplated that one but could only choose one. The Norman dives a couple feet deeper and might be better for the 10 foot range.
  23. Bomber model A
  24. I've been using a beaver or Z-Man GOAT rigged horizontally as a trailer. It will usually slide right over snags and not turnover.
  25. I made a post here about ten years ago on fuzzy plastic baits that I made. I used half a stick worm and threaded skirt material through it with a large sewing needle. I fished them on a jig head initially for river smallmouths. Those river smallies like lures with appendages. They worked just as well for reservoir largemouths and I even caught channel cats with it. I didnt invent the lure. The Dan Gapen Ugly Bug was being made back in the 1970's.
